I Received System to Become Dragonborn

Chapter 730 Cannons

The battle continued below, with the Elven warriors holding the advantage thanks to the Magical barrier, which allowed them to endure the fight better than the metal construct army.

However, they could sense that their advantage wouldn't last much longer. The Hexa Striders, soldiers created by Laston, were undoubtedly imbued with Magic woven into their very structure, making them more resilient against the Elves' attacks.

But even though they were stronger than the usual enemies the Elves faced, the Hexa Striders were still weaker than the battle-hardened warriors with years of experience and skill. One by one, the metal soldiers began to falter, then collapsed to the ground. They no longer moved—some had their limbs severed, while others fell when the Elves managed to strike their power cores, shutting them down for good.

After what felt like an eternity, the battle finally came to an end. The Hexa Striders that Laston had sent were all defeated, reduced to lifeless heaps of metal scattered across the battlefield.

The Elven warriors cheered, celebrating their hard-earned victory. However, their leader did not share in their triumph. His face remained hardened beneath his helmet as he gazed toward the horizon, as if he could already see another wave of enemies approaching.

Because the portal was still open.

"Tend to the wounded and rest for now, but don't let your guard down," the ground army's leader ordered.

Upon hearing his command, the warriors immediately set to work. Those with serious injuries went to the healers, while those with minor wounds simply drank potions, their injuries and fatigue vanishing almost instantly.

Inside the throne room, a Mage announced that the battle below had ended and that their army had emerged victorious. He delivered the news with a smile, but as he looked up, he saw that King Gulben's expression remained stern.

The Mage's smile instantly faded, realizing that his joy was misplaced. This was merely a small victory, but the war was far from over.

"Tell them they did a great job," King Gulben said.

"I will deliver the message, Your Majesty." The Mage wasted no time and immediately relayed the king's words to the Mage standing outside.

Silence reigned in the throne room. Despite their army's recent success, everyone was still consumed by a sense of dread.

The outside world had also fallen eerily quiet. No further enemy movement had been detected. Rather than easing King Gulben's tension, the stillness only made him more uneasy.

He ordered the warriors, archers, and Mages to recover while they still had the chance.

"How is the Magic barrier holding up?" King Gulben asked the Mage acting as his liaison. The Mage quickly relayed the question to those stationed in the chamber containing the barrier's orb.

"The princess is still channeling her Magic into it, while the other Mages are working to find a way to reinforce it," the Mage reported.

King Gulben nodded. Once more, his gaze drifted to the corner of the room, toward the section of the wall where he kept his tome.

In his mind, he now pondered whether he should use the Tome or summon Erend and Eccar to aid them.

It was a decision that had already begun to weigh on him because he knew that the time to choose was drawing near. And he would have to make that choice soon.

"They put up quite a fight, my lord," Dredge said.

Laston nodded, his expression remaining calm and untroubled. "Right. I knew they would hold out this long. I'm well aware of their strength."

"What should we do now? The Dragonborn still hasn't appeared."

"There's no need to rush. Let's attack them slowly, wear down their morale, and push them further into fear and exhaustion. I don't want this victory to be quick or easy," Laston said, making his intentions clear.

Dredge and Veyna exchanged glances. If this was what their lord desired, they had no room to question it.

"Send another wave. The Hexa Cannoneers," Laston ordered Dredge without even looking at him. "They seem confident in their Magic barrier. Let's take it down."

"Understood, my lord."

Dredge immediately began typing something on the screen attached to his wrist. A series of beeping sounds echoed, and within seconds, the portal on the ground widened even further.

The ground trembled as the portal widened and crackling with unstable power. From within the light, massive shadows emerged. The hulking figures stepping forward in unison, their metal limbs striking the earth with a weight that sent vibrations through the battlefield.

The Elves had fought tirelessly against the previous waves of enemies, their bodies just start recovering, and their minds still sharp with determination. But as the new enemies took form before them, a cold sinking dread spread among their ranks.@@novelbin@@

The Hexa Cannoneers towering over the battlefield and stood like mechanical giants, their four-legged frames bracing against the ground.

Their dark, armored plating shimmered with an eerie glow, intricate veins of power pulsing along their exoskeletons. Atop their reinforced bodies there were colossal cannons that start whirred to life, glowing with the ominous charge of energy waiting to be unleashed.

These were not foot soldiers anymire. These were war machines, built for destruction on an entirely different scale.

A murmur of disbelief rippled through the Elven ranks, quickly replaced by a heavy silence. Some tightened their grips on their weapons, their knuckles white, while others unconsciously took a step back, their instincts screaming at them to flee.

The battle had already been hard, but now… now it felt as though they were standing at the edge of their own demise.

"Now what is emerging…" one warrior whispered, eyes locked onto the towering machines.

"They've sent giants against us," another muttered with voice barely above a breath.

The leaders of the Elven forces clenched his jaw, forcing thenselves to focus even as the weight of despair loomed over them.

The leaders could feel the sheer, suffocating presence of these machines in the air.

Their power was overwhelming, and for the first time since the battle began, true fear settled into the hearts of the Elven warriors.

And then, with a deep mechanical growl, the Hexa Cannoneers took their first steps forward and their cannons beginning to hum with an ominous glow.

---

King Gulben also witnessed what had just emerged from the portal. The new creatures looked immensely powerful. They were slower than the foot soldiers, but the massive cannons mounted on their backs made it clear that they could unleash destruction on an entirely different scale.

"Send a message to the orb room! Tell them to prepare for a large-scale attack!" King Gulben commanded the Mage. Without hesitation, the Mage relayed the urgent message to those in the barrier's orb room.

---

In the orb's barrier room, Aurdis, who had finally felt a slight sense of relief since no attacks had struck the Magic barrier, immediately jumped to her feet upon hearing the message.

"WHAT? Another kind of enemy has appeared?" Aurdis exclaimed, her voice filled with frustration and concern.

"Yes, Princess," the mage responded.

Aurdis let out a long sigh before quickly returning to her position. She stretched out her hand toward the orb, sending another surge of energy into it.

"What's the status of the formation?" she asked.

"We have managed to complete half of it, Princess," replied the mage working on the formation.

"Finish it quickly!" Aurdis commanded.

A deafening boom echoed through the chamber, shaking the very walls. Aurdis and the other mages immediately widened their eyes, their bodies tensing at the sudden impact.

Outside, the Hexa Cannoneers had begun their assault. Their cannons roared as they unleashed powerful blasts, striking the Magic barrier with relentless force.

Each impact sent rippling waves of shimmering energy across its surface, distorting the air with flashes of vibrant color. The barrier trembled under the onslaught, its glow flickering as if struggling to hold against the sheer power of the attack.

Blinding flashes of light burst across the Elf Palce as the relentless assault from the Hexa Cannoneers crashed into the Magic barrier.

The sheer intensity of the attacks sent waves of rippling energy coursing through the shimmering dome, distorting the air and casting wild flickering shadows upon the ground.

The Elves stationed atop the walls and towers squinted, their vision nearly consumed by the chaotic brilliance, making it difficult to see beyond the glowing storm of Magical resistance.

Inside the barrier chamber, Aurdis gritted her teeth, her hands trembling as she channeled every ounce of her Magic into reinforcing the failing defense.

The power behind the enemy's cannons was immense — far greater than the attack they had encountered before.

Her breathing grew labored, a cold sweat forming on her brow as she struggled to maintain the protective shield.

The weight of the strain pressed down on her, and a sinking dread gnawed at her heart. The barrier wouldn't last much longer.

Just as her strength wavered, the heavy doors to the chamber swung open with a low creak. A familiar presence filled the room before she even turned to look.

Saeldir had arrived. His sharp gaze swept over the scene, immediately understanding the dire situation.

"Let me handle it, Aurdis."
