Chapter 4 - Twisted Shadow! Sacrifice to the Evil God
Chapter Four: Twisted Shadow! Sacrifice to the Evil God
Lu Yu turned around, but when he looked through the glass, he saw nothing but the dark night sky. There was nothing there.
Did I imagine it?
Or maybe it was just a bird?
But birds wouldn’t produce such rhythmic knocking sounds when hitting the glass.
Could something unclean have come knocking?
Various thoughts filled Lu Yu’s mind. If something supernatural had come, he might actually be… excited!
Yes, excited!
Thanks to the Monster Editing System, he could extract materials from any living being—provided they didn’t resist.
With materials, he could craft monsters one after another, gaining their innate abilities in the process.
Even a useless person could climb to the pinnacle of power with enough talents.
And Lu Yu never considered himself useless. In his previous life, though he was an orphan, he had built a fortune worth tens of millions through sheer ability.
Now, with the aid of a powerful system, he was determined to soar like a phoenix!
Crack! Crack! Crack!
As he pondered, strange noises echoed again. Strands of black hair slowly fell from the window, increasing in number.
“Is Sadako coming out? Did she ditch the TV and choose the window instead? Talk about taking a detour!”@@novelbin@@
Lu Yu joked, stepping back while commanding the Fear Balloon to remain still on the ceiling.
“Eee-eee!”
The Fear Balloon froze, its grotesque face reflecting confusion as if puzzled by its master’s order.
Still, it obediently floated in place. To avoid drifting aimlessly, it lifted its dangling yellow ribbon, wrapped it around the ceiling lamp, and tied a neat bow.
After securing itself, it looked proudly at Lu Yu, seemingly awaiting praise.
What a fool!
Lu Yu rolled his eyes, feeling his earlier tension dissolve. The eerie atmosphere had been completely ruined by the Fear Balloon’s antics.
At least show some respect to the long-haired ghost outside—it’s got its dignity too!
Bang!
A hand suddenly slammed against the glass.
And that was only the beginning.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
More hands appeared, pounding the window. Dark red blood oozed from between the fingers, streaking down the glass like sinister trails.
The “ghost” outside slowly moved downward, revealing its true form.
It had a human head with a man’s face, but its hair hung like drenched seaweed over its shoulders.
If that were all, it wouldn’t be too horrifying.
But its lower half was a grotesque mass of flesh, sprouting eight human-like arms that served as spidery legs, supporting its twisted frame against the wall.
“What the hell is that? A human-spider hybrid? That’s disgusting!”
Lu Yu grimaced, not out of fear but sheer revulsion at the abomination’s grotesque appearance.
The creature was like a spider wrapped in human skin—utterly nauseating.
“Creee… creee…”
The spider-like monster tilted its head, its pitch-black eyes peering through the glass at Lu Yu. Its insectoid mouthparts twisted open as it rasped:
“Was it you spying on our Spider God’s sacred ritual, you lowly, wretched being?”
“Ritual? Wretched being? Are you a follower of an evil god?”
Realization dawned on Lu Yu. The thing before him wasn’t a ghost or demon as he’d imagined—it was one of those evil god worshippers he’d seen earlier.
He hadn’t expected them to be so vigilant and track him down so quickly.
This monster was clearly twisted by the evil god’s power—a mere pawn, not even worthy of being called a true “follower.”
They had abandoned humanity—their dignity, emotions, and memories—becoming mindless slaves of their malevolent deity.
Lu Yu recalled some travelogues he had read, which contained records about evil god rituals. This monster was clearly a product of such dark ceremonies.
Judging by its level of mutation and mention of the Spider God, it was likely one step away from sprouting eight single eyes and becoming a full-fledged spider, weaving webs throughout the city to prey on humans.
“Evil god?”
The spider monster’s human face twisted with disdain as it spoke with fanatical reverence:
“No! His Eminence is no evil god! Atrach Nacya is a noble, benevolent deity, dwelling in the Realm of Dreams. He is merciful and loving, possessing the most beautiful form in existence! You lowly humans could never comprehend His greatness!
He weaves the bridge between dreams and reality. Once the bridge is complete, He will descend, and paradise will arrive!”
As its words grew more fervent, the monster’s face distorted further. Its facial flesh tore apart, and a single insect-like eye emerged grotesquely.
Fixing its gaze on Lu Yu, it let out a deep, menacing growl:
“I had planned to wait until tomorrow… but now that you’ve seen our ritual, you shall become the next offering to His Eminence!”
With those words, it raised two of its limb-like front arms and struck down violently!
What do you think?
