Chapter 218 Flora's Proposal
However, what Cassius could 100% verify the truth of was that Flora was not human. No human had fangs like hers, or bat wings, or the ability to hypnotically control people—each of which were abilities that she showed to him. From just this fact alone, he was able to put a certain amount of trust in what she said. Read latest stories on My Virtual Library Empire
But just in case, he kept his guard up.
One could never be too careful in this world—a world where anyone could be an Alien or even a woman/man in disguise!
But regardless of Cassius's suspicions, when Flora approached him and curtly bowed, he returned the gesture with a slight head nod. Getting down to the matter at hand, he coldly asked, "Why have you called me out here? I have many important matters I need to attend to."
"I'm sure you do," Flora giggled. She strode up to him and interlocked her arm with his. "Don't you wish to know more about Grace's current situation? My mother does not play around, you know?"
Cassius broke free from her soft, cushiony grasp. "I have no interest in playing this game with you," he scoffed. "Just tell me how to bring her back."@@novelbin@@
Of what Flora told him, she left out a few very important key details. One was that they were Succubi. Two was that their family was also working toward acquiring a cure for Grace. And three, Flora didn't state precisely how long Grace was to be kept under house arrest. For all he knew, their mother would lock Grace away past the three-month deadline, thus preventing him from having any hope of giving her the cure.
Flora had, of course, left out all of these details on purpose. How else would she have gotten him to stay hooked on the line she threw out?
If she were stronger than him, then everything would've been far simpler, but even with her Succubus Awakening, she still felt inferior.
When she looked at him, it was as if she was staring into a bottomless abyss...
Merely imagining his Essence was enough— Ahn~ —to make her feel weird…
She squirmed in place after being harshly rejected by her First Mark, seemingly obtaining a similar fetish as the Voidling Guild Leader—another batsh*t crazy lady.
Cassius's lips curled in disgust while looking back at her. 'Another one…?' He was beginning to believe that his luck with the ladies truly was the worst.
However, for Grace's sake, he had no choice but to entertain the antics of this extremely unusual girl. "Tell me," he said non-negotiably. "Where is Grace being held? And how strong are those in your family?"
Flora gazed into his striking blue eyes. Unable to hold back the laughter, she gracefully placed a hand over her mouth. "You're serious, aren't you? Haha~ You have a far better chance of winning the entire Yggdrasil Tournament than getting my elder sister away from Mother. At that point, you might as well become one of the Ancestors of the Ascension Tower! Pfft~"
Cassius blankly stared at the laughing girl as they boarded a train headed outside of Hoshito. They weren't heading anywhere in particular but decided the most isolated parts of a public train to be the most optimal place to talk.
He sat down first, with no one around him. Flora, interrupting this solitude, plopped her ample bottom on the seat right next to his. Her butt brushed up against his hand, forcing him to hold onto one of the hanging metal poles.
"I turn 18 years old in a few weeks, you know?"
Cassius turned his head in her direction. Her eyes sparkled with hope, a dreamy smile playing on her lips. He sighed, leaned closer, and said, "Listen, kid. I'm gonna be frank with you—I don't give a f*ck. I don't do minors. I'm not a soda machine."
Memphis was also a minor, but her case was different. He let her get close to him because she had no one else in her life following her father's death. And it wasn't like they had intercourse or anything of the sort, which was exactly what this fox-like girl sitting beside him wanted.
Flora's lips puckered. "Not even for little ol' me~?"
"Definitely not for you."
Oof!
Flora took critical damage, but this was not enough to keep her down. Thinking quickly, she said, "You have big dreams of saving my elder sister, don't you? Well, to do that, you need to get into Yggdrasil and participate in the Tournament of Yggdrasil. And you need to win."
"I know that already—"
"But do you know that the Tournament of Yggdrasil itself is open to all, but getting into Yggdrasil is virtually impossible unless you're a high-ranking faction on the 6th Floor of any Ascension Tower? And even then, those factions only receive a very small number of Yggdrasil tickets."
A frown formed on Cassius's covered handsome face. 'If what she says is true, then I'll need to rethink my plans,' he thought. 'Also, from the smug way she's talking, it's obvious that her family has one of the required tickets, which means…'
He assumed she was joking or exaggerating with what she said about Ancestors just a second ago, but that could very well be the truth. Just the Trial Floors of the Ascension Tower of Humanity and HELL already had S-Rank organisms residing within them. Moreover, merely the 1st Floor of HELL had Demon Kings an unknown ways into the SS-Rank.
As for the higher Floors, it was only natural to assume that the beings became progressively stronger the higher one ascended. Using this logic, if only factions on a 6th Floor could have a chance at entering Yggdrasil, then this cheeky girl's family—her mother, who was presumably a matriarch of sorts…
'Just how powerful is she…? More powerful than a 2nd Class Slayer?'
He wasn't positive if that were the case, but if Flora and Grace's mother were indeed at such an insurmountable level, then his hurdles… just multiplied…
To understand his unrest at this information, one would need to turn back the clock to just after Cassius returned from the Hunter's Forest in the Nightmarescape.
He managed to make it out of the Colosseum and into the Royal Palace with the rest of the survivors. In there, he was aggressively questioned by several ridiculously powerful entities who, according to Yuna, were 2nd Class Slayers. Above them, however, sat an even more stupidly broken being—King Mistalore.
What do you think?
