Chapter 359: Cassius and the Sword God
The Head Legioneer had his weapon at the ready, though he was trying to resolve things peacefully if at all possible. Fighting with an anomaly like the Prodigal Conqueror was something he very much didn't want to happen.
Cassius's expression frosted over, his eyes turning to the heavens above. "What I want is to get to Heaven—to reach the Heavenly Kingdom."
"The Heavenly Kingdom!?"
If he wished to enter the Heavenly Kingdom, then…
"Fine," said the Head Legioneer, looking over at the massive, cosmically glowing globe in the distance. "If you have a death wish, then feel free to head over to the Astral Cannon. There, you'll have to activate it with your Magical Energy. It'll take you where you want to go."
Cassius blinked, a bit surprised by the compliance of the seemingly headstrong Order Legioneer. "Thanks for the info. And as it turns out, I have to head over there for a different matter, so this works out perfectly."
A bit of pity welled up inside the eyes of the Legioneers as they watched the Prodigal Conqueror fly toward the Astral Globe.
"A genius like that dying so soon…" The Head Legioneer shook his head in disappointment. "It's a damn shame; especially when considering that he's part human as well. He would've made an excellent addition to our forces."
"HELL is becoming feistier as of late," he added. "And it's only because of that kid's efforts that we've obtained some respite recently."
Sighing, the Head Legioneer turned toward his subordinates. "ETA on the Ascension Nexus Event?"
The Legioneer who had lost his arm approached the Head Legioneer. Whispering in his ear, he said hoarsely, "It'll be within half a year Yggdrasil time. Possibly centuries for us."
"I see," said the Head Legioneer, acting indifferent to the passing of a mere few centuries. "Then the prophesied day nears."
Peering into the western side of the 6th Floor, he glimpsed a city spanning billions of miles. It floated millions of miles in the air by some magical means, possessing architecture that far outclassed the epitome of technology on Earth.
"Go and inform the Castellan of Green-Diamond City," commanded the Head Legioneer. "Have him send in the next batch of Order Recruits. We need to expand while we have the chance. The certain death of the Prodigal Conqueror will surely lead the Demon Kings right back to our door. We can't afford to lose any more bastions to their cruelty."
"Yes, sir!"
With that, the Legioneers dispersed. Most went toward the floating city, whereas the rest informed the concerned citizens of the resolution to the invasion problem.
The Legioneer who had lost his arm eventually recovered with the help of a top-tier magical elixir as well. This action was only made possible because Cassius extinguished the Azura Flames remotely, which greatly altered the opinions that the Order Legioneers had of him.
Arriving outside the Astral Globe, Cassius only just now obtained a true understanding of the sheer size of the cosmic construct. It was as if several thousand solar systems had been stacked together, making for both a surreal and otherworldly sight.
Yet, even with the monumental size of the construct, the thing that appeared largest in the vicinity had to be the presence of the man standing above it.
Like a god, he looked down at the limitless world below, seemingly searching for something.
"There you are," he muttered, a smile forming. "Come on up, young lad. We have much to discuss."
No matter how many times Cassius felt it, he wasn't sure he'd ever get used to the stifling pressure that the Sword God passively emitted. It was truly of an entirely different level from anything he had experienced thus far.
It was what Cassius imagined a genuine Godlike Rank being to be like.
FWIP!
Teleporting beside the Sword God, Cassius and he now stood face-to-face above a cosmically-enhanced solar flare. Yimin, Raijin, and the other two had been left behind, for Cassius feared they weren't robust enough to endure the searing heat rolling out in waves around the Astral Globe.
"What would you like to know first?" asked Cassius after sensing the Sword God's growing curiosity. "I can answer anything as long as it's not too personal. You have, after all, indirectly assisted me more than you'll ever know."
The Sword God's brows peaked. "Delve more into that for starters," he said. "I'm dying to know how a lower human managed to obtain something that I figured had been lost in the dredges of time."
In all honesty, he had left the Sword God's Manual on the Lower Floors not expecting anyone to actually be capable of practicing it. For he believed none to be mentally ready enough to endure even a thousandth of what he had endured.
And yet now stood this intriguing kiddo. One who appeared to be anything but normal.
Looking into the Sword God's childlike eyes brimming with curiosity, Cassius opened his mouth to speak. "I found your Manual in a random fortunate encounter on the 0th Floor of Humanity. Finding it to my liking, I practiced it day in and day out, eventually reaching a stage that I'd consider a bottleneck."
To your liking?? What sort of crazy person would find a masochistic technique like that to their liking!?
'Then again, I'm the same,' the Sword God voraciously smirked. 'We're two peas in the same pod. But wait… Did he say something about a bottleneck…? It can't be, can it?'
"...Exactly what stage have you reached in the Manual—"
"Nightmare Trainer."
Silence…
"Are you shitting me right now??"
Cassius stared at him as seriously as possible. "I am in fact not shitting you. The bottleneck I'm speaking of is the one that'll ascend me to a God Trainer."
"...You…" The way the Sword God looked at him drastically changed. "Just how old are you…?"
"A few hundred years old, I suppose," replied Cassius. "Maybe 20 or something in Yggdrasil time."
"20 years old…" The Sword God murmured in disbelief. "Just what have you endured in your life to be capable of achieving the Nightmare Rank at such a young age…?"
What do you think?
