Chapter 395: Water Dragon God, Mercphobia

After a two-hour flight.

Northern Continent, Port City Ermina.

From the dragon’s back, Wendy knelt and excitedly gazed at the distant shoreline.

“Brother Nate, I can already see land!”

In the distance, a port city came into view. Several towering windmills stood out above the rooftops.

“That’s Ermina,” Nate said.

Using his Six Eyes, he scanned the surroundings from afar, searching for any sign of the Water God Dragon. Thanks to his enhanced vision, he could see the entire city within a 10-kilometer radius.

Ermina resembled Hargeon, another bustling port with tens of thousands of residents. Yet, after an extensive scan, Nate found no notably powerful magical aura.

“Could it be that the White Magic has already drained the Water God Dragon’s power?” Nate wondered.

He vaguely recalled that the Water God Dragon’s human form was a young man. In the Hundred-Year Quest, this dragon had voluntarily struck a deal with the White Magic Cult, surrendering his power to the White Magic.

“The White Magic… There hasn’t been any recent news about that sect’s activities,” he mused, standing on the dragon’s back, lost in thought.

“Where was the Water God Dragon’s temple again?”

Just then, Carla crossed her arms. “Shouldn’t we head to the Magia Dragon Guild and meet up with Gildarts and the others?”

“No rush,” Nate replied with a smile. “The Water God Dragon is here in this city. Let’s capture him first and bring him along. We’ll need his help to find the other four Dragon Gods.”

Though Nate couldn’t recall the exact location of the temple, he was certain it was near the underwater nymph’s spring.

“No matter,” he decided. “If we just wait in the city, the Water God Dragon will show up eventually. First, let’s find an inn—no need to alarm anyone. We’ll also need to disguise ourselves.”

With a snap of his fingers, Nate altered his appearance, giving himself a completely ordinary face—perfect for blending into a crowd. He turned to Wendy and Carla.

“Need my help?”

Wendy blinked curiously. “Brother Nate, can you make me bigger?”

“Bigger how? Your age, or…” Nate trailed off, catching her meaning. He chuckled. “Well, growing older will take care of all that in time.”

“Requip Magic: Transformation!”

In an instant, Wendy and Carla’s appearances shifted. Both seemed to age about ten years, turning into elegant young women with striking figures.

“So heavy…” Carla muttered, glancing at her enhanced chest. Her face reddened. “Will I really grow like this?”

“What nonsense,” Nate said, rolling his eyes. “You’re still a cat, remember?”

Wendy awkwardly held her chest, feeling as though two watermelons were weighing her down.

“Lucy and the others deal with this every day? No wonder they’re always tired!”

Laughing, Nate dismissed the Sea King Dragon, Lasteigeeney. The trio then entered Ermina, doing their best to remain inconspicuous.

Hotel Journey

At the front desk, a middle-aged man in a black suit with a neatly groomed mustache greeted them politely.

“Welcome, travelers from afar. This is Hotel Journey, and I am the manager, Kashima.”

“How did you know we’re travelers?” asked Carla—now in her grown-up form.

Nate held his tongue but thought, If they’re not travelers, they’d be locals, wouldn’t they?

Kashima smiled. “This is a port city. We see plenty of visitors passing through. By the way, are you mages?”

“You can tell?” Wendy asked, surprised.

“You two are hopeless,” Nate sighed, facepalming. “You basically admitted it yourselves.”

“Two rooms, please.”

“Of course.”

Kashima retrieved two keys from a drawer and handed them over, adding an odd warning:

“When you enter your rooms, be sure to drink the welcome drinks on the table.”

“Why?” Carla frowned, suspicious.

Kashima’s smile turned ominous. “Without it, no human can survive in this city.”

As they headed upstairs, Carla muttered, “That’s creepy. That drink is definitely dangerous.”

Inside their room, the three found a bottle of magic potion on the table.

“This looks suspicious!” Carla picked up the bottle, then quickly put it back down. “Wendy, don’t drink it! If it’s poison, we could pass out and get sold as slaves!”

Spooked, Wendy looked to Nate for guidance.

“It’s good to be cautious,” Nate said with a reassuring smile. “But this potion lets you breathe underwater.”

“Huh?” Carla tilted her head. “Why would we need that?”

“Didn’t you notice the water plants and moss on the walls outside?” Nate pointed through the window at the street. “This city floods at high tide, completely submerging everything.”

Anyone asleep without the potion would likely drown.

“Of course, you don’t have to drink it,” Nate went on. “I can use magic to keep our room dry.”

He closed the window and turned back to the others.

“Come on, let’s explore while it’s still daytime.”

[Dragon Hunter], Game World

[System: The team led by “Mercphobia” has achieved the first kill of the 1-star BOSS, Cavern Dragon, in 5 minutes and 17 seconds!]

This battle took place in a cave within the mountains west of the capital. A young man and woman stood before the fading Cavern Dragon, watching as its body dissolved into particles of light. In its place remained a radiant orb of golden light.

“So this is the loot?” the young man said, stepping forward and grabbing the glowing orb.

A list of seven or eight materials appeared.

“Both real and fake…” the young man muttered, awestruck. “It feels like a game, but it doesn’t.”

For a game, it was incredibly realistic. Here, he could even use his own power—plus the Lightning Dragon Slayer Magic granted by the system.

“A mount dropped! This must be the second mount in the game, right?” the young woman exclaimed. “Aren’t you happy, Water God-sama?”

“Hmm… something feels off.”

The Water God Dragon, Mercphobia, pondered aloud:

“Whoever created this game is extraordinarily skilled. I suspect we’re in a parallel dimension, and the master of the Magic Net has turned this world into a stage for a game.”

He furrowed his brow, “To make it happen, they summoned ten thousand dragons from 400 years ago… to destroy this world!”
