Chapter 394: The Beginning of Five Dragon Gods…
“Does the Guild Master want me to bring people along?”
Considering it a trip to the Northern Continent, having a few companions wouldn’t be a bad idea.
“Mira, do you want to come?”
Nate casually asked the waitress.
Mira tilted her head, smiling. “Go ahead and have fun~ Oh~”
“All right then.”
Turning to the rest of the guild, Nate clapped his hands to get their attention.
“Everyone, listen up! I have an announcement to make.”
The tavern, though not crowded in the early morning, had about twenty or so members present.
After clearing his throat, Nate briefly explained the Hundred-Year Quest.
“So, who wants to join me?”
Everyone exchanged glances, hesitating.
Warren shook his head. “A Hundred-Year Quest… even Gildarts came back missing an arm and a leg. We’d just be dead weight.”
The others seemed to share the sentiment—none of them wanted to tag along.
“Come on, don’t leave me hanging here,” Nate thought to himself. “It’d be embarrassing if no one comes.”
Spotting Wendy in the corner, Nate gave her an encouraging look.
“Huh? Me?” Wendy blinked, startled.
Beside her, Grandeeney smiled gently. “Go on, Wendy. It would be a good experience for you.”
With Grandeeney’s support, Wendy mustered her courage, stood up, and said, “Brother Nate, I’ll go with you!”
“That’s a big help!” Nate said with a forced smile before asking again, “Anyone else?”
Still, no one volunteered.
Wakaba lit a cigarette and said wistfully, “Come back alive.”
Nate fell silent for a moment.
Turning to the Guild Master, Nate saw Makarov shrug helplessly.
“If you encounter danger, don’t hesitate to seek help from the Council,” Makarov said.
“You mean the Northern Continent’s branch of the Council, right?”
Nate nodded, then said, “All right, I’m off, Guild Master.”
He gestured for Wendy to follow, and the two left the guild together.
Wendy, looking a bit nervous—as if heading off on a school trip—spoke up hesitantly: “Brother Nate, I need to go back to the dorm to pack.”
“Pack? Pack what?”
“Clothes for changing… We’ll be gone for a long time, right?” Wendy asked innocently, blinking.
“I don’t need to pack anything,” Nate replied. “I can conjure whatever I need as I go.”
His Requip Space held a variety of clothes, camping gear, and other miscellaneous items, making extra preparations unnecessary.
“Oh… Then I’ll go wake Carla,” Wendy said.
“We’ll meet at South Gate Park.”
“Got it!” Wendy nodded happily and jogged off toward the dorms.
After just a few steps, she tripped and fell face-first onto the ground.
“Ouch…” Wendy groaned, rubbing her reddened knees before turning to give Nate a sheepish grin. Then she dashed off.
Nate couldn’t help but sigh. “Why does she keep tripping out of nowhere? Is that an inherent weakness of Dragon Slayers?”
“Be careful not to fall again,” he called after her, before heading to the commercial district to pick up some desserts from a bakery.
If they ended up camping outdoors, the sweets would be a nice treat for Wendy.
A short while later, they regrouped at South Gate Park.
More accurately, it was two people and one cat.
“Good morning, Carla,” Nate greeted the white cat.
Since learning transformation magic, Carla often appeared in her human form.
“Morning…” Carla yawned. “So, we’re heading to the Northern Continent? Are we taking a boat?”
“Boat or dragon—you choose.”
Nate chuckled. They weren’t in any particular rush.
Carla exchanged a glance with Wendy. “Dragon, then?”
“All right, dragon it is.”
Nate pondered which dragon to summon. He had several options now:
Emerald Dragon Zirconis
Sea King Dragon Lasteigeeney
Grass Dragon Medacolirus
Coal Dragon Brunfield
Even Acnologia (through reverse magic)
After some thought, he snapped his fingers and summoned Lasteigeeney.
Above the park, a massive golden magic circle appeared, and a blue dragon emerged from it.
“That’s Future Lucy’s dragon,” Wendy said in awe.
“Let’s go.” Nate grabbed Wendy and Carla by the hand, pulling them onto Lasteigeeney’s back.
“Head straight for the Northern Continent!” Nate commanded.
“Yes, Master.”
Lasteigeeney flapped its wings, soaring high into the sky and quickly disappearing into the clouds.
The citizens of Magnolia glanced up, now accustomed to the occasional appearance of dragons in their skies.
On the dragon’s back, Carla held down her skirt to prevent it from flying up.
“This is too fast!” she exclaimed, then scolded Wendy like a concerned mother: “Wendy, your skirt—it’s flying up!”
“Ahhh!!” Wendy quickly crouched down, grabbing the hem of her skirt as her face turned bright red.
“Be careful not to fall off,” Nate teased.
“How long will this take, Brother Nate?” Wendy asked, trembling. “Maybe we should’ve taken a boat after all.”
“Are you sure?” Nate asked with a smirk. “At your current strength, you’d get seasick like Natsu.”
“Then forget it!”
Wendy held onto her skirt with one hand and clung tightly to Nate with the other, terrified of falling.
Seeing this, Nate sat cross-legged and said, “Come closer. I’ll set up a magic shield to block the wind.”
“Oh, thank you!”
The two girls moved closer. With the wind shield in place, the harsh gusts disappeared, and they began to enjoy the thrill of high-speed flight.
…
Two hours later, in the Northern Continent, at the Magia Dragon Guild.
In front of the guild, Natsu was breathing fire to ignite a campfire.
Gildarts had caught another fish, and Happy was skillfully cleaning it—removing the guts and scales. The fresh fish was then skewered with iron rods and placed over the campfire to roast.
By the fire, Elefseria smiled cheerfully.
“Not bad, not bad at all. Natsu, your grilling skills are quite impressive, right, Happy?”
Happy rolled his eyes. “Why don’t you help out? Just sitting there waiting to eat is too much!”
“I’m already over a hundred years old!” Elefseria retorted, holding his staff without any intention of helping.
Truthfully, the Magia Dragon Guild hadn’t cooked food in countless years. Elefseria didn’t need to eat, as he could sustain himself solely on the magic in the atmosphere.
“Heh heh, so can you tell me more about the details of the Hundred-Year Quest now?”
Natsu grinned, sitting cross-legged by the fire. “Since Nate accepted it, I can join too!”
“Hmm… Well, since we’re waiting for Nate, I suppose I can tell you now.”
Elefseria nodded, gazing at the sizzling, oil-dripping fish as he began to share information about the Five Dragon Gods.
“It all began four hundred years ago. Dragons from the Eastern Continent and the Western Continent clashed in a war of ideologies. That war came to be known as the Dragon King Festival!”
What do you think?
