Khalifa: Queen in the Apocalypse

Chapter 177: Grenade

It took nearly an hour to clear out the zombies in the park and, eventually, the mobs thinned out.

Mira was now within the safety of the soldiers’ area, believing she deserved a good rest while many people were still fighting and clearing out the enemies.

She slowly went closer to Aubrey, looking extremely melancholic. Closely next to her was Ken, and she chatted next to him.

She was very wistful and was not speaking too loudly, but it was enough for Aubrey to hear it loud and clear.

"Sigh, we should really get back out there…" she said, her meek voice making Ken’s heart tingle.

Ken shook his head, "I’ll work for the both of us. You deserve a good rest."

She looked at him warmly, touched, before looking wistfully in a direction."I really envy Khalifa, to be so well taken care of by her men," she said with a smile, "Especially the professor, he willingly steps aside to give her to other men, just so she can be happy.

"Very envious."

Ken looked startled, "I can do that for you!!"

He was so smitten that he didn’t even notice how the topic shifted from fighting to building a harem…

Mira, though, just smiled at him beautifully, making him even more smitten. "Thank you! You’re so kind."

"Hehe."

They chatted about a few more things while Aubrey just stood there, frozen. She seemed to be watching the remaining mobs cleared by the soldiers and Khalifa’s team.

However, if one looked closely, one would be able to see how her body tilted just slightly in Mira’s direction.

Mira naturally saw this of course, and she smirked.

It was around this time that Mira took out a ball-like green thing from her pocket.

"I don’t know what to do with this grenade… should I give it back?"

"A g-grenade?" Ken exclaimed, but he had enough tact to lower his voice even before he uttered anything.

Mira nodded, her peripheral vision focusing on the other woman in earshot. "So, what do you think?"

Ken was taken aback at first, but shook his head after a thought. "It’s good to keep it to keep yourself safe…"

"Hm, I think so too," Mira said, but as they gestured to walk somewhere, Mira lost her footing and fell down, the grenade conveniently rolling next to Aubrey’s feet.

"Mira!" Ken yelled, quickly realizing she had lost consciousness. "Oh no! Don’t worry, I’ll get you a doctor!"

He immediately lifted the girl and ran to the safety of the cars, forgetting the little ball that rolled away.

Some time later, they got to the final leg of the mob.

"Are you sure you’re alright, Mira?" Ken asked, patting her, and she meekly sat up.

She shook her head, "I’m fine… I want to see what’s going on outside," she said, and Ken’s heart pounded louder.

His Mira was so amazing. She was obviously suffering but she trudged on!

What he didn’t know was that Mira had grown impatient as she hadn’t heard of any explosion or any news of Khalifa’s suffering or, ideally, her death.

When she got out the mobs had already thinned to the point that they could see the edge.

Mira’s eyes perused the scene and found Aubrey, who was deep in the ’safe area’ some meters away in the safety of the wall of fighting soldiers and civilians. She was frozen and looking very conflicted.

"Weakling," she mumbled under her breath before she went to ’join the fight’ so to speak.

She joined in a way that she hit some zombies, albeit it was Ken who was doing 99% of the work.

After she got tired—understandable as she was already ’weak’ in the first place—she approached Aubrey.

"Stay, help them out," she told Ken, who just looked at her admiringly and did as she was told.

They were far from the others and far from the zombies and Mira didn’t fear anyone would overhear.

She looked some meters away from them, where Khalifa was fighting the zombies with her swords, not even breaking a sweat.

She was far from her men, her orders so she could swing her weapon without bothering to watch out for anything else.

"Khalifa is so strong and amazing. Her men are also, I didn’t know the professor was so strong…" She looked in a direction, acting surprised to see someone else. Aubrey’s head was too hot to question anything at this time.

"Oh, Miss… weren’t you that girl with Professor Hill?"

Mira paused to look at the other woman’s fists clenching. Her voice lowered, as if a devil seducing a poor vulnerable woman.

"I will apologize for him as his student," she said, sounding very kind. "He used to be so kind. I didn’t peg him for someone who would suffocate a woman.

"I really couldn’t imagine. He just loves Khalifa so much. You know how love works," she said, "It makes people do crazy things. I hope you understand."

Such imagery finally triggered the inevitable and Aubrey’s eyes turned red. She couldn’t help but recall the suffering she went through in the armory, followed closely by the heartless humiliation Cauis did to her.

Her Cauis… her Cauis would never have done such a callous thing!

He had been so gentle and kind before. Khalifa changed him!!!

If Khalifa was gone, Cauis would be hers again!

She quickly unpinned the grenade and—with all her strength—she hurled it to Khalifa’s direction.

She was not usually very strong but, judging by the projectile, her throw would reach the other woman.

Aubrey grinned—and so did Mira—knowing the explosion would reach Khalifa for sure!

In their mind they could see her exploding. Even better—ugly and burned. They even see her surviving, but cast aside by her men like trash because she had turned so ugly!

Whoosh!

Inside the mob, the beautiful Khalifa’s movements paused a bit.

Her heart dropped as her intuition was telling her to run. Then she looked up and saw a grenade hurling right at her.

"Damnit!" She yelled, summoning much of her strength to create an ice wall as far from her as possible, blocking the damned thing!

Who the heck would throw a damned grenade at her?!
