Chapter 21: Jacob
Khalifa checked the list she made of things to buy, wondering how much she needed to target to be able to live well for at least ten years in the apocalypse.
[x] Grains, Flour, wheat
[x] Instant noodles, jerkies, dried fruit
[x] Oils
[x] Condiments and sauces
[x] Seeds
[x] Potable water
[x] Bathing water
[x] Underwear
[x] Hygiene products and toiletries
[x] Beauty Maintenance
[x] Medicine
[x] Comfortable Wear
[x] Winter clothing
[x] Leather clothing
[x] Leather boots
[x] Portable solar generators and chargers
She stared at the items and wondered if she forgot anything. She thought long and hard about these things and it wasn’t easy, because she wasn’t endemic here.
Back in her world, she would never lack anything. Either it was in her space, she had some multi-purpose magic artifact at hand, or that one (or two) of her men had already prepared it for her.
While a little hassle, it was quite fun to prepare these things.
To be honest… she was actually enjoying the planning.
Like feeling the joy of window shopping, of sorts.
Back to the procurement, she could actually buy a bit of everything, but it probably wouldn’t last a year, maybe even half if she couldn’t control herself.
She looked at her streaming account to check how much she made. Other than gifts, she may have earned more from the recording.
She was surprised she could withdraw over a hundred dollars.
In these few hours, she made about 240 dollars, half of which was taken by the platform.
Although the initial earning wasn’t so large, the video went viral and was estimated to make her a bit more money from views alone.
Still, this hundred (and still growing) was a huge deal for a day’s work. After all, a person more or less only earned this amount after a few days of working.
Not to mention, it was her first video, and it would still earn her more money in the long run.
She wondered which of the suggested songs she’d do next. Should she do another Kaize?
She should, right?
She chose this not only for the views, but also because she really liked his songs. As if they were made for her.
She finally searched for this famous artist and saw his handsome face and dashing performance.
He was well-coordinated and had a flexible body.
He had great moves and charisma, and it was not surprising so many panties fell on him when he’s on stage.
But she looked at his video though and she found that he… seemed a bit familiar?
Very familiar…
Memories flashed by her head, memories from a long time ago.
No, right?
So coincidental?
However, before she could look deeper into it, her phone rang.
The worried mother on the other side distracted her from all thoughts.
***
An hour prior.
Jacob stared at the ceiling in a daze, looking at his phone. "Should I call her?"
This had been the question that had been plaguing him for a whole day.
He rolled around his bed for a long time, but no definite answer was chosen.
It was the weekend and he wasn’t in the mood to go out, he just wanted to see her.
Then the phone rang and he hurriedly opened it, only to see it was just his parents.
Tsk.
"What is it?"
"Well, we miss you too. How are you?"
"So-so."
"We’ll be heading back in a few days. Can you ask Khalifa what souvenir she’d like to get."
"Khalifa?"
"Yes? Your tutor? Have you forgotten her name?"
He sat up at the mention. "No. She resigned yesterday, didn’t you know?"
"You agreed?"
"That’s not up to me is it?"
"But your exam is coming soon! What did you do? Did you annoy her again!?" There was a little noise on the phone, as if his mother abruptly stood up and hit something.
She probably did.
"Ouch! This won’t do—I’ll call her!"
Jacob’s eyes widened, but he cleared his throat. "Are you okay, mom?"
"What? Oh yes. I will call her now. Toodles~"
Looking at the hung up phone in front of him, he couldn’t help but brighten.
This was the best impression he had of his parents!
They were both very successful business people!
He believed in their negotiation skills!!!

An hour later, he received a text from her, and he felt like flying.
[Are you available for tutoring Tonight?]
He hurriedly typed Yes.
Yes, of course.
He took a good bath and ordered some good food.
He ordered a bit of everything—pizza, pasta, chicken, et cetera. He knew she liked to eat, and feed her he shall!
***
Khalifa sighed.
Parents could get really persuasive if it had to do with their children. Of course, the doubling of her pay had a lot to do with it.
She entered their villa and saw Jacob waiting for her, smiling gently, hands folded in front of him, like a little wife.
Her lips twitched at the association, but she kept herself from chuckling.
But Jacob beamed upon the sight of her and strode to her, taking away her bag, and holding her shoulder, guiding her into the house.
"Let’s have an early dinner first." He said, "I’m hungry."
Khalifa nodded at the mention of food, and she sat down at the table with a little anticipation. Looking around though, she found the nanny wasn’t there.
"It’s her day off."
"Oh." She shrugged, and she stared at the food served in front of her.
She politely waited for Jacob’s signal before digging in, and the two ate very peacefully, sneaking in some small talk along the way.
"So... how was the girl? Is she your girlfriend yet?"
He blushed furiously at this question, making Khalifa misunderstand that it ’went well’.
How was he supposed to say that he lied about pursuing someone, and that it was a friend’s story?
He couldn’t help but send a glare at the woman who was carelessly putting hot sauce on her pizza, not noticing his stare at all!
He just wanted to try kissing her.
Why was that so hard?!
What do you think?
