Nick just looked at Gluttony as it was getting ready to swallow him.

Yet, before it could activate its ability, it narrowed its eyes and immediately shot into the ground.

BANG!

A gigantic pillar of fire came out of the ground, pushing Gluttony back into the light.

Then, several spears of metal and ice shot at her from the distance as the sounds of heavy gunfire echoed through the world.

Nick threw the burning paper away as he focused on Gluttony.

At this moment, ten people had appeared around Gluttony.

Every single one of them was a Peak Protector.

The elite of humanity.

The person guarding the treasury in Aegis' headquarters was here.

A solid red shell appeared around Gluttony, and the vials hit it.

The red shell turned into white mist before dissipating, but Gluttony's body remained unharmed.

Sure enough, the Corruptors had ways of dealing with Star Energy.

Suddenly, one of the Protectors fired a gigantic rifle, and the bullet hit Gluttony right in the chest.

However, there was barely any damage.

At least in the beginning.

Gluttony noticed that its chest was turning into white mist.

Luckily, Gluttony was powerful and experienced enough to counteract a bullet that contained Star Energy.

Part of Gluttony's chest immediately detached and turned into white mist.

"AAAAAAAAHHHHH!"

Suddenly, Gluttony let out a terrifying screech.

The Barriers of the Protectors activated, and they all lost 50% of their Zephyx.

This was an attack that targeted the mind, and these were very difficult to block.

Because of that, the Zephyx the Barriers used to defend against such an attack was disproportionally high.

Fortunately, this attack targeted humans, not Specters, which meant that Nick wasn't affected by it.

"Change your Barrier settings," Nick transmitted to the Protectors. "I'm unaffected."

The Protectors immediately did as ordered.

All of them dedicated their lives to Aegis, and they knew about Nick being a Specter.

Yet, the Left Arm and the Champion had ordered them to trust Nick with their lives.

Gluttony released another screech, and all the Protectors gritted their teeth as the world warped in their perception.

Yet, the glasses still perfectly showed them where Gluttony was.

They continued attacking, but their attacks lost a lot of accuracy, and most of them missed.

However, a couple of them still hit.

Gluttony released one more screech, and it activated its ability to absorb the old man with the vortex ability.

Yet, the old man didn't waver.

He just activated his ability again to keep Gluttony in place.

While Gluttony was being barraged by attacks, the old man turned into black dust that entered Gluttony's body.

He died.

BANG!

Another shot containing Star Energy hit Gluttony in the head, and Gluttony detached its head from its body.

BANG! BANG!

Two additional vials of Star Energy landed on two different spots on Gluttony's body.

It had been too distracted with killing the old man and dealing with the Star Energy bullet to notice the vials.

Two huge chunks of its body detached.

SHING!

A gigantic spear pierced Gluttony's body, and shortly after, Gluttony's entire body caught on fire.

"I surrender!" Gluttony transmitted.

The person holding the spear immediately pulled out a vial and emptied its contents all over Gluttony's body.

Three Protectors stood together and channeled different abilities that could suppress Force Specters to keep Gluttony in place.

Several more shots fired.

BANG!

Pieces of a Specter Core were blasted out of Gluttony's body.

It was over.

The Specter Core represented the existence of a Specter.

If the Specter Core was damaged, the Specter would receive devastating injuries, at the very least.

Most of the time, it just symbolized death.

Just to make sure, everyone continued attacking until there was nothing left.

Eventually, the Protectors calmed down.

They had done it!

They had killed one of the Corruptors.

"Focus!" one of the Protectors ordered."Follow the plan!"

A moment later, everyone looked at Nick.

"Nothing," Nick answered, telling them that there were no Specters nearby.

Naturally, the Trio of Destruction would immediately become active when Gluttony died, and it was uncertain what they would do.

Thanks to Nick, the Protectors knew that they were not the ones being attacked by the Trio of Destruction.

But that had been expected.

All of Aegis' Shields were ready for battle, and they could appear anywhere.

If the Knife was hiding near the group, the day could end with a dead Specter from the Trio of Destruction.

The risks were too high.

Yet, the Trio of Destruction still struck back.
