Chapter 71 - 71 Drew Barrymore
Chapter 71: Chapter 71 Drew Barrymore@@novelbin@@
“No, I’m the one who should be apologizing,” the woman in front of him quickly realized, taking the handkerchief from Adrian’s hand to wipe the water stains on her chest, and at the same time, she looked up and gave a charming smile, “Thank you.”
She had striking blonde hair and grey-green eyes with a certain arch that was seductive. The iconic baby fat on her cheeks added a touch of innocence and adorability to her allure, which allowed Adrian to recognize her instantly. Drew Barrymore, the little girl who had kissed an alien in “E.T.” and was also known as a bad girl of Hollywood.
But she was no longer a little girl now; dressed in a purple evening gown with a slit that ran almost to the top of her thigh, her pale thighs peeked in and out beneath the hem of her dress. Three-inch heels accentuated her curves, and the blush on her face lingered long, very enticing. Adrian couldn’t help but pinch his fingers slightly, recalling the previous embrace around her waist and the unintended touch when wiping away the water stains.
“Thank you for your handkerchief. You are…” Drew handed the handkerchief back to Adrian, examining him with a curious look, “You’re Adrian Cowell? The genius director?”
“I’m honored that you remember my name, Miss Barrymore,” Adrian replied with a gracious smile.
“It’s really surprising, you look so young.” Drew expressed her astonishment, her eyes turning as she seemed to ponder something, and then she casually glanced down below him.
“Everyone says that when they meet me for the first time,” Adrian noticed her gaze and arched an eyebrow, but it only took a few seconds for him to realize that when she had bumped into him, her back was towards him, so her hips had just brushed against him below, and he had had quite a bit to drink, so…
“You know, I once tried out for the role of Cindy in ‘Scream,’ but I was eliminated in the last round,” Drew suddenly mentioned, “They said I… was too cute, not suitable.”
“That’s not wrong to say, Cindy is a very strong character, having a slightly more masculine appearance would be more fitting,” Adrian commented, though he couldn’t help but find it amusing. If he remembered correctly, Drew “once” had a role in “Scream,” the girl who gets killed by the psychopath killer in the opening scene, who despite only being on screen for a few minutes, received quite a lot of praise. What was more interesting was that she had also served as a producer because the movie was one she had produced after setting up her own company. He wondered what kind of projects she would produce if she still went on to set up her own film production company in a few years.
“Forget it, don’t think I don’t know what they’re thinking, I’m well aware. They want to say that my current image is too libertine, fit only for roles in ‘Dream Chasing Journey’ types of films, nothing else!” Drew turned her head to look at the laughing crowd in the distance, speaking with a tone that was complaining, helpless, and forlorn. However, her left index finger kept rubbing against her thumb—a gesture that didn’t escape Adrian’s notice.
“Why bother about what they think? As long as you know what you’re doing, that’s all that matters, right?” Adrian calmly said, “If you think their perspectives are flawed, then why not create your own film company, be the producer, and make the movies you want to make, just like I do.”
Drew’s eyes lit up, and she soon broke into a smile, “That suggestion sounds great; maybe one day I’ll really set up my own film company. I wonder, Mr. Cowell, if you’d be interested in investing then?”
“Of course. Though I haven’t read your autobiography that came out last year, I believe you’re a smart girl. Maybe you’re lacking something now, but in a few years, it’s hard to say,” Adrian complimented her modestly.
Her smile grew wider, her lips curling into a seductive arc, “Thank you. I believe that too. But before then, I still need to honestly strive for roles for myself.”
Just then, something seemed to occur to her, and she blinked at Adrian, “Speaking of which, maybe you could give me some advice, Mr. Cowell? Everyone says you have an excellent eye, and no one else has managed to produce three outstanding films within two years, let alone own their own film company.”
Deliberately or not, Drew’s chest gently brushed against Adrian’s arm as she straightened up. Adrian raised an eyebrow, giving her alluring face a careful once-over, his gaze even carrying a tinge of aggression. Drew, on the other hand, slightly lifted her chin, holding Adrian’s gaze without concern, the blush on her youthful, pretty face remaining due to the alcohol, making her look especially enticing.
“Frankly, Miss Barrymore, you’re really beautiful. Perhaps you should try more romantic comedy roles. Why worry about what others say?” Adrian said with a slight smile.
A hint of disappointment that was hard to detect flashed across Drew’s eyes, but before she could speak, Adrian went on, “However, if you’re willing to take on some different roles, I do have one. It’s a remake of a movie from the 50s. The budget is low, yet the role offers a lot of room for performance. Perhaps you’d like to audition, Miss Barrymore?”
“Really?” Drew showed a look of surprise.
“I don’t make mistakes when I set my sights on something,” Adrian maintained his smile, but his tone was clearly arrogant.
Drew blinked, her smile becoming more seductive: “Well then, please let me know when it’s time to audition, okay?”
“Of course,” Adrian nodded.
“By the way, aside from making movies, what else do you enjoy doing? I like photography. When I was a child, I used to carry my mother’s camera everywhere to take pictures,” Drew changed the subject, then glanced around, “Let’s head over there, shall we? It’s a bit crowded here.”
As she turned around, her footing suddenly wobbled and she stumbled backward into Adrian’s arms again, her curvy bottom coincidentally bumping into his lower part.
“I’m so sorry, I might have drunk a bit too much,” Drew apologized quickly after steadying herself, holding onto Adrian’s arm.
“It’s okay,” Adrian said, holding her with a smile, “Every gentleman should be happy to be a lady’s support, especially for a beautiful and charming lady like yourself.”
“Oh, you truly are a gentleman, Mr. Cowell,” Drew remarked wistfully, playing with her hair by her ear, her pitiable expression and tone making her appear vulnerable and endearing.
It seemed like an accident, but Miss Barrymore clearly liked this accident. As she straightened up, her beautiful gray-green eyes were filled with a different kind of sparkle.
“I enjoy many things, sometimes I play the piano, work out, and I’ve dabbled in photography, too. Because my interests are so broad, my knowledge in most is only superficial. Fortunately, storytelling is something I am good at, no matter how the story is told,” Adrian said, as he walked alongside Drew, tenderly holding her arm, which was as smooth as white lotus roots, and they began to chat.
