Chapter 72: Chapter 72: Dessert After Dinner

“He stood in the aisle and yelled loudly, ‘I want to complain to this airline! Every time I fly, I sit in the same seat with no movies to watch, not even curtains! It makes me unable to sleep!’ Then the flight attendant came over and said in a resigned tone, ‘Come on, captain, stop messing around.'”

Drew immediately giggled, shaking charmingly, her chest trembling against Adrian’s arm, “Are you always this humorous and witty, Mr. Cowell?”

“It depends on the situation and the person. I am more than willing to make a beautiful lady laugh,” Adrian shrugged, his eyes unintentionally sweeping over her delicate collarbone. Such flirtation had happened several times during their conversation of more than ten minutes. Although Drew was very subtle and natural, she couldn’t escape Adrian’s notice.

“I wish I could make people happy like you do,” Drew sighed, tilting her head to brush the strands of hair from her temples, revealing her pale neck.

Truly a goddess, Adrian thought to himself, then continued, “It’s not difficult, just need to read more books related to humor or anecdotes about celebrities.”

At that point, the topic suddenly changed, “Speaking of which, I just thought of a celebrity anecdote that is quite interesting.”

“Really? Let’s hear it,” Drew immediately showed a curious expression.

Adrian thought for a moment then shook his head, “Never mind, it’s a bit too indecent, and it might not even be a real anecdote, probably just made up by someone.”

Drew, as expected, took the bait, her curiosity deepened, “It doesn’t matter, consider it a joke then.”

“I’ve never heard of such a thing before,” Drew’s eyes sparkled with excitement, “By the way, I remember there’s a statue of David in the last room upstairs in the golden hall, maybe you’d like to join me to see it?”

Adrian looked around, noticing no one was paying attention to them, and nodded immediately, “I’d be delighted.”

The two of them, hand in hand, left the hall and went upstairs following the staircase. At the hotel parties, organizers often rent several rooms for guests’ usage, whether for private talks or other things, it was up to the guests.

They quickly arrived at the last room on the second floor, thankfully it was empty, Adrian and Drew entered and then quietly locked the door. The room was simply furnished with sofas, a coffee table, a carpet, and a long table but didn’t look cheap under the well-placed wall lamps, the luxurious style of the Hilton Hotel was still faintly visible.

Adrian was surprised to actually find a replica of the “David” statue in the corner of the room, though smaller than the original.

“It doesn’t look that big, even if it were the original size,” Drew examined the statue then playfully toyed with the bottom part of it, turning to Adrian with a teasing smile, licking the corner of her mouth seductively.

“That’s why I said earlier, it might just be made up,” Adrian shrugged, his gaze boldly sweeping over her enticing figure.

================================

Three weeks after the release of “The Shawshank Redemption”, its box office had dipped to $17 million, but relative to the reduced number of theaters at 1500, this number was still decent, bringing the North American total to $67 million.

This undoubtedly disappointed many who were skeptical about the film, some graceless folks couldn’t help but make some sour comments, but unfortunately, they couldn’t affect the good situation of “The Shawshank Redemption”.

Many movie fans expressed that it was an exciting film.

“It’s really hard to imagine how faith could make a man use a small rock hammer to dig through such a cave for 20 years, I think everyone felt compelled to cheer for Andy when he looked up at the night sky in the rain,” a movie fan said in an interview after watching.

Of course, there were discontented grumbles too, “I admit it’s a good movie, but I would have preferred to see a film directed in the same style as the previous two, with countless intertwined clues that dazzle the eyes, that’s cool.”

Nevertheless, even as Thanksgiving approached, and various film studios began competing for the Thanksgiving-Christmas season, “The Shawshank Redemption” attracted lots of attention by the end of ’91.@@novelbin@@

And Adrian, the creator of all this, enjoyed a dessert at the celebration party, then he returned to Studio 28 to continue shooting the new movie.

Frankly speaking, the dessert was delicious, and though Drew Barrymore was only sixteen or seventeen that night, she indeed made Adrian’s evening very pleasant. However, a dessert, no matter how tasty, cannot replace a main meal—it cannot become a main meal. So it’s okay to indulge occasionally.

Of course, Adrian would not benefit without giving something in return; he definitely had a movie suitable for Drew. Having to review scripts submitted to the editing department, he remembered a screenplay recently adapted from a 50s movie looking for producers, and because of Drew, he recalled this movie from his past life memories—”Guncrazy,” a low-budget film that earned Drew a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress. Naturally, it was perfect for Drew to star in, and taking such initiative on someone else’s behalf, especially in matters concerning them, was always something Adrian loved to do.
