Chapter 152: Preparation Control
....
"Wake up." Astralious shook Elias slightly, "It's time."
"Already?" he mumbled as he rubbed his eyes. He stretched his arms, a small yawn escaping his lips. "That was fast."
"Yes, already. It's been three hours since you went to sleep. And I still don't understand your plan." Astralious gestured impatiently, grabbing his head in frustration. "How is sleeping going to get us past those powerful people and into the tomb?"
He had been thinking about it for three hours, but even if he was to overestimate the skills of Elias, he couldn't think of a way to get past Freya and Jeskirin.
"It depends."
Elias slid off the bed and landed on the shadowy ground which was cold to the touch. He sent the bed back, and wore his shoes before opening the exit to the realm.
"Depends on what?" Astralious asked while following Elias out of this place.
"It depends on their patience." Elias landed behind the rock after editing the shadowy realm. He peeked off the rock, and observed the entrance of the tomb.
Three hours had passed since the first person entered the tomb, which looked like enough time according to him. Still, he wanted to be certain.
"I suppose I was right. Freya and that man are not here anymore."
"They aren't? Did they leave already?"
"Did you expect such powerful existences to wait here for days? I doubt they even stayed here for over two hours."
"Then why did we wait for three hours? Was that just to be safe?"
"You are starting to understand me." Elias confirmed Astralious's suspicions. He considered their tolerance and took an extra hour as a favor of safety.
Now that the two more troublesome existences had left, things had become much easier. Even better was that there was only one Professor left behind, one that Elias had barely any recollection of.
"The other Professors are probably writing their apology letters somewhere."
The Dean has personally cast a barrier around this area to stop any intruder, so they probably didn't think that there was any need for unnecessary security.
Even if there was to be any security, it was to be outside the dome shaped barrier that was the size of a football field. Elias had never left this area, so he was already inside the barrier before it was cast.
"I understand that delaying things helped us, but aren't we still late by three hours compared to others? Can we still get the flames?" Astralious asked, rubbing his forehead.
He didn't even know if he should be happy that they could enter the tomb, or be upset that they were behind others by at least three hours. Didn't it mean that even if they were to enter, they were going to be left nothing more than spectators?
"If I'm to believe Freya's words, this place was created to select an inheritor to the flames. It's not a place where there hours of lead is unassailable," Elias explained. "And if we are late, then there's nothing gained, nothing lost. We are just trying our luck, aren't we?"
"Sometimes, you are a little too carefree. Even with such a treasure within your reach, you can still be so lax." Astralious found this trait of Elias a little impressive, but also somewhat frustrating.
"How are you planning to get past that one professor though?"
"You don't have to worry about that. He will open a path for us himself." Elias looked at the time on his watch, the second hand slowly moving to complete the mark.
"Creation Control," Elias mumbled with only twenty seconds left until midnight. "Explode."
Boom~
A deafening sound responded in the surroundings, accompanied by the ground trembling and a cloud of fire rising.
Compared to the explosion caused by the flames of ice phoenix, the new explosion looked like a child's toy. But if it was to be compared to something humanly, then it was comparable to the explosion caused by explosives on earth.
The explosion alerted the professor who was assigned to protect the tomb. He immediately informed the other professors through his badge, while rushing to check the explosion which happened inside the protective dome.
With the professor moving past the right side of the rock, Elias moved to the left side to hide his body. Only after the Professor had gone past him, he came out of his hiding and started running towards the entrance of the tomb.
"When did you even prepare that? I've been with you all this time!" Astralious floated behind Elias, repeatedly looking back at the explosion.
"Now isn't the time to explain. The other professors have been alerted. Some of them will definitely come here to guard this place." Elias exclaimed, running as if his life depended on it. "We probably don't even have a few seconds!"
As he closed in on the tomb entrance, he felt the spatial fluctuations in the surroundings. More Professors were arriving.
"Fuck, was I too optimistic?" He jumped forward, dark wings coming out of his back to give him one last push as he jumped forward.
His body passed through the barrier of the tomb, and he disappeared within.
Merely a fraction of a second after Elias passed through the entrance of the tomb, a Professor appeared before the entrance. The other professors materialized at the sight of the explosion.
Inside the tomb, Elias fell on the ground, his back drenched in cold sweat, his heartbeat running faster than he had.
"We did it." Elias placed a hand on his chest, feeling his heartbeat. At moments like this, he truly felt like he was alive, with the fear of death dancing over his head.
"It looks like we truly are safe." Astralious also sat next to Elias, appearing to be exhausted even though he hadn't really done anything. "Now tell me. What was that explosion? When did you prepare it?"
"We are inside a tomb created by the owner of Ice Phoenix Flames. Do you really think this place is any safer than outside?" Elias asked, wondering just how lax was the definition of safe for Astralious.
What do you think?
