Legendary FBI Detective

Chapter 249 249: HIV Carrier

Manhattan Island, Greenwich Village.

The dark-colored SUV slowly pulled up to the curb, and Reesi stepped out of the vehicle, looking at the huge stand-alone apartment in front of her, and patted Luo An on the shoulder:

"Luo An, this place doesn't seem very far from your house, does it?"

Luo An looked at the house in front of him, at least three times more spacious than his own small apartment, and nodded his head after clicking his tongue.

Flavia Fran's house is at the southernmost part of Greenwich Village, while Luo An's is at the northernmost. It seems like they are far apart from one another, north to south, but in reality, it is just a few minutes' walk.

Two evidence collection agents following them used technical means to open the door of Flavia Fran's house, and as soon as Luo An entered Flavia Fran's house, he made straight for the study.

As usual, Reesi headed straight for the bedroom. Luo An opened his mouth upon seeing this but ultimately decided not to say anything.

Unsure if her lesbian tendency would kick in again this time.

Upon entering the study, what caught Luo An's eye was the stacks of documents on the desk that were taller than a person.

Luo An flipped through them and found they were all medical cases and medical knowledge, then he noticed a locked cabinet under the office desk.

Without making a sound, he opened the cabinet, which contained a thick folder filled with personal information and photos of various individuals.

After a careful examination, Luo An found that all the individuals in the folder shared one common feature: they were all infected with AIDS.

Recalling the records of Flavia Fran, if many had contracted AIDS through sexual transmission, considering the several women he had been in contact with since he'd arrived in this world...

Luo An's face tightened, and he decided to go for a blood test at the hospital later, as it wouldn't cost much.

"Luo An, I've found something."

Just then, Reesi pushed the door open and walked in.

Seeing that she was only holding a cellphone, Luo An raised his eyebrows and asked:

"What's the situation?"

Reesi said she found Flavia Fran's cellphone in the bedroom, and after unlocking it, she discovered Flavia had frequently contacted someone recently, who was her colleague, and has now rushed over here.

"OK."

Luo An nodded his head and handed Reesi the folder he was holding.

"What's this?"

Reesi appeared puzzled but still opened the folder.

Luo An mentioned his plan to head back to the hospital and asked Reesi if she wanted to join him.

Although the HIV virus doesn't spread through saliva, the exchange between women doesn't only involve kissing.

If a woman was infected with AIDS and happened to have a bloody wound on her, and Reesi accidentally came into contact with the woman's blood...

The probability of this chain of events is indeed not high, but it doesn't take into account the large base of women Reesi has been in contact with; her emotional life is far richer than Luo An's.

Sure enough, after Reesi opened the folder and saw its content, she went pale and immediately nodded, deciding to go to the hospital with Luo An for a blood test.

Not long after, Flavia Fran's colleague arrived, bringing two even thicker folders.

"Hello, you can just call me Lena."

Flavia Fran's colleague, a white woman in her forties, handed the folders to Reesi. Upon Luo An asking about Flavia's recent work, she replied:

"Since her son died of AIDS, Flavia has been dedicating her work to treating AIDS patients, providing them with help, and looking for the source of their infections."

Lena expressed that many people actually do not know that they have been infected with AIDS, and Flavia would investigate people who have had intimate contact with AIDS patients, then inform them of the likelihood of their condition, as well as their family members.

"Wait a second."

Luo An frowned upon hearing this and interrupted:

"You mean to say, Flavia would ignore the requests of the HIV carriers and directly inform their family members of the situation?"

"Yes."

Lena nodded, her face a mask of complexity.

Luo An and Reesi exchanged a glance, their expressions altering slightly as they understood each other's thoughts.

The mere mention of contracting AIDS could incite fear even in a liberal place like the Federation, with AIDS patients often facing discrimination, disdain, and aversion.

Flavia's intention was to protect the safety of the families of those infected with AIDS and hoped the families could help the patients to together overcome this difficult time.

But in reality... the word 'AIDS' always first and foremost induces fear.

Parents are angry, spouses and children feel disgust, colleagues and friends steer clear – this is most often the harsh reality faced by those with AIDS.

Furthermore, people in the Federation place a high value on privacy rights, making Flavia's actions akin to gambling one's own life on the goodness of others.

However, judging by the current situation, it was clear that Flavia had lost that bet.

Luo An did not wish to discuss the right or wrong of Flavia's actions, and he directly asked:

"Has Flavia received any threatening calls recently?"

"You should be asking me if there has been a time when she hasn't received threatening calls."

Lena sighed, indicating that ever since Flavia started this, her office phone would ring many times a day.

"In addition to people scolding her over the phone, someone has also written threatening letters."

Lena pointed to the two extremely thick folders she had brought with her, one containing the threatening letters sent by others, and the other folder containing the names of the AIDS carriers that Flavia had identified.

"The line between violating privacy and preventing AIDS is paper-thin."

Without needing to look, Luo An knew what those threatening letters would contain. After a moment, he asked:

"Do you know how Flavia has been investigating the connections between these AIDS patients? Is she doing field visits, or using other methods?"

"Field visits mainly, but there are other methods, too."

Lena answered:

"Flavia has a brown notebook which she usually keeps in her red handbag, the notebook records the entire process of her investigation.

Every time Flavia writes a name in it, eighty percent of the time, that person turns out to be infected with the AIDS virus; hence, we often jokingly call that notebook 'the book from hell'."

"A red handbag and a brown notebook?"

Reesi's brows furrowed upon hearing this. They hadn't seen these two items, and he turned to look at Luo An. Luo An thought about the fact that all of Flavia's personal belongings, including her wallet, had disappeared and nodded:

"It's highly likely that the killer took them."

That afternoon, Investigation Unit Five, office area.

Reed was distributing the folders that Luo An and Reesi had brought back. Augustus stood at the forefront, gave a brief introduction of Flavia's situation, and then said loudly:

"Everyone, the killer of Flavia is very likely one of the AIDS patients she had contact with. In your hands are the personal details of these patients.

Our next objective is to meticulously scrutinize these individuals to find the murderer!"

The number of people in the folders added up to nearly 200, while the threatening letters numbered almost a hundred. After Reed finished distributing everything, William's mouth twitched at the sight of over forty sheets of paper on his desk.

Seeing this, Reed chuckled, glad he wasn't a technical agent.

But, glancing over and seeing Luo An and Reesi's seats empty, Reed felt puzzled as he hadn't heard about any new assignments.

Augustus took a sip of coffee:

"They both just asked me for some time off to handle a bit of personal business."

Beside him, Mona, who also wore a confused expression, exclaimed: "??!!"
