Chapter 250 250: Reesi's Blood Test Results and the Suspect
A private hospital in the New York Manhattan District.
This hospital often caters to the well-known tycoons and politicians of the New York Region, so privacy is highly valued.
In a VIP reception room, Luo An and Reesi are waiting for the blood test results.
Luo An's expression is relatively calm. Since arriving in this world, he hasn't been involved with many women. Getting a blood test today is just a precaution and a way to reassure himself.
But Reesi next to him is dripping with sweat on her forehead, visibly restless.
Not only because Reesi has been with many women but also because earlier, she and Luo An were returning to Unit 5 with a folder. While reviewing the list of HIV carriers in the car, she unexpectedly recognized a woman she had seen before!
That woman was also a lesbian. Although Reesi had never been intimate with her, they had both hunted for beauties at the same bar.
Places like bars are a mixed bag; who knows if her fingers had ever crossed paths with that woman's.
Thinking about this, Reesi's complexion becomes paler and paler.
"Stay calm, Reesi."
Seeing the expression on Reesi's face, Luo An promptly stands up to pour her a cup of coffee. He is now a bit worried that Reesi might be scared to death even before the blood test results come back.
"Thank you."
After taking a sip of the coffee, Reesi takes a few deep breaths and slowly steadies her emotions.
After a few seconds of silence, Reesi shows a wry smile:
"Luo An, I think I might know why the assassin wanted to kill Flavia.
If the doctor comes in and says my test is positive, to be honest, I'd also feel like killing the doctor."
"Eh..."
Luo An is somewhat speechless, but he is also awaiting the test results. By putting himself in her shoes, it's not difficult to understand Reesi's psyche.
Seeing that there is still some time before the test results come out, Luo An thinks for a moment and starts to chat with Reesi to distract her:
"Reesi, I feel like it's highly probable your results will be negative. If that's the case, what do you plan to do in the future?"
Reesi is slightly taken aback. After a moment of thought, she realizes Luo An is suggesting she should play it safe in the future, but she immediately shakes her head:
"No worries, Luo An. In the future, I can just use protection like you guys."
"..."
Luo An's expression freezes. What's the use of you wearing protection when playing with fingers?
He can scarcely dare to imagine such a scenario and is about to continue speaking when Reesi suddenly asks:
"Luo An, you've started living with Mona already, right?"
"Yes."
Luo An nods, then thinking Reesi is asking whether he will discuss this matter with Mona upon his return, he responds:
"Don't worry, I'll handle it properly."
Upon getting a firm answer from Luo An, Reesi mutters to herself in a low voice.
She had planned on sharing an apartment with Mona when she would visit Los Angeles.
Now it seems that idea is dead in the water.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
After a while, someone knocks on the reception room door, and then a doctor walks in.
Taking the test report and seeing that his blood has no issues, Luo An immediately breathes a sigh of relief.
Just as he's about to turn around, Reesi leaps onto him, hugging his arm and exclaims excitedly:
"Awesome! I'm fine! I'm totally fine!"
Reesi jumps and hops on the spot, her state of excitement akin to that of someone from the East who has struck it big.
Luo An doesn't stop her, having been scared to that extent just now; it's good for her to vent her emotions.
"If you keep squeezing my arm like that."
After a few seconds, Luo An shakes his arm:
"You're going to tear my sleeve apart."
Reesi promptly lets go of Luo An and says:
"Sorry, I got too excited."
Reesi, overcome with emotion, grabbed the coffee from the table and drained it in one gulp:
"The first time I brought a woman to my bed, I wasn't even as thrilled as I am today!"
Reesi's statement had many talking points, but Luo An didn't poke fun at it, as he noticed something else.
"Reesi, I have a question for you."
Instead of hurrying away, Luo An pondered for a few seconds, looked up at Reesi, and asked:
"If the HIV test result you just received had been positive, you'd have really wanted to know who transmitted the virus to you, right?"
"Of course!"
Reesi nodded, then seeing the expression on Luo An's face, she suddenly realized:
"You mean, the assassin who killed Flavia would be desperate to know this too!"
"That's right!"
It was completely human nature.
Moreover, Luo An thought of another point: if the assassin had viciously murdered Flavia, who only told them about the HIV-related issues, then would they spare the person who had infected them with the virus?
"It's very possible that there is another victim!"
Upon hearing Luo An's analysis, Reesi clapped her hands and continued:
"And this victim could just be in one of those folders!"
"That's right."
Luo An immediately left the hospital with Reesi, drove the SUV back to the Jacob Federation Building, and shared the analysis with William and the others over the phone.
"Okay, we'll check right away to see if anybody else has died."
William responded on the other end of the call, then added:
"Also, we just discovered that the phone in Flavia's office actually had a caller ID device attached, capable of logging communication records.
Based on these records, we found a guy who not only verbally abused Flavia but also threatened to stab her to death and poke several holes in her chest."
"It does fit Flavia's manner of death."
Luo An's expression remained unchanged. The threatening words were all too similar; they can't be expected to threaten to give Flavia a leg rub.
Getting to the point, Luo An said:
"Is there any other discovery?"
"That's right!"
This time the voice on the other end of the phone was Mona's:
"We used the phone records to identify that person, his name is Darrell Roger, and he's been in prison for sexual assault, illegal firearms possession, intimidation, and first-degree assault, among other charges. He was paroled four months ago but never reported to his parole officer.
The forensic science agent scanned all the threat letters and found a massive number of Darrell's fingerprints on the text and elsewhere in one of the letters, confirming he wrote it."
"Wow."
Reesi, sitting in the passenger seat, raised an eyebrow:
"This guy is really something."
Luo An glanced at her, noting that her energy seemed to have returned now that her blood test was clear.
After a moment's thought, Luo An asked:
"Can we find out where this Darrell is now?"
"Of course."
Mona gave Luo An the address, and Luo An nodded, turning the steering wheel of the SUV in a new direction.
Darrell Roger was a middle-aged Caucasian man with a shaved head, no beard, and a somewhat rotund appearance, working in New York Brooklyn at a small food workshop.
When Luo An and Reesi arrived, Darrell Roger was unloading flour from a truck with two others.
Parking the SUV at the curb, Reesi walked towards him, calling out:
"Darrell Roger? We'd like to ask you something!"
The next second, Reesi's pupils contracted because Darrell Roger looked up at her and Luo An, and without any hesitation, he pulled out a handgun from his pocket.
What do you think?
