Chapter 289 Weird looks
1 week later,
Lucas was in his master's workroom trying to manipulate the ingredients in front of him with the help of his mana and alchemy skills.
His master, Sam, kept looking in his direction trying to decipher his level of proficiency.
Lucas's development had been quite too fast under Sam's eyes. His proficiency in alchemy had increased significantly, and his skills were that of a 1st year alchemy apprentice.
While other alchemy apprentices took about a year to reach this level of proficiency, Lucas had covered it in just two weeks.
Yet even Lucas knew that if he didn't have the guidance of a Master alchemist, that too from one of the best master alchemists in the town, he wouldn't have progressed this fast.
Lucas made an ingredient in its essence state float in front of him, beads of sweat flowing down his face.
He looked down and tried to get the other essence which was kept in a bottle to come up too yet the moment his concentration broke, the essence floating in the air fell and splattered all over the table staining everything.
"Hm, that was good enough," Sam stated while nodding.
"But Mast-"
"No buts, I don't know what standards you have but in my eyes, you are already doing too good. This much skill will be enough for the tournament."
Lucas chuckled while looking at his master, who had a small cheeky smile without realizing it.
"I feel like you are even more excited than me for this tournament."
"Well, if you can fulfill your promise then I don't see any reason for not being excited." Sam smiled again yet this one was like a fake one. It was as if he was trying to say that Lucas was being tested right now.
A grin formed on Lucas's face too as he tried to practice his skills again.
Aside from his already godly class, the alchemy skill that he individually gained was now level 3.
The master and the apprentice went with their respective jobs again, one observing while the other performing.
Lucas didn't want to waste his time, it was expected as the tournament was starting tomorrow.
——
A day later,
Lucas took a warm shower and wore the set of clothes that his master had provided him. The clothes were like that of a noble, it was too premium for his taste.
It was a deep crimson velvet doublet, with circular gold embroidered patterns on the chest and sleeves. The trousers were tailored from smooth charcoal silk and adorned with a silver buckle at the waist.
There was also a long emerald-green cloak lined with the luxurious fur of a high-level monster, there were drapes from his shoulders, and lastly, his apprentice badge adorned on the chest area.
Lucas was in a dilemma as to whether he should put on the disciple badge on the doublet or the extra cloak that he was reluctant to wear.
In the end, he just sadly wore the cloak too thinking that his master had arranged it so lovingly for him.
According to his master, the clothes took a week to manufacture from scratch which was a lot in this world as the average time tailoring for noble clothing was only a few days maximum.
After wearing all the clothes, Lucas left his room and found the devil girl, Lila, waiting for him beside his door.
"My god…" Lila was first going to make some sarcastic comment yet when she saw Lucas and the way he was dressed. She was speechless.
Lucas's hair was fixed with a product he brought in the market, he had dressed his hair in a way his father taught him.
"What?" Lucas felt a little conscious as Lila was staring weirdly at him.
"Hm? Oh… nothing." Lila gulped while speaking.
"A simple 'all the best' will suffice, you don't have to keep staring at me." Lucas tried joking yet Lila's ears became red.
"Who is staring at you?! Ugh... all the best!"
With this, Lila vanished into thin air, the second time she used her skills in front of Lucas.
'What a weird girl.' Lucas carefully scratched his head and went on his way.
As he had some good clothes on today, Lucas decided to take a carriage yet when he reached the market, every single person's eyes, whether it be the shop owners, the carriage drivers, or the by-passers moved toward him.
When their gaze fell on him, everyone stopped completely. Lucas stiffened, not knowing what was happening. The amount of attention he was getting was more than what he would get even when he was with his father at a party.
It was not Lucas's fault, but his master's. Lucas didn't know the ways of this world. The people in front of him were simple citizens, the commoners.
And what Lucas was wearing among them was the clothes that even a royal would only wear on a special occasion.
Suddenly, a man, unknowing who Lucas was went on his knees from where he was standing. Looking at him, the others also felt a need to bow themselves toward a royal.
Lucas saw old people trying to go down on their knees even though it was tough for them, and the weirdest thing for him was that they were all bowing from the sidelined toward Lucas.
'Holy shit, I have to leave.' Lucas ran toward an empty carriage in a hurry, whose driver was also bowing.
"Take me to the alchemy tournament's location please," Lucas said to the man on the ground who without looking up just nodded and went to his seat to drive.
'Why is everything so weird today? Is it my hair? Have I made it too handsome for this world?' Lucas thought about stupid questions while the answer was in front of him.
It may have been because the carriage driver was stressed, but they were going very fast, and within minutes, Lucas was in front of the tournament tents.
"That was fast, thank you. Here." Lucas gave him a couple extra notes in appreciation and without saying anything, the carriage driver just took them without saying anything.

Just like that, Lucas made his way toward his master who was supposed to be sitting among the other master craftsmen.
What do you think?
