Chapter 155 Right This Way, Traveler Thurston (4)
For some time, the sounds of a single pistol being rapidly fired and reloaded, accompanied by several explosions, took over the massive Gymnasium; however, not a single person seemed to be reacting.
Of Course, the constant yelling and back-and-forth bickering between Staff Sergeant Lewis and Principal Gavver could also be heard as they spat every curse in the book at each other, but even if their battle was heated, not a single person moved to interject.
Not because they had a choice, but instead because it was a losing battle; they were both far beyond the capabilities of mere foot soldiers such as themselves, and even the Academy Staff were left scratching their heads.
Meanwhile, Aoni stood in place, looking at the ground, wondering if it was a better idea to turn around and jump back into the Flume or stay put and accept his fate.
Never in his wildest dreams did the Lad think something as simple as the 2-Star backpack he'd crafted would be enough to start a brawl between people who were higher up on the food chain than he could hope to imagine.
To be fair, it wasn't that the backpack even housed anything good inside; at best, the contents could be considered scraps for people at their level; however, it was the simple fact that Sergeant Lewis seemed to covet something that didn't belong to him that pushed Principal Gavver into action.
"COUGH, excuse me, Traveler Thurston." As the battle raged on, the meek voice of a young woman came from Aoni's left, causing him to turn slightly in her direction only to find a lady a few years older than himself, wearing professional work attire and holding a tablet in her arms.
"Yes?" he asked, a bit confused still about why no one had stepped in to stop the fight.
"If you would please come with me, we have a tight schedule, and the next Newly Awakened Traveler should be coming through the Flume shortly." She said with a business smile that didn't mask her anxiety about the high-paced battle across the Gym.
"Yes, Ma'am…but…" Turning his entire body with the intention of following her wherever he was directed, Aoni paused and looked back at the large pile of useless resources he'd brought back.
"Ah, don't worry about your items. Everything has been cataloged, even your backpack, and you have nothing to worry about; they will be collected, and you will be rewarded as per usual procedure."
"Oh…so I can't keep my backpack then," giving off the appearance that he was quite distraught about it, Aoni's shoulders slumped slightly, causing the woman to scrunch up her face.
"Everything is negotiable, please…" Waving her hand toward the tunnel leading out of the Gym, the woman continued…
"Right this way, Traveler Thurston."
"Yes, Ma'am." Keeping his head low, Aoni watched the young woman briskly walk away from the battle and followed a few steps behind her.

Your adventure continues at My Virtual Library Empire
Moving quickly, the two left the Gym, headed across the main courtyard, and soon arrived at the bus loop, where on a usual school day, over 20 buses would have been waiting for students to ferry them home.
Only today, instead of buses, there were dozens of blacked-out SUVs with the official Government crest plastered on the side, a crossed sword and spear with a giant tiger behind them in white acrylic.
"Yours is number 22. Please enter the vehicle, and the driver will take you to the regional headquarters for your examinations." She said while stopping beside a vehicle bearing the very number on the side in golden-trimmed lettering.
With a curt nod, Aoni waited for the driver to hop out, run around, and open the door for him before sitting down and observing the expensive interior of the SUV.
'Damn, how are these seats so bouncy…it screams rich,' out of admiration, Aoni nearly bounced on the plush seat, but when he noticed the intense gaze of the driver in the rearview mirror, he froze and continued to look at his feet.

Thirty-five minutes later, after being let out of the SUV, Aoni found himself standing in front of a large set of stone stairs leading toward a very familiar skyscraper.
This was the regional headquarters for the Trafalgar City Traveler's Bureau.
The Traveler's Bureau was a government-established and run guild of sorts, and all Travelers, either immigrants from other countries or newly awakened such as himself, would at some point find themselves climbing a similar staircase.
Every single testing procedure would be run in the TB buildings, and upon getting certified, it would even become a central hub for missions, selling materials, or even socializing.
Think of it like a Hunter's Association/Guild or something from other fantasy novels or anime. It basically served the same purpose, only it was run by the government, and if you didn't play your cards right, it was extremely easy to get bullied into a slave contract.
Taking a deep breath and noticing that his driver had already abandoned him, Aoni walked up the staircase, where several staff members could be seen waiting outside with tablets.
There was no media presence, no guilds trying to snipe newbies, or any people trying to cause trouble; instead, it was all structured and ran like a well-oiled machine.
Stopping on the top stair, Aoni noticed a middle-aged man wearing a similar professional outfit to the woman who'd been in charge earlier at the Academy, walking away from the group and heading in his direction.
"Traveler Thurston, my name is Garret Newlin, and I will be accompanying you throughout your application and verification process; please allow me to congratulate you on making it through the initial Tutorial Period and for completing the achievement of returning alive." The man said, while spinning on his heels and motioning for Aoni to follow him into the building.
'This guy clearly hates his job and wants nothing to do with me. Did they already retrieve my base stats or something?' Using his hair to hide his eyes, Aoni glared at the man's back while walking several paces behind him, yet he still had enough presence of mind to utter.
"Yes, sir."
What do you think?
