Chapter 89 Dinner and Communication
Since he himself wasn't a picky eater, and Glacia DEFINITELY wasn't, Aoni hadn't ever put much thought into what type of food he was eating.
In his mind, calories were calories, and if they tasted good, awesome; if not, well, he simply would suck it up because beggars can't be choosers.
Every day was a struggle for survival, and without putting forth the effort to make it happen, Aoni would starve; it was as simple as that.
Now, with the newest edition to the family, the lad actually found himself stumped as to what the young fledgling would eat.
'She wouldn't survive off, like, nuts and berries or something like that, right? Considering the size of the monsters I saw in those memories, they should be meat eaters…' Sitting out by the campfire and grilling up some rabbit meat from Glacia's most recent hunt, Aoni kept looking over his shoulder as the floof showed her new sister around the platform.
Of course, it was more like Nyria was along for a ride because she was perched on Glacia's back, riding her while the furball padded around in a happy mood, pointing out her favorite things.
Like the pile of rocks, she spent hours making into a formation or her favorite sticks. Moving around the platform from station to station, she would occasionally point out things like how one container smelled different because it had all the meat in it or even the path she had dug through the snow, forming a tunnel.
Moving in a clockwise direction, Glacia brought her new sister to the tanning station and showed off all the things she had collected while pointing out that Aoni was making stuff, not that she knew what those words meant but instead parroted the lad's words.
All the while, Nyria seemed to be enjoying herself and listening to the gaos and oos as they adventured around the platform.

Once lunch…or Dinner was ready, considering it was going to be dark soon, Aoni called over his summons to one of his more materialistic projects, a wooden table; as for chairs, well, it was low enough to the ground that Aoni and the summons could plop down on their butts and eat with no problems.
Then again, it was a HUGE ask getting Glacia to eat from the table; even so, the lad persisted and placed down three plates filled with salted and grilled meats.
Since he wasn't sure of her preferences, Aoni had mixed them up, using a bit of chimera meat, some rabbit, and a few other small creatures Glacia had been sniping out of boredom lately.
"Dinner!" once the table was set, the lad cupped his hands around his mouth and hollered to his summons, who were on the other side of the platform, out of sight thanks to the Cave.
Half a minute later, Glacia came trotting along with Nyria, picked a spot to sit, and waited to be served, as she had done the last couple of days after extensive training.
In the beginning, Aoni felt like banging his head against the cave wall because no matter what he did, the second the plate hit the table, Glacia would destroy what it held, but after several, and I mean SEVERAL picturebook lessons, he was able to get her to at least wait to eat until he gave the signal to.
"Nyria, I wasn't sure what you would like, so for right now, all we have is these different types of meat; if you don't like them, I can go through some of the supplies I have and try to find something else." Pushing two plates forward, one for Glacia and one for Nyria, Aoni spoke with a gentle tone so as not to frighten the bird.
He did have some reservations about Nyria's level of intelligence, but after the few conversations he had with the young bird, he figured her to be roughly on par with a 7- or 8-year-old child.
'Fo..od?' tilting her head cutely and hopping off her mounts back onto the table, Nyria examined the different types of cooked meat before pecking at the golden Chimera first, sniffing it a few times and with an etiquette unbefitting a certain someone, took her time eating.
MEANWHILE
"OM NOM NOM NOM NOM OM NOM!" Glacia was pigging out like a fucking slob, causing Aoni to facepalm and reprimand her.
"Glacia! SLOWWW, one of these days you'll end up choking with how fast you eat; look at your sister, see how well-behaved she's being," Slapping his forehead, Aoni stared at the floof with dead eyes, causing her to freeze in place with a mouth full of half-chewed food.
"Yeah, im talking to you, floof, pfft," with a shake of his head, Aoni stabbed a piece of Chimera meat with his wooden fork and began eating slowly and as gracefully as someone raised without proper table manners could, almost as if trying to set an example for his little glutton.@@novelbin@@
Yet, not even 30 seconds later…
"OM NOM NOM NOM," Glacia was right back at it again, face on the plate nomming away like someone was going to take it away from her.
"Sigh, I give up, Nyria, don't follow her example, you're a good girl,"

"Chee?"
"Un, good girl," Seeing the questioning gaze directed at him, Aoni smiled and nodded.
"Chee, chee," causing the bird to nod in return and leaving Glacia utterly confused.
She was minding her own business and became the target of bullying; the worst part was that she was too innocent and, thus, didn't even realize it, so apart from getting scolded, the floof had no idea that she was being teased for eating too fast.
Nyria, on the other hand, completely understood everything her lord said, but that was partially due to her grade and partially because she had been around Humanoids long enough to understand communication.
That fact alone set her apart from Glacia. For Aoni, it was quite a joyous thing because while it was fun bantering with himself, *Conversing with Glacia*, having actual conversations where someone understood what you were saying, was the difference between night and day.
What do you think?
