Chapter 512: Chapter 509: Expert Blame Shifter, Little Myna

The day the explosion happened, Bi Fang was still hammering away in the Banna Rainforest, completely unaware of the incident.

Fortunately, Richard was not in the car when the bomb went off.

The adversary likely just wanted to make a statement, without any intention to kill.

The blown-up car was still rented under Richard’s name, and nobody knew when the bomb had been planted. As a result, he had to compensate the rental company with a substantial sum.

“It’s good no one died. It’ll be alright,” Bi Fang sighed and consoled Jerret, then asked, “What happened to your faces, though?”

Touching his still-bruised cheek, Jerret recounted with difficulty, “The night we left, a group of residents suddenly burst in and smashed all the filming equipment. We rushed to protect the gear and then got hit, but it was too chaotic in the darkness for them to be sure they weren’t hitting the wrong people, so no major harm was done, just some minor injuries.”

...

The equipment for shooting documentaries ranges in price. The cheap stuff could be just a few DVD players, but the expensive gear can be outrageous.

Any equipment, once it falls into the hands of enthusiasts, is priced astronomically high, not to mention Jerret had gotten his directly from the Discovery Channel. The studio treated this director very well and trusted him enough to lend the equipment without asking questions.

A whole set of photographic equipment, specifically for documentaries, some even more elaborate than what is used for movies, was for rent only, not for sale.

Now it was all gone, the money flying away as the tools hit the ground.

All the equipment was smashed beyond recognition, irreparable and impossible to put back together.

Unbelievably, in a country praised internationally for its advanced economy and educational system, the local villagers could resort to such barbarity!

They were even worse than primitive savages!

After finishing his story, Jerret took a sip of soy milk to catch his breath.

The others remained silent after listening, as if reliving the terror of Dolphin Bay once more.

The xenophobic unanimity of the locals turned Dolphin Bay into a dragon’s den, a Bloody Demon Cave.

Every single person, driven by self-interest, turned into a demon in human skin, almost causing Jerret, Richard and the rest of their group to never return.

Indeed, that was the case. If they hadn’t all been from Ugly Country, including a well-known director and professor, their “accidental deaths” would have caused quite an uproar. It’s hard to imagine to what extent those Japanese People would have been audacious.

Bi Fang fell silent. This all sounded more exciting than his days in the rainforest. Scanning over the injured crowd, he said, “So what do you plan to do now?”

Having been introduced by Jerret, the group was gradually getting acquainted and more relaxed, casually discussing their plans over breakfast.

“Of course we have to continue. If we don’t, then was I just beaten for nothing?”

Pondy’s forehead bulged with veins, obviously having suffered greatly as well. As the security assistant tasked with protecting everyone, he naturally took more beatings: “I’ve got to show that bunch of bastards some color!”

The electrical expert spoke with anger: “I’m going to throw some ashes in that old man’s eyes who hit me! Let him weep in agony! How dare he pull my hair!”

Upon hearing this, Bi Fang involuntarily glanced at the other’s Mediterranean bald spot and felt a newfound respect.

The man’s scholarly achievements must certainly be non-negligible!

The two divers looked at each other and said in unison, “All we want to know is what’s really happening in that bay.”

Any professional diver would have a fondness for the creatures of the sea. They were not fanatic dolphin lovers, yet they were willing to seek the truth for them.

The Japanese Government’s unbridled concealment could not continue unchecked, no matter the circumstances.

Jerret grew more indignant, slamming his fist on the marble table, nearly splashing his soy milk: “My equipment was all smashed; that’s an astronomical sum! Now I don’t even know how to explain it to the studio. I must expose everything!”

Thinking of the equipment made him want to vomit blood. If he had to pay for it himself, it would bankrupt him. Luckily, the Adventure Channel let him off the hook considering his hard work without success, but Jerret still felt indebted.

He had been helping a friend and the company had suffered a loss as a result. Jerret was determined to make a big splash and recoup the company’s losses!

This time, he had come to Bi Fang hoping Bi Fang could lead his ragged crew back into the fray.

Raising the issue dearest to him, Richard also spoke up: “The hunting season in Taiji begins every summer, from late July to the following March, nearly a whole year. We must act quickly to expose all their doings!”

“It’s already the end of June, and in a few days it will be July. We have only a month left, but we definitely need to enter the area early to set up cameras.”

Bi Fang calculated the time: twenty-one days of survival in the Banna Rainforest, and it’s still the end of June with the hunting season not yet started. Although dolphin killings do occur, such footage would be useless.

The local government could easily dismiss the whole incident as accidental bycatch, making it ineffective to address the issue.

Only by revealing the most blood-stained truth can the darkness truly be exposed to the light. That meant Bi Fang and the others could only capture the true massacre after the hunting season had started.

It might seem callous. If they could film it, why not prevent it and just watch the slaughter happen?

Because it was impossible to stop.

Bi Fang knew all too well: How many people are in a village?

A few thousand or several tens of thousands?

It’s called a village, but it’s more appropriate to call it a county; the entire county supports fishing. How could Bi Fang possibly fight this alone?

If he had a Superman-like physique, he might have a chance.

Even if Bi Fang knew the truth, that every year over twenty-three thousand dolphins are killed in Dolphin Bay, he could stand up and expose it.

With his current influence, certainly a lot of people would choose to believe him.

But, without evidence, it’s impossible to create a significant impact, and without such impact, it means nothing to the locals.

Hasn’t anyone stood up to reveal this over the years?

Of course, there have been, but they all vanished without a trace in the end. It’s even possible that the local government might lead the charge to denounce Bi Fang, using the situation to attack him.

A small fish can cause a ripple, a whale can cause a wave, but all this is trivial. If tens of millions of big fish stir together, they can create a tsunami!

Those little rascals can do anything, especially when it comes to deflecting blame with first-class skill. We must crush them with overwhelming force.

Last year, Japan even blamed Huaxia when there wasn’t enough Pacific saury to go around, as the local fishermen didn’t catch anything, and the public, which considers Pacific saury a common delicacy, was enraged.

The official explanation had to be given, and they blamed it on global warming, alleging that it hindered fish migration.

Global warming is like a brick, it’s always taken wherever it’s needed.

The officials are used to shifting blame, and so is the public. A large number of people accused Huaxia of overfishing, causing the little rascals to miss out on Pacific saury.

Please, aside from Japan, no country in the world catches Pacific saury on a large scale. Pacific saury costs only about ten yuan each at Huaxia’s small barbecue stands. So cheap, and you tell me we are overfishing?

Later, their own people couldn’t stand it. Shengchuan Toshio, a PhD candidate from The University of Tokyo’s Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and an associate professor at Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, presented an abundance of facts and data, proving that Japan’s own fishing limits for Pacific saury were inconsistent with their actual catch, and accused Huaxia’s claims of being utterly “shameless.”

No country other than Japan fishes for Pacific saury on a large scale.

If Japan could lead in establishing a resource management framework, it wouldn’t have come to this point. They only thought to “mend the fold after the sheep are lost” and set up rules when the number of Pacific saury sharply decreased.

In Bi Fang’s view, Huaxia has long been a leader in environmental and animal protection.

Whether it’s a ten-year fishing ban in the Yangtze River, or introducing summer fishing moratoriums, strengthening fishing restrictions, creating strict fishing frameworks in Southeast Asia, or even in land conservation areas and animal protection measures, they are much stronger than those countries that only talk but do no action, including Ugly Country, Japan, and even Europe that even wants to protect shrimp rights.

Beyond that, there are many more measures, including vigorously developing new energy sources, all for the sake of protecting the environment.

Only Huaxia is truly focused on the future of humanity, sacrificing short-term benefits for the sake of longer-term interests.

In such matters, the key is to see who does more, not who shouts the loudest slogans.

Whether it’s eating meat that leads to carbon emissions, or anything else, it’s all just propaganda by conspiracists.

For those little rascals, it’s extra embarrassing to be slapped in the face on the spot by an associate professor from their own country’s best university.

It turns out that I’m the one overfishing?

But even so, even with evidence slapped in their own face by their own people, there are still Japanese who refuse to believe, accusing Shengchuan Toshio of taking dirty money, wielding authority, and using false data to mislead the public.

Ordinary Pacific saury is one thing, but such accusations are even less welcome when they hint at something as serious as the “mass slaughter of dolphins.”

For this reason, Richard and others must use the most authentic documentary to become the sharpest nail, nailing these guys down once and for all!

The team currently, excluding two who are seriously injured, includes the well-known documentary filmmaker Jerret from the Discovery Channel, dolphin expert and core figure Richard, two world-class divers, an electronics specialist, a photographer, and a safety assistant.

And finally, the newest addition, Bi Fang, the greatest adventurer of this century.

In total, eight members are about to launch their second assault.

“The only problem is, we still need a batch of new equipment, just don’t know where to get it.”@@novelbin@@

Jerret was worried; he had no face to ask the Discovery Channel again. This shoot was different; if it were a regular mission, he could borrow from other directors.

But what they need is highly concealed functional shooting, which must also have good filming quality.

That kind of thing is hard to find. If they opt for regular filming and production, it would be very time-consuming and possibly too late.

They need to complete the filming as soon as possible after the start of the Dolphin Bay dolphin hunting season and quickly put an end to everything.

A light bulb went off in Bi Fang’s head.

“I might have a way.”
