Chapter 99: 99: Plunderer Society (Revised)
Chapter 99: Chapter 99: Plunderer Society (Revised)
Old Coulson gifted a small booklet that recorded various professionals and also some unofficial extraordinary forces along with their deeds. Most of these were still centered around Secret Phoenix State, clearly the reach of the Ancient Castle Bureau hadn’t extended too far.
Originally, this had nothing to do with Tang Qi, but the last entry he saw inadvertently was different.
“A new extraordinary organization has risen in Selle State; they call themselves the ‘Plunderer Society.’ Their purpose is to collect various extraordinary artifacts and abnormalities and to explore the mysteries of eternal life and the Divine. For this goal, they have used all means, creating many bloody massacres.”
“The Plunderer Society first invaded Secret Phoenix State by recruiting a powerful black witch from within, attempting to snatch an abnormality that had already been contained by the Ancient Castle Bureau. After suffering casualties on both sides, the war ended with our forces expelling the Plunderer Society from the State.”
“The whereabouts of the powerful black witch are unknown; intelligence personnel suspect she has been dispatched by the Society to another major state where investigations continue…”
Below this information, Tang Qi also saw a few lines of notes detailing the characteristics and other information of the powerful black witch during combat.
“Samra!”
Upon reading, Tang Qi immediately blurted out three words.
From the descriptions in the booklet, Tang Qi easily confirmed that the person described as a “powerful witch” by the official of Secret Phoenix State was none other than Samra, who was traveling abroad.
It seemed her travels were quite fruitful.
Being recognized as powerful by officials isn’t something ordinary extraordinary people could achieve.
At this moment, Tang Qi felt complicated. Knowing that his future opponent was such a formidable person, he should feel fearful. But Tang Qi’s body was trembling slightly, not from fear, but excitement and an indescribable intense anticipation.
…
“Looking forward to fighting a strong opponent? Is this residue given by the Master of the Crucible, or something else?”
Tang Qi silently concentrated, feeling his own mind.
In the end, he confirmed it.
Unaffected by anything, his feelings at this moment were the most genuine and direct. His heart actually longed for a fight with a strong person like Samra, a fight that would allow him to unleash all his combat power liberally.
Tang Qi suddenly fell silent, as if he had just gotten to know his true self.
In his mind, the originally very vague plan was rapidly becoming clear.
Now knowing the news of Samra, and it looked like “good news” too, given that this powerful witch had been expelled from Secret Phoenix State after a conflict with the Ancient Castle Bureau, theoretically as long as Tang Qi continued hiding in the Thorns Campus, it would only become safer.
Perhaps one day, Tang Qi might even hear from the Ancient Castle Bureau that Samra died outside.
As for the remaining people like Abu, they had no idea that Old Morgan was trying to exchange souls, so Tang Qi had ways to dodge around this.
It could be said, methods to “survive” had already been laid out in front of Tang Qi.
But at this moment, a dangerous thought crazily sprouted.
He felt that the “opportunity” he had been waiting for had finally arrived.
“Buzz”
Tang Qi first glanced at the white mask on the workbench, then his gaze fell on a shelf on the side of the living room.
There, covered with black cloth, was a glass bottle containing the nearly-expired Professor Cassel.
After a moment of silence, a smile suddenly formed on Tang Qi’s lips, then this smile widened. When Tang Qi stood up, his face was already wearing a very unrestrained smile, and he walked straight to the living room, then took a business card from his pocket.
On it was Old Coulson’s name and phone number.
Tang Qi didn’t hesitate, dialled the number, and soon Old Coulson’s voice came from the other end, somewhat surprised by Tang Qi’s call, as they had just met the night before.
However, upon hearing Tang Qi’s request, Old Coulson was even more surprised.
“The kind of artifact you’re looking for indeed exists, but the prices are quite steep, and temporarily we do not accept Divine Grace Coins.”
On the other end of the phone, Old Coulson said.
Then, with a laugh, he added: “If you’re willing to join the Ancient Castle and become an insider, you might be able to apply. The chances of success are pretty high.”
“I can exchange Extraordinary Bullets, and I take custom orders, most calibers are no problem.”
Tang Qi decisively chose to quote, since Divine Grace Coins weren’t acceptable, then exchanging Curios should be no problem.
As expected, after just a second of silence, Old Coulson’s voice came through, carrying a hint of anticipation.
“Good!”
“Tonight, you will receive a package. For the specific transaction, you can negotiate with the deliverer.”
“Thank you for your help, old sir.”
“Don’t mention it, young man.”
In a pleasant atmosphere, the two ended their conversation.
After hanging up the phone, Tang Qi seemed to be in a good mood. At this moment, his mind was more relaxed than ever before, as if having made a certain decision, he had shed many burdens. Now all he had to do was follow the somewhat mad, somewhat dangerous plan in his mind.
He quickly prepared breakfast, and after eating, Tang Qi did not go to class.
In fact, he didn’t plan on attending classes properly these days, as he had some important matters to handle.
In the somewhat chilling fog of the early morning, Tang Qi first went to Holy Thorn Hospital, visiting Stanna and the other members of the special response team who were also hospitalized due to injuries.
After all, they were just ordinary people. Having survived the ordeal at the hands of that masked man was already considered lucky, and it was not strange for them to be hospitalized collectively.
This included the director himself.
Since Tang Qi was the only team member left, the director graciously granted him a few days of paid leave.
Tang Qi accepted the director’s kindness. Indeed, he needed a few days to make some preparations.
Leaving the hospital, Tang Qi didn’t return to school but took a bus on a new route that quickly led him into a special street.
Although still in the Central District, the area was more secluded.
However, the crowd on this street looked dignified, dressed neatly, and most of them possessed a special aura. The air also carried a scent that could be described as stinking or fragrant—the smell of ink.
Newspaper Street—a simple and crude name that quickly informed guests where they were.
Tang Qi, inhaling the fragrance of ink, entered it, his gaze swiftly sweeping over the nameplates on both sides of the street. After confirming the memory in his mind, he immediately chose one and walked towards a building that was a bit luxurious but seemingly aged.
Half an hour later, Tang Qi left Newspaper Street with a satisfied smile.
Afterward, he chose a horse-drawn carriage, which clopped its way towards Messer Police Station.
When he was half a street away from the police station, in a location closer to Blank District, Tang Qi had the carriage stop.
Not far away, inside a grimy alley, a few young beggars were gathered, sharing some surprisingly steaming food. The leader, also a young beggar with a dirty face marred by numerous freckles, was more eye-catching for his crippled left leg.
McGraw!
A beggar who had recently received a large reward from Tang Qi.
Seeing the situation in front of him, he hadn’t done as initially expected—taking those coins and living a normal life that provided for basic needs.
He chose a different path.
At this moment, he was playfully messing with a few mates, his demeanor vastly different from before. As he inadvertently turned his head, he seemed to see something. His expression abruptly stilled, and then joy that could not be suppressed emanated from him.
Soon, McGraw composed his expression, maintaining a mild smile, and turned to his mates, saying, “Brothers, I need to leave for a bit. Perhaps when I return, I’ll bring back our first business deal.”
With those words, McGraw, limping and wriggling strangely, quickly left the alley.
What do you think?
