Chapter 255 Smile.
A week passed.
Mark felt his eyes burn at the sensation of the sun. His surroundings were filled with corpses of Tier 2 creatures. Even though they couldn't harm him any longer after he gained the Armor of the Savage trait, they could still hinder his escape.
A proud laugh echoed into Mark's ears. "Demon Boy, give up and die. You haven't even had the chance to sit for the last three days, and the number of Tier 3 creatures in my army is increasing by the day. You are running away for no reason, there is no hope for you."
Spitting out blood, Mark took off in flight. Numerous flying ships moved towards him from all directions. Most of them had Tier 3 creatures at the helm!
If he got caught, he was hundred percent going to die.
If he kept running, his mental state wouldn't be able to keep up for much longer.
Since he couldn't escape from these people's detection either, he had no escape route.
"Even if I die," Mark said hoarsely. "I'll die after giving you irrecoverable losses. Why don't you let me go? Why don't we trade?"
"Trade?" The voice mocked, echoing from all directions. "Fine. Let's trade. Give me your True Name and I will make my army stop."
Mark felt a Tier 3 enemy close in on him.
He felt his body freeze.
Esper Mind!
Mark's flight stopped abruptly and a Star Monkey appeared infront of him.
"You heard the commander," the Star Monkey said, removing the goggles from its eyes. "Give him your True Name and…"
Mark took a deep breath and smiled. "Did you think you could keep me here until the other Tier 3s reached us?" He laughed. "You are too weak."
The armor glinted around Mark's skin and in a second, he vanished. He had been preparing for this—he had used Costume of the Murdered on a Savage he killed long ago. He could teleport now.
And anywhere his Soul Sense was, so was there his aura.
Aura Teleportation!
Mark appeared behind the Star Monkey and he took its head by his palm, staring into the distance at more enemies in the horizon. Meanwhile, the Star Monkey's whole body exploded into golden liquid.
Alchemic Shapeshifting!
It was Heart Blood.
Mark sucked the whole thing into him with a deep inhale.
His lost energy was completely replenished.
Reol'ran said, "Mark. This is the only way now. Use these enemies as your training. For a long time, you will have no sleep, rest, or anything. Just endure it, keep escaping, keep killing them to replenish your reserve. Hone your battle sense through them."
Mark nodded.
He would have to learn killing like an artist does art indeed.
He just hoped his mind could keep up.
If I could just sleep for a single night…
He thought, coughing up blood even as he ran away once again.
If he found a place where there was only Tier 2 creatures or below, he could rest for a tiny bit. Of course, the Star Monkeys would just surround him again with Tier 3 enemies soon.
"I can't wait to get your armor in my hand," the voice said, as lackadaisical as ever.
…
Ryan opened his eyes wearily.
There was only one way!
He has to risk it!
Flapping his wings, he no longer bothered hiding and flew into the air, moving closer to the captured Demons.
When he was close to them, he licked his lips and touched up his appearance, removing all sorts of weariness.
When asking for help from strangers, appeal to their self-interest, not pity!
Reaching even closer to them, Ryan laughed mockingly. Then—he shouted: "Look at you, grand demons at Tier 4 or even stronger levels, and here you are, dying like any other mortal would. Sitting, alone, in a forsaken land chained against your will."
Numerous eyes focused on him.
Ryan laughed grandly.
"A fairy?" The Succubus blinked, speaking with interest.
Ryan blinked. White wings, pale human skin, and white hair with silver eyes. He did look like a fairy—quite a bit. Yet, before he could find the humor in that, he felt a strong hand wrap around his entire body.
He was only the size of a palm, so the capturer looked like a giant in his eyes.
It was a Grey-Winged humanoid!@@novelbin@@
"Yo, yo. Don't crush me!" Ryan shouted calmly. "Or I can't save you all!"
Many demons squinted but the Grey-Winged humanoid just tightened his grasp. Ryan felt his eyes bulge, his stomach churn, and his veins pope.
"Puny little thing," the enemy said. "You smell very much like the demon who just scammed us."
"Listen—"
"No need, kill him," The Succubus said with a smile. Find adventures at My Virtual Library Empire
Ryan panicked inwardly but said with the last few breath he had, "Yeah, kill me. And what then? You will all die here miserably. All your dreams will crumble. I can give you portal keys! I AM YOUR LAST HOPE!"
The Succubus smiled. "A clone of some sort of that demon? Kill him," she said.
The other demons didn't stop her, they just stared at Ryan apathetically. He grew even more restless, but there was no longer any breath inside him to scream. He felt the Grey-winged humanoid use even more force to crush him.
But then, it suddenly clicked to Ryan.
If he wanted to kill me, he could have killed me much faster. There is no way these demons all would equally let go of their last hope like this for mere vengeance. They are not that idiotic, right?
He felt his legs explode into puddle of blood.
He felt his hands explode too.
With his blurry eyes, he saw the blood in his hand drip into the mouth of the Grey-winged humanoid. Amidst the pain and disgust, Ryan laughed. He had gained some breath.
"I accept my punishment!" he said. "Now, how about we talk about our deal? Fate wants us dead, isn't it time we fight back?"
The Succubus smiled. "Smart kid."
Ryan suppressed the pain and smiled back.
He had found a narrow path to walk through this misty forest-part of his life, and that was being vulnerable in the hands of demons whom he had just scammed.
What do you think?
