Chapter 559 - 228 The Division of the Four People Above and Below
After the astonishing battle between Tilan and Seraphiel came to an end, the second match featuring Maidi and Klentchin seemed much more subdued.
The Songstress line didn't have much of an advantage in combat, and it was partly due to luck that Maidi made it to the final eight. In fact, there were several students who were eliminated who were no less capable than her, but that's just how the competition rules worked. It would be too time-consuming for the Winter Festival Tournament to let every student compete in a points-based rotation; it would probably take more than a month to complete.
However, despite some discrepancies in luck, there wasn't much controversy over who the champion was; as long as you kept winning, that was enough.
Inside the battle arena, Maidi didn't opt for rapid movement and dodging like Wokard. Instead, she simply stood her ground, relying on her singing voice and the abilities related to the Songstress to change and disturb the environment, making it difficult for Klentchin to utilize his space-related secret techniques. Although in the end Klentchin managed to defeat her using other methods, it was an ugly victory. He essentially wore down Maidi's magic power and stamina bit by bit, like a stubborn child, and then claimed victory.
"Crystal Lattice Academy wins!"
After the referee announced the result, Klentchin breathed a sigh of relief. Although the opponent wasn't strong, she was an uncomfortable foe for him to deal with. The secret techniques Maidi practiced lacked offensiveness, but they were no shortage of support and defense abilities, and she often used mental abilities to interfere with him, making it hard for him to concentrate and deploy the high-precision secret techniques that required deep calculations.
Being able to win two matches in this top eight was at least the bare minimum to maintain his ranking. He stepped down from the stage, recalling the instructions he had been given by his academy before entering today's match.
In this Winter Festival Tournament, even though Crystal Lattice Academy's performance wasn't stellar, it was still much better compared to Swarm's Reign and Thunder Edge.
Swarm's Reign just wasn't up to par overall this time, and although Thunder Edge had two dazzling geniuses, the middle ranks were severely lacking. Lelysia Academy was making steady progress, improving in the high-, mid-, and low-rank divisions. Edith Academy was even more apparent in its improvement, while Saint Ingo remained strong as ever.
"The third match, Thunder Edge, Levito, versus Saint Ingo Academy, Wokard!"
After the host announced, the two entered the combat area.
Despite the severe injuries he had suffered not long ago, Levito had already recovered considerably. He could give thanks that this was the Winter Festival Tournament, where the best healing resources in all of Star Domain were concentrated over these few nights. Even if someone died on the spot, as long as they weren't completely dead, they could be resuscitated.
Once positioned, Levito stood with confidence and a calm mindset, whereas on the other side Wokard's brow was furrowed, as if weighed down by an invisible pressure that made it difficult for him to breathe.
But this situation didn't last long, and soon the referee made the announcement.
"The duel begins!"
Levito raised his spear confidently, the grip easy, and as he swung it, countless streams of fire converged and then burst forth.
A fiery meteor crossed the dueling field, Wokard stepped hard, his body twisting in midair to dodge the spear that brushed past, then he surged forward, dual swords slashing in quick succession, sending crisscrossed cut marks towards Levito.
If it had been any other contestant, they might have been busy fending off these sharp and dangerous slashes, but for Levito, such assaults were easily shattered by just rotating the edge of his spear.
In the span of a few seconds, Wokard's surprise attack had brought him close to Levito, his crimson blades shimmering. The blade, imbued with Annihilation and anti-magic properties, rapidly swung down, creating a series of sparks against Levito's side, until seconds later, he was swept away and flung off by a thrust from Levito.
Crossing his swords to shield against the scorching, suffocating wave of heat in front, Wokard was gasping for breath, retreating several steps before steadying himself. After a brief rest, he charged forward again, but this time he vanished, disappearing from the dueling field.
"Oh, this kind of trick, huh."
Levito pondered briefly, then stomped his foot. A wave of fire rose and spread out in all directions. He then reached out into the void, pulled forcefully, and a stream of fire-like magic power gathered to form a golden-red spear in his hand.
Then, holding the spear, the flames roared as he swung it vigorously. In an instant, it extended nearly a hundred meters and swept across the entire field, tracing a fiery arc.
As this fiery arc was drawn, a figure appeared in midair—Wokard with his blood-red short sword lunging at Levito.
One sword pierced Levito's shoulder, igniting a fierce spark. The boiling magic power concentrated on the surface of the body seemed to catch fire and spread, blowing him away before he could even strike with his second sword.
Facing Wokard in the air, devoid of any resistance, Levito simply hurled his flaming spear, impaling and sending Wokard flying hundreds of meters before falling with his body burnt and charred.
"Thunder Edge wins!" After the referee declared victory, medical staff took Wokard away for treatment, thus concluding this duel.
After the match, observers sighed, "It was a complete domination."
"Indeed, it seems that Levito can't even muster any interest, not bothering to use even the slightest high-rank technique."
"The remaining few are all tough to deal with; I can see that now. Tilan, Seraphiel, Sevia La, and Levito are probably in the same league, while the ones below, like Klentchin, Sitasia, Maidi, and Wokard, are completely out of their league."
As everyone discussed, the last match of the second round arrived.
"Edith Academy, Sitasia, versus Saint Ingo Academy, Sevia La."
After the announcer finished, Sitasia almost walked onto the stage with tears on her face.
This is bad, this is bad, I'm about to take a beating; she wasn't blind and could naturally see the gap between herself and Sevia La. However, she was representing the Academy after all; surrendering right at the start would be too embarrassing.
"Begin the duel!"
As Sitasia was still thinking about how to lose more gracefully, the referee had already announced the start, and Sevia La wasted no time in action, leaping lightly into the air as soon as the announcement was made.
Butterfly wings stretched and wove behind her, two sword edges crisscrossing in the air; then Sitasia quickly dodged, her figure resembling a red streak of light.
"Trimming Dual Swords: Flapping Wings!"
A red 'Z'-shaped trajectory flashed in the air, and afterwards, Sevia La sheathed her sword edges and walked towards the high platform of her school.
Sitasia fell from the sky, kneeling on the ground with two through-and-through wounds on her chest and side waist cut open; blood quickly spread beneath her, slowly forming a small, red pool.
"Victory to Saint Ingo Academy!"
In an instant, Sevia La had swung her Wingsbeat three times. Sitasia dodged the first swing, but the second sword stab pierced through her chest, and the third sword cut across her side waist.
The first two rounds of the competition ended, and the score panel inside the arena displayed the temporary rankings.
——
Sevia La, 4 points
Tilan, 4 points
Klentchin, 4 points
Your next chapter is on My Virtual Library Empire
Seraphiel, 2 points
Levito, 2 points
Maidi, 0 points
Sitasia, 0 points
Wokard, 0 points
——
Currently, Sevia La and Tilan are in the lead, undefeated. Although Klentchin's score isn't low, everyone who has watched the matches knows that this is just temporary; Seraphiel and Levito below him are far stronger than he is.
"Begin the third round of competition!"
What do you think?
