Chapter 1405: Aiming Higher
"Take a look at your growth quests, Ataraxia."
Hearing those words leave her mouth, Valyr looked at her for a bit before nodding.
Ding!
Bringing up the prerequisite quests for his new subclass, the young man inwardly expected most, if not all of the quests to take a lot of time to complete, feeling that its difficulty would be similar to the quests for his main class.
However, when he noticed that almost half of the quests on the list had already been completed before he knew it, it was only then did he understand why Arcane said those words to him.
————
Growth Quests (Arcane Spell Scribe):
> Comprehend an Intent Seed related to mana (0/1)
> Comprehend an Intent Seed related to the Arcane concept (0/1)

> Reach at least the 5th level of the 81 Phases Mana Reformation Scripture (1/1)
> Inscribe three spells onto parchment (0/3)
> Inscribe three spells from either the [Arcane Compendium] or [Arcane Codex] onto parchment (0/3)
Rewards: Ascension of the Arcane Spell Scribe to Epic grade, additional skills and other miscellaneous rewards

"Huh…" Briefly scratching the back of his head from the surprise he felt, Valyr eventually returned his attention back to Arcane as he asked, "And this is what you meant by greater synergy?"
"Yep." Arcane nodded, her aura making it seem like she was smiling back at him.
"Thanks to the modifications I've done to your subclass, aside from an unavoidable number of quests here and there, all of the quests on both your main class and subclass are now pretty much the one and the same."
"From now on, once you meet all the requirements needed to evolve one of them, then it won't be long until you could evolve the other." At those words, she let out a slight chuckle. "Pretty good change, don't you think?"
Though he was still in the middle of wrapping his head around her explanation, Valyr still nodded in agreement with her words.
After all, it only made sense for the two to have similar quests, considering that the only difference the two had was the fact that they tackled the same concept from different areas.
On the other hand, the main classes and subclasses he had on his other identity tackled three different things at the same time.
'At the very least, it'll save me from further headache later down the road,' thought Valyr to himself, nodding as he finally understood the gist of her explanation.
Talking with Arcane for a bit more, the young man soon found out from her that she had made a few more changes to the subclass.
However, unlike the changes she discussed with him thus far, those changes would only become prominent the moment he evolved the subclass to higher tiers, causing him to become curious as to what those changes actually were.
"And I guess that's pretty much all for now." Seeing that she had pretty much explained everything Valyr needed to know about the subclass for the meantime, Arcane felt that she shouldn't keep the young man in her realm any longer.
"With the new subclass, I'm sure it won't be long until you reach a far higher level of power than before," said the woman as she gave off a faint smile. "However, that doesn't mean you can neglect your main class. You still have to evolve your class as soon as possible."
"Why would I forget?" Valyr let out a slight chuckle in response, inwardly beginning to think that the quests for his subclass might have another reason as to why it was designed that way. "I'm still curious about the Arcane Consortium, after all."
"Ah, right. How much time has passed since you knocked me out?"
"Around 10 minutes," responded Arcane.
"Isn't that a bit too long?" asked Valyr, his expression that of slight concern.
"That's your problem to solve. Not mine." Arcane shrugged. "After all, I didn't tell you to spend a week and a half comprehending those runes. You decided that yourself."
"Wait…" Hearing her drop a bombshell of a statement, it took a while for the young man to regain his composure. "You're telling me… I've been in this place for over 10 days without me knowing?"
"Would I lie to you?" The woman figuratively raised an eyebrow at him.
At those words, the young man shook his head.
Letting out a faint sigh after that, Valyr went ahead and thanked Arcane once more for the subclass, prompting the latter's earlier expression to finally relax.
Whoosh!
Finally acting upon her earlier thoughts, Arcane proceeded to send Valyr's consciousness back to Veldanyr after exchanging farewells.
Thankfully, the young man was already prepared for the sudden departure.
…
Swoosh!
'That… was less painful compared to the first time.'
Feeling as if he was whizzing through clouds once more, it did not take long for Valyr's consciousness to return back to where it previously was.
Sensing far less pain compared to the first time his consciousness was sent back by Arcane, the young man spent a bit of time further acclimating to his newfound strength before standing up.
"Oh, thank the heavens!" At the same time, Thaelis took note of Valyr awakening, immediately replacing the concern on his face with that of relief. "Are you alright, Ataraxia?"
"I'm fine," replied the young man, giving him an apologetic smile. "I was just caught off guard by the sudden influx of information from the subclass."
"I see…" said Thaelis in return, though he looked at the young man with slight doubt after that.
Although receiving the subclass did indeed contain a sudden influx of information from the knowledge attached to the skills, it wasn't to the extent that it would render an average person unconscious.
Aside from that, he noticed that there was now a certain air surrounding the young man. In a way, it felt as if the young man before him had become more attuned to the energy surrounding them.
'Is it just me… or has Ataraxia changed a bit after falling unconscious?' thought Thaelis to himself because of the observation.
In the end, the man decided not to think about it any further.
After all, he only had to teach the young man before him how to become a spell scribe. Anything that happened after that was already beyond his responsibility.
Once he was sure that the young man was fine, Thaelis then went ahead and checked if Valyr had successfully obtained the subclass before falling unconscious.
After receiving confirmation from the young man, the two soon went on their separate ways, with Valyr thanking Thaelis once more for his help and tutelage over the past couple of days.
Whoosh!
With no other reason to remain in the Mage Guild, the young man went ahead and left the guild as soon as possible, sending a message to Dalton that contained both gratitude and an update regarding his success on obtaining the subclass.
After confirming that the old man received his message, Valyr faintly nodded with a smile as he made his way back to his guild's territory, making use of both stat-boosting skills and his sole movement skill to reduce the travel time as much as possible.
"Now that I've gotten a subclass, the only thing left for me to do is to tie up some loose ends," said the young man to himself, only to then start grinning.
"Once that's done…"
"It's time to finally ascend to Rank 3."
What do you think?
