Chapter 42 - Tong Wenjie Gets Drunk?!

Chapter 42: Tong Wenjie Gets Drunk?!

“Ding-dong!”

As the elevator reached the third floor, Tong Wenjie saw Su Bai standing at the elevator door. Without saying much, Su Bai stepped inside.

Tong Wenjie felt awkward, remembering the last time she got drunk.

Although no longer a young girl, Tong Wenjie managed a smile despite the situation and turned to Su Bai with a casual question.

“Su Bai, where are you headed?”

Su Bai already knew her destination—it was undoubtedly her company’s celebratory banquet.

This banquet, after all, was ultimately being held to thank him. However, Su Bai had no intention of sharing this detail with Tong Wenjie.

“I’m heading there too,” Su Bai replied simply.

“Really? That’s where our company is holding the banquet tonight. Looks like we’re going the same way—shall we go together?”

“Sure, let’s.”

Su Bai didn’t mind tagging along with Tong Wenjie. It was chilly at night, and riding a motorcycle wasn’t exactly the safest option.

The two quickly made their way to Tong Wenjie’s car. She opened the passenger door, and Su Bai slid in without much ceremony. Once seated, Tong Wenjie started the car, and they left Shuxiang Yayuan.

An hour later, they arrived at the venue for the banquet.

After parking, Tong Wenjie noticed her colleagues already waiting outside the hotel. Their boss, Raymond, was standing at the forefront, surrounded by a group of female employees.

Seeing this, Tong Wenjie felt uncomfortable. It seemed as if they were being presented as gifts to the investors.

Regardless of her feelings, Tong Wenjie knew she had to go over quickly. She was already late, a habit that had contributed to her demotion to assistant.

As she got out of the car, Su Bai stepped out from the passenger side.

“Su Bai, I need to head over first. If you need anything, let me know. When you’re ready to leave, give me a call, and I’ll go back with you,” Tong Wenjie said before preparing to walk away.

But just as she moved, Su Bai grabbed her hand.

Surprised, she turned to look at him, puzzled by his actions.

“Let’s go together,” Su Bai said casually, letting go of her hand and walking ahead without looking back.

Tong Wenjie hesitated but eventually followed his lead.

When they reached the hotel entrance, Raymond spotted them immediately. His eyes lit up, and he hurried over, with other employees trailing behind.

To Raymond, Su Bai was nothing short of a saviour. The 300 million yuan second-round financing was already safely in the escrow account. All that remained was Su Bai’s signature for the funds to be transferred to Roland PR’s account.

[300 million yuan: Roughly 42 million USD]

Although Raymond had never met Su Bai in person, he had obtained his contact information and appearance details from their legal counsel.

Seeing Su Bai arrive with Tong Wenjie confused him momentarily, but he quickly approached.

Tong Wenjie braced herself, expecting a scolding for being late.

“Boss, I’m sorry. I promise it won’t happen again—”

Before she could finish, Raymond walked past her and stopped in front of Su Bai.

“Mr. Su, welcome! I’m Raymond, the head of Roland PR. Thank you so much for supporting our company’s financing efforts.”

Tong Wenjie was stunned, barely believing her ears.

Su Bai, however, gave Raymond no face. “Isn’t this a banquet? Let’s get on with it. I need to eat and head back to study.”

“Yes, of course! Jenny, Xiao Jin, take good care of Mr. Su,” Raymond instructed.

Tong Wenjie, planning to follow, was stopped by Raymond.

“Tong Wenjie, wait a moment. What’s your relationship with Mr. Su? How did you two arrive together?”

Still reeling from the revelation that Su Bai was their company’s investor, Tong Wenjie answered truthfully.

“He’s my son’s classmate. We’re renting his house. I just happened to meet him in the elevator and gave him a lift.”

Hearing this, Raymond relaxed.@@novelbin@@

Turning to her, he added, “Tong Wenjie, I know you’ve been struggling financially recently. While your performance has been average, I recognize your capabilities. I’m considering promoting you to Financial Director. What do you think?”

Before she could process this, Raymond walked into the hotel.

At the banquet, Su Bai was the centre of attention as the key investor. However, being a high school student, he refrained from drinking and let the Roland staff enjoy themselves.

Meanwhile, Raymond plied Tong Wenjie with drinks, leaving her slightly tipsy. She approached Su Bai, curious.

“Su Bai, how did you become our company’s investor?”

“Just playing around. Had some spare cash, so I decided to invest,” Su Bai replied nonchalantly.

Tong Wenjie didn’t know how to respond. His reasoning was casual yet oddly convincing.

“I need to use the restroom,” she said before walking off unsteadily.

Su Bai noticed her wobbling gait and realized she’d had too much to drink.

As Tong Wenjie exited, Raymond put down his drink and followed her.

Watching this, Su Bai narrowed his eyes. He could guess what Raymond was up to.
