Chapter 98 98: Into the skies of Kemet
After they had eaten their fill, Sett and the girls wandered through the streets, but something felt off. The town hadn't changed physically—stone-paved roads stretched ahead, lanterns flickered above doorways, and market stalls bustled with trade. Yet, there was a new undercurrent in the air, something restless and unsavory.
Even on familiar streets, the people had changed.
A group of men leaned against a wooden railing, their conversation loud and crass, laughter sharper than before. A merchant, once known for his polite haggling, spat on the ground and cursed at a customer.
People in general were becoming incredibly loose.
They no longer had to fear the law, after all.
Even if they raped, pillaged, or did anything they liked—the only thing stopping them were their fellow men and their own conscience.
Young men leered at women, and as they passed through, Zainah and Zarah attracted an uncomfortable amount of attention.
"Damn, look at her. That sleek body, that clear skin… and that little sister? She's smoking hot as well!" One of the men gawked. "The big sister looks like a hardened Tomb Raider! Shit, shit, shit. Those green eyes. What the fuck, bro?"
Sett ignored them and kept walking, but it happened again in another part of the street.
Again.
And again.
Even Zarah got catcalled.
"Ah, the little girl looks so cute!" someone shouted. "Look at those fierce eyes, almost looks identical. Not to mention the attitude!"
"What the hell man, that's disgusting!"
"Is that man bagging both sisters?" A guy said in envy. "With his face, no wonder they are fine with that. My wife is so ugly but she won't let me find a single mistress."
Sett walked through the crowd, again ignoring the chatter.
"Look, big bro," Zarah said, biting into a big cotton candy. "Everyone is catcalling your little sister and lover here, aren't you mad?"
LOVER? Zainah's face turned red, barely stopping herself from choking on air. Was this girl holding a grudge against her or something?!
Sett merely smiled. "Why should I be mad? Even if I beat them up, others like them will appear. When people are as beautiful as you sisters, it is inevitable that they will be looked at. And it's not like those pig eyes matter anyway."
Zarah pouted. "I still don't like that! I am strong, why should I be bullied?"
A ragged-looking man suddenly staggered forward, grinning. "Hey, hey, twink boy! Fight me! Winner gets the girls! If I lose, I'll suck you off! My whole crew will!"
The crowd turned to watch, and the man, basking in the attention, grew even bolder.
He loved the attention!!!
"Come, come, fight me!"
Sett frowned but didn't break stride.
Zainah and Zarah stiffened, their expressions darkening.
"Should I just destroy them?" Sett muttered.
"That's too much," Zarah whispered. "But this is getting annoying. Should I really go beat them up big bro?"
Sett's eyes glinted, he muttered: "Silver, beat him up without raising a fuss."
Something unseen shifted in the air.
The man lunged forward—then abruptly tripped, crashing face-first onto the pavement. He groaned, trying to get up, but his body wouldn't move. Something heavy pressed down on his back, pinning him. He opened his mouth to scream, but the weight made it impossible to raise his voice.
Sett and the girls walked on.
"I could've handled it myself," Zarah huffed, flexing her small but toned arms. "Didn't build these muscles for nothing."
Sett shook his head. "Never wrestle with pigs."
"Why not?"
"You both get dirty, and the pig likes it."
Both girls paused, processing the words.
"…Big bro, you're really smart," Zarah said, eyes shining. "I like that about you."
Sett smirked. "Me too."
"And you're not pretentious. I like that too."
"Me too."
Zarah nodded in satisfaction.
Zainah was speechless. This guy…
But she had to agree that Sett had a different kind of mind from others. Even considering just this last attack on the palace, it was all so perfectly calculated.
At first, he dared to appear in front of Egrith on top of the city wall even though he was weaker in a fight. He even dared to hug her in front of that unpredictable prince.
That had caused Zainah to feel immense fear.
Sett was playing with fire!
Even if he could fight Egrith, what would he do if the prince joined hands with the Pharaoh to fight him?
But there had been layers to it. Sett did not make a move without planning ahead.
For one, Sett didn't bait Egrith without being strong enough!
He fought Egrith to a near stand still!
His strength had grown from the last fight.
But even if he could do that, Egrith wasn't alone—he had powerful allies like the Pharaoh, his First Brother, and the entire Kemet army.
Any normal person would have been crushed.
But Sett had accounted for that.
When Egrith's ally, the Pharaoh, appeared and Sett fell into a disadvantage, the first layer of his strategy revealed itself. He pointed at the palace—just as it burst into flames. That forced the Pharaoh to retreat, unable to fight with his city burning behind him.
Sett had used his own army to do that.
But to confuse the enemy, he said that this world was going to end. That this flame was a sign for the apocalypse.
Since they already had preconceived notions about a soon-to-come apocalypse, they believed him easily.
Not even stopping to consider that he might be pulling them into a trap of his own.
They panicked, reacting exactly as he wanted.
That caused the Pharaoh and Egrith to move into the palace and Sett followed them from the back. He had been planning to take them out one by one.
Divide and conquer, he had muttered.
He had even isolated Egrith at one point, coming close to finishing him off. Having divided him, cut him off, from his allies.
If Sett had successfully killed Egrith there and then, after absorbing Egrith's Tomb Hearts, he could make Ana grow stronger. That must have been his initial plan. If the anaconda became stronger, he would not have anyone who could fight him remaining in the palace and the rest would have been an easy game for him.
Without a doubt, the Pharaoh and his sons stood no chance against this divide and conquer strategy!
But Sett's army hadn't been able to follow his calculated commands perfectly, thus letting the three people—Pharaoh and his sons—unite against him.
That had been the only reason why Sett had to reveal all his cards.
Lord Burrhen.
It was a fail safe plan. 100% victory.
No matter what, Sett did not have much of a chance to fail big time.
He even kept his abilities hidden from public by fighting the Royals inside their own palace.
Is this strategy? Zainah wondered. That's… quite something.
She felt him take her hand, and she subconsciously tightened her grip.
Sett smiled. "Now that there is no government running this place, it will slowly become a battlefield. Strong people would want to become the kings of this place and weak people will bully weaker people."
Civilization will be taken over by the rule of the jungle for a short time. Though humanity would still flourish among human hearts at the ugliest places.
That was what made things quite interesting.
Human conscience worked even without laws to keep people in check.
"That's… irritating," Zarah said with a pout. "Will all the food stalls close?
Sett's eyes glinted. "Probably yes, riots and such would begin soon enough. That's how it goes. Then someone new will come to power after bloody succession wars."
The girls nodded.
"Well, that might not be the exact case. Anyway, we won't remain here to see that."
The girls blinked.
"Where are we going?"
Sett smirked. "Come, I will show you."
Soon, he stood on the city walls, the waists of both girls in his arms. They leaned against him, he pulled them closer.
"Come out."
Lord Burrhen walked out of a small glowing gateway.
Then, without a word, transformed into a bus-sized Wyrm.
Sett jumped on top of its head with the two ladies.
"We—We…" Zarah stuttered. "We are not going to fly, are we!"
Zainah clutched Sett's shirt. "This…" she said. "Is this safe?"
Sett smirked.
Lord Burrhen spread his enormous wings. Then, with a single powerful beat, they took to the skies.
The girls simply screamed.
Sett laughed.
But even as he flew into the layer of clouds, he only had one thought. It was a thought tinged with unspoken fear.
There were Gods in the Kemet Capital City, he had felt it.
There was an eeriness in that place.
An eeriness that made Sett's heart quiver.
He did not want to go there.
What do you think?
