Chapter 820: Rivals Meet, Particularly Jealous
Chapter 820: Chapter 820: Rivals Meet, Particularly Jealous
“I know,” Lu Jiu knew he would fail. Gu Linxi never saw him as a man, just a brother!
He clenched his fists in frustrated resentment, his handsome face briefly twisted in violence. But in an instant, he took a deep breath, hiding all his emotions behind that beautiful visage.
Gu Linxi didn’t notice his fleeting change as she focused on him, or rather, through him to something else, “Once you’re grown up and enter the society, if you still want a tattoo, I’ll take you to the shop I visited before. But Jiu, getting a tattoo is like branding yourself, once you make the choice, it’s there unless you cut off that patch of skin. So make sure you really want one and think carefully about what you want. Ideally, it should be something very important to you, with a special meaning.”
Lu Jiu gazed at her, wishing he could pull her into his embrace to erase the sadness in her eyes. His veins bulged from the back of his hands as he held back, then seriously said, “I’ll have Xixi’s name tattooed.”
Gu Linxi thought he was joking. The emotions welling up in her chest dispersed as she smiled, “Why would you get my name tattooed? Are you blaming me for restricting you from getting a tattoo?”
“Yeah, I want to tattoo your name over my heart, to remind myself to remember you,” Lu Jiu replied, half-joking and half-serious, the soft light illuminating his profile, his porcelain skin finer than that of most girls.
...
Gu Linxi was speechless for a long while before finally squeezing out, “Just be careful not to let your future girlfriend misunderstand, thinking you have a crush on me.”
“That’s because you always nag me like an old mother, acting like you’re fifty-two even though you’re only twenty-five, always loving to preach like it’s a matter of life and death.”
His unrequited love was so obvious, most girls would have realized by now, but she, she never seemed to pay attention or see it.
She always treated him like a child who couldn’t yet walk on his own!
Gu Linxi, left speechless by his complaints, could not muster a single word of rebuttal, and only after a long while managed to retort, “I still am older than you!”
Lu Jiu was about to counter that she wasn’t much older.
Then a disagreeable cough interrupted them.
“Cough!” Cui Jiangjing, impeccably dressed in a bespoke suit of restrained luxury, its golden threading bespoke his extravagant personality. A hint of a smile hung about his lips, his eyes shining even more.
“I don’t mean to interrupt, but it’s been two minutes since I came in. Could you two please notice this living person here?”
Not this man again!
Lu Jiu’s eyes suddenly darkened as he turned his head to look at Cui Jiangjing, his gaze laden with murderous intent.
Cui Jiangjing met his stare squarely, raised an eyebrow, and stepped forward, “You’re Jiu, right? Mind making me a coffee? I take it without sugar, extra creamer.”
“We don’t have coffee here!” Lu Jiu’s voice was low and defensive, like a little guard dog baring its teeth protectively.
Cui Jiangjing said, “Then, tea. One green tea.”
He looked at the person in front of him filled with hostility and smiled slightly, “You can’t possibly be out of tea too, right? It’s not great if a guest comes over and can’t even get a cup of tea, is it?”
He turned to Gu Linxi, seemingly oblivious to the undercurrents swirling in secret, and said, “I’ll bring you a box of tea next time I come. What kind of tea do you like?”
Lu Jiu’s expression chilled instantly, beating her to the response, “We have tea, no need for you to bring any!”
What do you think?
