Chapter 40 Peak of I final

As they ventured deeper into the dungeon, the air grew thicker and damp, laced with a bitter stench of decay. Twisted roots snaked across the walls, and the stone pathways were slippery with moss, making each step treacherous. Both Leon and Luna moved cautiously, their eyes scanning for movement in the shadows. The faint drip of water echoed in the silence, adding to the tension hanging between them.

Leon could feel the anticipation building within him; they had already uncovered incredible loot, and there was no telling what awaited them in the dungeon's depths. The ring he had given Luna was powerful—almost too powerful—and he had felt a strange energy emanating from it the moment she put it on. It was almost as if the artifact recognized her, binding itself to her with an unsettling ease. But he kept his concerns to himself. After all, he had his own reasons for pushing forward.

"Hey, Leon," Luna whispered as they reached a bend in the corridor. "I think I hear something up ahead."

Leon held a finger to his lips, signaling for silence, and peered around the corner. In the dim light, he could just make out the shape of several shadowy figures. They moved with an unnatural grace, their outlines wavering as though they were not entirely solid.

"Wraiths," Leon muttered under his breath, his eyes narrowing. "It looks like they're guarding something."

Luna gripped her weapon tightly, the new ring on her finger feeling almost warm, as if it were eager for battle. "Do we go for them, or is there another way around?"

Leon considered their options for a moment. "We take them head-on. Wraiths are tricky, but they're vulnerable to holy energy. Use that amulet I gave you to enhance your attacks."

Luna nodded, pulling out the amulet from her pouch. The faint glow of holy light radiated from it, casting a soft golden aura that made the shadows retreat slightly. She could feel the energy pulse through her, amplifying her power and steadying her nerves. With a silent nod from Leon, they both sprang into action.

Luna dashed forward, her blade flashing in the dim light as she struck the first wraith. The creature shrieked, recoiling as the holy energy seared through its ethereal form. Another wraith lunged at her, but Leon intercepted it with a swift slash, his own weapon infused with energy as it cleaved through the creature.@@novelbin@@

The battle was intense, each wraith a whirl of darkness and ghostly howls as it attacked with claws of shadow. Luna moved with a newfound agility, the ring enhancing her reflexes as she danced around her foes, striking with precision. Leon held his ground, his strikes methodical and controlled, each swing of his sword calculated to maximize damage.

As the last wraith dissolved into wisps of shadow, they both took a moment to catch their breath. Luna wiped a bead of sweat from her forehead, her gaze shifting to a large, ornate door at the end of the corridor. Intricate carvings of ancient symbols adorned its surface, and the faint glow of purple light seeped through the cracks around the frame.

"Looks like we found the boss room," Leon said, his tone one of grim satisfaction.

Luna's eyes sparkled with excitement. "Finally! Let's finish this and claim whatever treasures it's guarding."

Leon raised an eyebrow. "Remember, this isn't just about loot. Dungeon bosses are dangerous, and we don't know what kind of creature we're dealing with. Stay focused."

"Don't worry about me." Luna smirked, a playful glint in her eyes. "Just don't get in my way."

Together, they pushed open the heavy doors, which creaked ominously as they swung open. The room beyond was vast and cavernous, with walls lined in twisted vines and dark crystal formations jutting out of the ground. At the center of the room stood a massive throne, carved from obsidian and inlaid with runes that pulsed with a dark, foreboding energy.

Sitting upon the throne was a figure draped in tattered robes, its skeletal hands gripping the armrests tightly. Its eyes glowed with a malevolent red light, and as it noticed the intruders, a sinister grin spread across its hollow face.

"Welcome, foolish mortals," it rasped, its voice echoing through the chamber like the sound of bones scraping together. "You have come far, but your journey ends here. I am Mortius, Lord of Shadows. And I shall consume your souls!"

Leon and Luna exchanged a quick glance, their expressions hardened.

"Ready?" Leon whispered, tightening his grip on his sword.

Luna nodded, a determined smile on her face. "Let's end this."

With a deafening roar, Mortius raised a bony hand, summoning waves of dark energy that pulsed outward, causing the ground to tremble. Shadows coalesced around him, forming into twisted figures that moved with unnatural speed, their glowing red eyes fixated on Leon and Luna.

Leon charged forward, his sword blazing with energy as he slashed through the nearest shadow creature. Luna followed closely, her blade moving with a deadly grace as she struck at Mortius's summoned minions, each swing dispelling the dark energy that bound them.

Mortius watched their approach, an amused expression on his face as he raised his other hand. A dark orb of energy formed in his palm, crackling with malevolent power.

"Take this O Foolish Mortal!" he hissed, launching the orb at Leon.

Leon barely had time to react, diving to the side as the orb exploded where he had been standing, sending a shockwave through the room. The force of the blast knocked Luna off her feet, but she quickly recovered, her eyes blazing with anger.

"Now you've done it!" she growled, charging at Mortius with renewed fury.

Leon joined her, the two of them launching a relentless assault on the dark lord. Luna's attacks were swift and fierce, each strike infused with the power of the ring and the amulet, her blade glowing with holy light as she slashed at Mortius. Leon's movements were precise and controlled, his every move designed to exploit Mortius's weaknesses.

But Mortius was no ordinary foe. Each time they landed a hit, his form would shift, dissipating into shadows only to reform a few feet away. He laughed, a cold, mocking sound that grated on their nerves.

"Fools! You think you can defeat me? I am eternal! I am darkness incarnate!"

Luna gritted her teeth, her frustration mounting. "We need a new strategy. He's too quick!"

Leon nodded, his mind racing. "We need to bind him somehow… keep him from shifting away."

His gaze fell on the dark crystals lining the walls, an idea forming in his mind. "Luna, distract him for a moment!"

Without hesitation, Luna lunged at Mortius, her attacks wild and unpredictable, forcing him to focus on her. Meanwhile, Leon dashed to the nearest crystal, channeling his mana into it, hoping his hunch would pay off.

As the crystal absorbed his energy, it began to glow, a faint hum resonating through the room. Leon felt a surge of power as the crystal linked with its counterparts, forming a web of energy around Mortius.

Mortius sensed the trap too late. Shadows began to swirl around him, his form flickering as he struggled to escape the web of energy.

"No! What is this?!" he roared, his voice laced with desperation.

Leon smirked. "Your end."

With Mortius temporarily bound, Luna took her chance, unleashing a powerful attack that pierced through his chest. Mortius shrieked, his form disintegrating as the light from Luna's weapon dispelled the darkness within him.

As the last remnants of Mortius faded, the room fell silent. A soft glow appeared where he had once stood, revealing a pile of treasures that sparkled in the dim light.

They exchanged a glance, a shared sense of victory and relief washing over them.

"We did it," Luna whispered, a weary smile on her face.

Leon nodded, breathing heavily. "Yeah… we did." He reached down, picking up one of the treasures—a glowing gemstone with a faint pulsing light within it.

The system notifications began to appear, listing their rewards:

[Epic Item: Darklight Gemstone]

[Artifact: Mortius's Cloak of Shadows]

[Legendary Consumable: Elixir of Eternal Night]

Seeing yet another set of artifacts, Leon couldn't help but shake his head. In his original world, the chance of finding items like these was incredibly low, as most dungeons there had been raided countless times, unlike here, where they were left untouched for ages. "I hope I can take some of the loot from here with me," he thought, knowing that not everything from trial worlds could be taken back to the real one.

[Rest assured, Leon, all the items provided by the system can be retained by the Host in any world,] Cherry's voice chimed softly in his mind, making him smile as he mentally thanked her.

As they gathered their loot, both Leon and Luna felt a renewed sense of purpose. The dungeon had tested them, pushing them to their limits, but they had emerged victorious.

"Ready to head back?" Leon asked, glancing at her.

Luna nodded, slipping the new cloak over her shoulders. "Let's go. I think we've earned a long rest."

Together, they made their way back through the dungeon, the weight of their victory and newfound power filling them with excitement for the challenges that lay ahead.

'With this loot, I will now be peak of Tier I' Leon thought as she came out of Dungeon and began to get ready to absorb the sources.
