Chapter 17 - 17 17 What University Can She Get Into
Chapter 17: Chapter 17: What University Can She Get Into? Chapter 17: Chapter 17: What University Can She Get Into? “I understand,” Lu Youxi said, covering her neck; her voice had returned to calm, “I was presumptuous this time.”
Zhou Shuyan was somewhat surprised.
Lu Youxi was really very receptive to advice.
Her quick admission of her mistake had left him with prepared words that he couldn’t say anymore.
A sensation of being choked welled up in Zhou Shuyan’s throat, even bringing a hint of frustration.
“Let’s go,” he muttered, turning around and walking away.
Lu Youxi’s lips curled slightly as she followed him.
He had definitely prepared a whole bellyful of words to educate her just now.
But she had truly realized her mistake this time, acknowledging her presumptuousness.
However, it was also because she believed that Zhou Shuyan would not harm her.
Soon, Zhou Shuyan had escorted Lu Youxi to the gate of the Lu Family’s courtyard.
Lu Youxi had wanted to wish him goodnight, but felt it was too strange to say so.
Thus, Lu Youxi ended up saying nothing and silently entered the gate.
Zhou Shuyan watched the Lu Family’s gate close and then headed to Grandma Xu’s house.
Lu Youxi quietly returned to her room, tidied up briefly, changed her clothes, and got into bed.
She lay with her eyes open, staring at the ceiling. Although the room was damp and dark, a bit of moonlight still managed to seep in at night, casting a pale light on the slightly moldy ceiling.
Lu Youxi’s thoughts drifted, and she couldn’t help but think back to the moment at Grandma Xu’s doorstep when Zhou Shuyan had approached her with a mix of testing and intimidation.
She couldn’t resist stretching a hand out from under the covers, her fingers lightly pinching her ear as if the warmth of Zhou Shuyan’s breath still lingered there.
Then, she covered her neck, where it seemed the warmth of Zhou Shuyan’s palm and fingertips remained.
Lu Youxi sighed and thought to herself that she really shouldn’t get too involved with this man.
From her experience and understanding of people in her past life, she felt that Zhou Shuyan was no simple character.
He wouldn’t stay long in Hexing Village and surely had some secrets; he wasn’t an ordinary person.

The next morning, after finishing her chores, Lu Youxi prepared to head to the entrance of the village.
She calculated the time, thinking the acceptance letter should be arriving these days.
Since yesterday, she had been estimating the courier’s arrival time and waiting at the village entrance to see if the admission notice would come.
When she guessed the courier was about to arrive, she prepared to go again.
Old Madam Lu saw Lu Youxi heading out and yelled, “Big girl, where are you off to again?”
Lu Youxi pursed her lips and said, “I’m just going to the village entrance to check.”
“What are you doing at the village entrance every day? Hoping to pick up a man?” Old Madam Lu spat out her nasty words with full malice, “There’s so much work to do at home, and you run off to slack?”
“Grandma, the acceptance letters are supposed to arrive these days.” At that moment, a girl about Lu Youxi’s age passed by the doorway and stepped over the high threshold into the Lu household.
Lu Youxi glared coldly at her smirking cousin, Lu Youzhen.
Lu Youzhen was half a year younger than her; due to their birthdays, she started school a year later than Lu Youxi.
She would only be starting her senior year after the summer break.
“Big sister, which prestigious university did you apply to? Running to the village entrance every day, waiting eagerly?” Lu Youzhen’s eyes gleamed with derision and mocking as they curved into crescents.
Indeed, Lu Youxi had good academic performance, and it was no suspense that she could get into a university.
But getting into a university and getting into Jing University, the top university in Hua Country, were not the same.
So what if Lu Youxi got into a university?
She still wouldn’t compare to her brother.
“Get into a university? What university could she get into?” Old Madam Lu scoffed with disdain, “If it’s not Jing University, attending any other university is a waste of money. A girl like you should just wait obediently to get married.”
The neighbor, Aunt Lin, was throwing out a bucket of dirty water in the yard. Hearing the noise from the Lu Family, she zealously climbed the ladder, peering over the wall between the two houses, and chimed in like she was watching a drama, “Right, your Youxi is applying to university this year. Getting into university is a good thing, even if it’s not Jing University, getting into any other university is still good.”
“Who needs an ordinary university graduate? Just a waste of money!” Old Madam Lu rolled her eyes, “It’s better to stay home and get married, live a good life!”
“And what university could she get into anyway? Everyone thinks they can be like our Youbang, getting into Jing University?” Old Madam Lu disdainfully glanced at Lu Youxi, “Don’t embarrass yourself by saying that out loud! Just stay home and work properly!”
“I actually did apply to Jing University,” Lu Youxi said loudly, “So Youbang brother isn’t the only university student from our village.”
“Pah! Shameless brat!” Old Madam Lu spat, “I’m embarrassed for you! You, getting into Jing University? How dare you even say it? You’ll be disgraced if you don’t get in!”
“Whether I get in or not, we’ll know when the admission letter arrives,” Lu Youzhen interjected, watching the excitement, “Big sister has been waiting for the courier every day, right? I see she hasn’t received anything yet; probably no hope there.”
“Lu Youxi, stop shouting about applying to Jing University and embarrassing the Lu Family!” Uncle Lu, holding a cigarette, came out just in time to hear Lu Youxi and Lu Youzhen’s exchange and spoke displeasedly, “What university are you applying to? Our family doesn’t have the money to send you to university. Just wait to get married for me!”
“Uncle, that’s not something you can just say,” the neighbor spoke again, “Our village has only Youbang as a university student so far. Even if Youxi doesn’t get into Jing University, getting into another university is still good! Hua Country isn’t just made up of Jing University.”
Lu Youxi lips twitched; Aunt Lin, the neighbor, always liked gossip, especially since she lived close to their family, she knew the Lu family’s gossip very well.
Unexpectedly, she could actually thank Aunt Lin for her help this time.
“If she gets into Jing University like Youbang, then I’ll agree for her to go to university, otherwise, it’s just wasting money!” Uncle Lu knocked his smoking pipe against the wall decisively.
“Uncle, I have to disagree with that.”
Before Aunt Lin could finish, Old Madam Lu interjected, “Xiao Lin, this is our family’s matter, what are you meddling for?”
Aunt Lin was about to get angry when Lu Youxi spoke up, “Grandpa, Grandma, if I get into Jing University, you’ll let me go to university, right?”
“You really think you can get into Jing University?” Old Madam Lu looked at Lu Youxi contemptuously. “That’s Jing University! Can you just talk your way in?”
“You don’t need to worry about that; I’m just asking if I get in, can I go?” Lu Youxi smiled, “Actually, I don’t even need to ask for your permission. The money for university comes from my parents, not from Grandpa and Grandma; why would you have a say in whether I go or not?”
What do you think?
