Chapter 136: 135 Welcome to Hell
Chapter 136: 135 Welcome to Hell
In the fifth-floor lobby, the only light was from an old-fashioned lampshade above the elevator doors, where several unnamed moths collided with the cover, creating crisp sounds that echoed in the dim surroundings.
“Gulp.”
Shao Zifeng, watching the fat man on the ground twist and convulse, swallowed hard. What was happening before his eyes was shattering his understanding of the world once more.
A normal person taking a full hit from the Wind and Lightning had no chance of survival, and his injuries should not have allowed him to be alive, yet he was still struggling to get up.
The Chasing Moon Dog hunkered down and stepped back cautiously, watching the fat man on the ground with a threatening growl.
Niu Feng’s obese body twisted as he lifted his charred face. His vocal cords must have been damaged because, when he opened his mouth, which had been torn by electricity, he roared, yet no sound came out.
He seemed to have little interest in Shao Zifeng but turned his head instead, his white bulging eyes fixed on the elevator button as if it held some great allure for him.
The fat man propped himself up with his hands, struggling to rise, but his charred fingers, brittle as rotting wood, snapped one by one. He instantly lost balance, and his head hit the ground with a heavy thud.
Crack.
The crisp sound of breaking made Shao Zifeng shiver; he saw the fat man’s head roll off his neck.
His contorted body slumped to the ground, lifeless, while not far away, his head, mouth agape towards the elevator, continued to open and close, a terrifying sight.
As Shao Zifeng let out a sigh of relief, he felt an even greater dread towards whatever was in the elevator, “Chasing Moon Dog, Moon Blade.”
“Wu!”
The Chasing Moon Dog responded with a snarl, its muzzle wrinkled to reveal sharp fangs. A silvery white glow coalesced into the shape of a blade at the corner of its mouth. With a shake of its head, the silver blade shot out like an arrow from the string, burying itself into the fat man’s head.
The hideous expression on the fat man’s face froze, and a fine line surfaced before his head split slowly in two.
“Chasing Moon Dog, we…”
Just as he thought the ordeal was over and prepared to leave with the Chasing Moon Dog, a light flickered in the corner of his eye, spinning wildly.
Shao Zifeng’s pupils shrank as a wisp of black mist rushed towards him with the speed of thunder.
The Chasing Moon Dog, its eyes showing urgency, opened its mouth wide to bite the mist, but before it could close its jaws, the mist disappeared into Shao Zifeng’s forehead as if teleported.
Shao Zifeng’s body trembled slightly; he stood there stunned, his facial expressions flickering unpredictably, sometimes blank, sometimes wild, sometimes showing struggle.
“Woof!”
The Chasing Moon Dog circled anxiously, barking at Shao Zifeng several times, its voice echoing in the empty lobby.
Gradually, the look of struggle on Shao Zifeng’s face waned, a trail of black air flashed across his eyes, and his mouth slowly curled into a sinister smile.
The Chasing Moon Dog stepped back a few paces, hunkered down with its fur standing on end, its silvery grey eyes fixed on “Shao Zifeng,” emitting a menacing growl from its throat.
“Shao Zifeng” paid no mind to the Chasing Moon Dog, stiffly rotated his neck, lifted his palm and squeezed it a few times as if acquainting himself with this new body, eventually expressing satisfaction.
With a weird smile on his face, he looked towards the elevator door and stepped in that direction.
“Woof!”
The Chasing Moon Dog dashed forward, blocking “Shao Zifeng’s” path,
“Shao Zifeng” halted, tilted his head to look at the Chasing Moon Dog, his smile growing more twisted. Suddenly, he lifted his leg and kicked at the Chasing Moon Dog’s head.
The Chasing Moon Dog’s silvery grey eyes flashed as it bared its teeth, instinctively wanting to bite, but in the end, it restrained its instinct and stood there dazed, taking a harsh kick to the head.
The Chasing Moon Dog staggered back from the blow, shook its dazed head, and whimpered softly.
Though Shao Zifeng’s physical condition had been enhanced by the “Bonding Reaction,” he was still merely human; his all-out kick only caused limited damage to the Chasing Moon Dog.
“Get… away!”
“Shao Zifeng” cocked his head and spoke slowly, his tone and rhythm of speech were peculiar, as if he hadn’t spoken for a long time.
“Woof!”
The Chasing Moon Dog took a few steps forward, blocking his path once again, lifting its head to look at him with silver-grey eyes, its gaze firm and unwavering.
“Ungrateful… creature.”
Bang!
The Chasing Moon Dog reeled back a few steps, its slender body trembling, but it still stood its ground without yielding.
“Do you… want to die,” his face flashed with a hint of rage as he lifted his leg to kick at the Chasing Moon Dog’s head again.
The Chasing Moon Dog looked at him calmly, unflinching.
Boom.
“Aaaaahhhhh!!!!”
Just then, a crimson blaze erupted violently above Shao Zifeng’s head, his movement suddenly froze, and a sharp, agonized scream echoed from the void.
The crimson tongues of fire exploded, writhing like serpents over his entire body, soon devouring him entirely.
The Chasing Moon Dog backed away a few steps from the scorching heat, its silver-grey eyes reflecting the flames, showing concern.
“Aaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!”
The screams continued, and as the flames roared, wisps of black smoke spiraled up from them.
Shao Zifeng’s body writhed wildly on the ground, but as time passed, the contortions grew weaker until he lay motionless.
The flames continued to burn until they gradually died out minutes later.
Shao Zifeng was seen lying on the ground, still emitting wisps of white smoke from his body.
“Woo~”
The Chasing Moon Dog approached, braving the heat with its sensitive nose, nudging Shao Zifeng’s body, trying to turn him over.
Shao Zifeng’s body trembled slightly, his arm shot out like lightning, gripping the Chasing Moon Dog’s neck and lifting his head to reveal a sinister smile, “Fire… element, not a bad… Bonding power. Pity… you can’t maintain it… for long.”
No sooner had he spoken than his face twisted in pain; his eyes cleared considerably. He looked at the Chasing Moon Dog, whose neck was clutched, and said through gritted teeth, “Let it go, whatever you have… take it out on me!”
Before he finished speaking, his expression changed again, the corners of his mouth slightly lifting: “Oh? You… have been here… before, haven’t you… In these past few days… how will you repay… the blood meals you’ve ruined.”
“Also… I don’t want… to kill it, it is… seeking its own death.”
Control shifted back to Shao Zifeng, he feigned hesitation and said resignedly, “I am already under your control, just let it go, and I will follow you.”
Meanwhile, Shao Zifeng took the opportunity to initiate an Empathy Link with the Chasing Moon Dog.
With his soothing, the Chasing Moon Dog’s emotions gradually steadied, paying close attention to Shao Zifeng’s emotional fluctuations.
Having done all this, Shao Zifeng breathed a sigh of relief. Through the fire element’s sneak attack, he realized that this entity could only control his body, not his mind, which is why he dared to use empathy boldly.
“Shao Zifeng” slowly released his grip, the Chasing Moon Dog stepped back a few paces, looking back at Shao Zifeng with reluctance, barked twice at him, then turned and ran toward the stairwell entrance.
After the Chasing Moon Dog’s figure vanished into the corridor, he got up and walked to the elevator, pressing the button. After a grating noise that set one’s teeth on edge, the elevator doors slowly opened.
The dim elevator lighting flickered on and off, a chilling breeze rushing forward.
His mouth curled into a smile, he murmured to himself, “Welcome… to… hell.”
What do you think?
