Chapter 98 - 97: Recovery of the Nine-tailed Demon Fox
Chapter 98: Chapter 97: Recovery of the Nine-tailed Demon Fox
Chen Zhenglong stood by Luo Feng’s side, watching the movements of the Split-eyed Demon Spider. From time to time, he glanced back in the direction Shao Zifeng had left, worrying silently.
They had been walking for almost ten minutes, and there had been no movement from Yang Qian’s end, nor any sign of where Zifeng had run off to.
“Coo”
In the darkness, the sound of flapping wings carried through as a pigeon-like pet beast with a body about thirty centimeters in size, completely snowy white with two long red feathers drooping over pitch-black eyes, gently landed on Chen Zhenglong’s raised arm.
“Blood Feather, didn’t I ask you to help Zifeng? Why have you come back?” Chen Zhenglong chastised, somewhat displeased.
This was Chen Zhenglong’s initial pet, the Cloud Pigeon. When he was younger, he believed his pigeon was different from others, a brave and combative one, thus he had named it so.
...
Unfortunately, the Cloud Pigeon’s talents were limited. After evolving once, it reached the third tier, but since then, it had not advanced an inch.
Latterly, he had acquired the Golden Crowned Black Feathered Eagle and because their roles overlapped, the Cloud Pigeon came out even less, spending most of its time alone in the pet space.
Now, with the Black Feathered Eagle injured and the Dancing Ape following Yang Qian on a mission,
Zifeng’s solo departure was unsettling for him, so he had sent the Cloud Pigeon to covertly protect him. However, it had unexpectedly returned alone soon after, which inevitably led to some resentment.
“Coo coo!” Sensing its master’s displeasure, the Cloud Pigeon appeared somewhat anxious, shaking its head and flapping its wings, gesturing something to Chen Zhenglong.
“Are you saying Zifeng’s pet is stronger than you, and you wanted to come back to protect me?” After all these years as partners, Chen Zhenglong quickly understood the Cloud Pigeon’s message.
“Coo!” The Cloud Pigeon nodded uneasily, fearing its master would be displeased and send it back to the pet space again; it truly wanted to stay by its master’s side.
Chen Zhenglong patted his own head, indeed, concern could lead to chaos; mutant creatures, especially dragon-types, were by no means weak.
Looking at the anxious Cloud Pigeon, he felt a bit guilty and held it close, gently stroking its pristine feathers, as he had done in the old days: “You’ve worked hard, Blood Feather.”
Upon hearing this, the Cloud Pigeon’s eyes reddened, nearly bursting into tears.
…
A strange scene emerged on the battlefield left behind by the Nine-tailed Demon Fox. The Split-eyed Demon Spider trembled as it moved towards the center of the field, roaring and bombarding everywhere.
The Blood-sucking Tarantula herd followed closely behind the demon spider, except for the occasional purple claw marks that appeared beneath it, there were no signs of the enemy.
“Hiss!!!”
Purple claw marks appeared again, and a Blood-sucking Tarantula hissed as it dived under the Split-eyed Demon Spider, instantly being sliced into pieces.
In the shadows, Zhenglong dodged the exploding debris expertly, breathing heavily, almost out of energy.
Looking back in the direction his master had left, Zhenglong bared his teeth and vanished into the darkness again.
…
Yang Qian stood on the edge of the battlefield, leaning against a water tank to conceal his figure. After making sure he wouldn’t be detected, he carefully lit a cigarette, deeply inhaled, and closed his eyes in bliss.
Boom.
A death ray, shining with a black and purple luster, indiscriminately bombarded the area, blowing a big hole in the nearby residential building. Debris sprayed around Yang Qian’s feet, clicking as they bounced off.
Yang Qian smacked his lips, secretly wondering when Zhenglong had become so capable; had he overlooked it before?
“Ao!”
The Dancing Ape, holding the Nine-tailed Demon Fox, stood by, stretching its furry hand in front of Yang Qian in a scissors gesture. @@novelbin@@
Startled, Yang Qian then laughed and pulled the last cigarette from the pack, lit it, and handed it to the Dancing Ape.
The Dancing Ape took the cigarette, mimicking Yang Qian’s actions by holding it between its thick lips and drawing in fiercely.
Suddenly, a red glow lit up the darkness, and the Dancing Ape inhaled the cigarette down to the butt without blowing smoke rings, continuing to watch Yang Qian hopefully.
Yang Qian kicked it lightly, shaking his head helplessly, and with reluctance, handed over the half-smoked cigarette left in his hand to the Dancing Ape.
“We’ve smoked it all, let’s start the operation,” Yang Qian quietly said, patting the Dancing Ape’s face as it still played with smoke rings.
“Ao!”
The Dancing Ape nodded, hugging Yang Qian’s waist with one hand, and after a few leaps between buildings, skillfully landed on the ground.
At that moment, they had circled around to the rear of the Split-eyed Demon Spider. Yang Qian looked at the pile of rubble in front of him, his fingers trembling involuntarily a few times.
Below it were buried young people not even as old as his daughter. If it weren’t for saving them, none of this would have happened…
Thinking this, Yang Qian, with slightly reddened eyes, straightened his wind-tousled hair and adjusted his tattered uniform, solemnly saluting the pile of stones.
The Dancing Ape placed the Nine-tailed Demon Fox where they had previously arranged and walked up beside Yang Qian, copying his salute in a somewhat clumsy manner before tugging at Yang Qian’s sleeve.
Yang Qian came back to his senses and instinctively wiped the tears from the corner of his eye.
He opened a Space Rift, and a weakened Stone-armored Giant Rhinoceros stepped out.
It hung its head low, its steps shaky, as if it could fall over at any moment.
“Hang in there a little longer, old pal,” Yang Qian quickly approached and patted the Stone-armored Giant Rhinoceros on the neck.
“Mmm!”
The Stone-armored Giant Rhinoceros let out a weak, low moan. It knew its mission this time. Its pupils faintly emitted a yellow glow, and the sand and stones attached to the Nine-tailed Demon Fox’s body began to lose their strength and fell away.
Meanwhile, a watermelon-sized stone formed in front of the Stone-armored Giant Rhinoceros, hovered and spun in the air for a moment, then flew like a bullet toward the Demon Spider.
After doing all this, Yang Qian swiftly retracted the Stone-armored Giant Rhinoceros, and the Dancing Ape scooped him up by the waist.
They climbed a building using their hands and feet, leaped down, and disappeared into the darkness.
…
“Snap!”
The stone hit the back of the Split-eyed Demon Spider’s head, its eyes in the back not even having time to lock onto the target.
The Split-eyed Demon Spider, amid chaotic explosions, stopped moving instantaneously. Its eight eyes flashing with a bloody madness, it slowly turned its head back.
The fangs beside its mouthpiece flipped, and strands of black-purple essence quickly gathered and condensed.
The freed Nine-tailed Fox twitched slightly, its body surrounded by flames mixed with red and black particles.
Boom.
A purple-black column of light tore through the darkness, striking the Nine-tailed Demon Fox hard.
After the explosion, the Split-eyed Demon Spider looked at the dust filling the air nearby, showing a satisfied expression.
It lifted a forelimb, piercing two Blood-sucking Tarantulas and bringing them to its mouthpiece in an instant.
Juices splashed for a moment.
Suddenly, it froze in place, its back tumor spinning violently, a deadly sense of threat looming over it.
Hisss.
Flames erupted around it without warning, the red flames twisted with black particles, emitting an ominous aura.
“Hiss!! Hiss! Hiss!!”
The surrounded Blood-sucking Tarantulas screamed in panic, continually rolling in the sea of fire.
The Split-eyed Demon Spider stared intensely at the cloud of smoke churning in the flames, slightly elevating its abdomen, its several tumor eyes spinning, trying to lock onto a target.
“Boom.”
The flames surged again, even making the Split-eyed Demon Spider feel uneasy.
Amid the flames and smoke, nine defiant tails wildly waved around.
…
Shao Zifeng’s pupils reflected a sheet of red, his hand holding the hidden blade trembling slightly.
The real show was about to begin.
What do you think?
