Chapter 104: After Maths and The Call of the Second Wave

For a heartbeat, the entire harbour was bathed in blinding radiance. The monstrous creature's core, that pulsating orb of regenerative power, shuddered violently under the onslaught.

Its tentacles slowed, and the furious energy that had sustained it began to wane. The combined assault of Ember slash and flames, frost fire, hellfire, and the soul Slasher dagger's precise incursion proved too much for the beast's unyielding regenerative might.

As the Flames converged, the creature let out one final, earth-shattering bellow—a sound that resonates deep within the hearts of all who fought to protect their city. With a violent shudder, its massive form convulsed, and the regenerative glow of its core dimmed.

Slowly, inexorably, the beast's hulking bulk body began to collapse. Tentacle by tentacle, it receded into the seawater, churning the abyss from which it had emerged, its final roars fading into a mournful echo carried away by the wind.

[Ding! System notifications: Sea creature defeat.

Reward: An evolved sea Beast core. (Collect)

The host can collect the sea creature's soul for the Soul Slasher dagger. Or give it to Nima the Soulbinder.]

[Do you want to collect the soul?]

[YES/NO]

"Yes. Collect the soul. I decided later about the fate of this sea beast's soul."

For several long, excruciating moments, silence fell over the harbour. The only sounds were battle-weary defenders' laboured breathing and waves' gentle lapping against the scarred docks. In that moment of stillness, the magnitude of what had been accomplished—and the cost of the struggle—seemed to hang suspended in the cool morning air.

Then, as if on cue, a ripple of triumphant cheers began to rise from the assembled ranks of Azure Bay City's defenders. The surreal amalgam of battle cries, humorous banter, and earnest gratitude filled the harbour. Yet, there was no room for lingering darkness in that triumphant clamour—only the fierce, unyielding light of victory.

Kent, his arms trembling with both exhaustion and exhilaration, lowered his soul Slasher dagger. Though rimmed with sweat and streaked with the remnants of fury, his eyes burned with quiet satisfaction.

The monstrous sea creature—once a seemingly invincible force of nature—was finally defeated. Its threat had been staved off, if only for now, by the indomitable will and unconventional might of a single warrior and his allies.

The harbour fell silent as the last vestiges of the creature's agonized roars faded into the gentle murmur of the receding tide. And in that silence, the victory was absolute, the battle complete.

Though battered and exhausted, the Watchers and Azure Guard exchanged glances of grim satisfaction. They had faced a nightmare from the deep and, for now, held it at bay.

The law enforcement lady, Sergeant Sparkle, looks at Kent, her armour dented and eyes burning with determined gratitude. "Your arrival turned the tide. We owe you a debt of gratitude," she said respectfully and resolutely.

Kent offered a modest nod. "I did what I had to. But there's no time to rest— the city needs us now. There are many who didn't make it. Many were injured. I have to go find my little sister."

"Time to head back," Kent said, his voice resolute as he surveyed the recovering harbour. "We need to consolidate our forces and tend to the wounded. Our work isn't done here."

The sun had climbed higher in the sky(noon) by the time the battle with the monstrous sea creature had subsided, leaving the harbour eerily quiet in its wake. Though the fight had been fierce, the aftermath felt strangely hollow as his mind shifted from the chaos to the next task at hand: finding Nima and Auri.

With the city's citizens beginning to regroup after the storm of chaos, Kent's steps were swift as he made his way through the town, a strange sense of dread creeping into his chest. "Where could they be? They are supposed to be at the makeshift camp…."

As he passed by shops and vendors, his eyes scanned every corner, finally catching sight of a familiar pink flash from inside a supermarket.

Inside the supermarket, Nima and Auri were thoroughly immersed in a frenzy of eating. The bright neon sign overhead declared: FREE SAMPLES - EAT YOUR FILL! and both of them were shamelessly taking full advantage of the offer.

Nima had an arm full of skewered meats, tiny cups of salad, and freshly sliced fruits piled high. She was engrossed in her gluttonous feast, completely oblivious to the shocked expressions of the other people who were hiding inside because of the sea monster attack.

Auri, on the other hand, was busy devouring every type of soft drink and a slice of cheese and cracker he could find. His face lit up with glee as if he had discovered a hidden treasure chest.

The storekeeper, an elderly man with wide eyes and a tremble in his voice stood frozen behind the counter, unable to take his gaze off them. His face was a portrait of confusion as if trying to come to terms with the spectacle before him. "Kid! A monster is attacking the city!" he finally managed, his voice desperate. "We need to leave now!"

Without looking up, Nima waved her hand dismissively, a piece of fruit hanging from her mouth as she spoke around it. "My big brother is fighting the sea monster, and he is a national hero! Don't worry about it. Just give me that free sample, please!"

Other people make many comments-

One: She is eating like she has been hungry for years.

Two: I think it's her guardian's fault…not teaching her manners. Explore new worlds at My Virtual Library Empire

Three: Look at that fat bird. I have never seen a fat crow like this.

Four: I think this girl is panic-eating because of the sea monster.

Kent stood in the doorway, stunned for a moment, before shaking his head in exasperation. His gaze narrowed as he walked in, his footsteps sounding louder than usual in the otherwise quiet shop. With a quick stride, he approached the two of them, his arms crossed, a look of annoyance crossing his face.

Without a word, Kent grabbed both of their ears (Auri's butt feather), tugging them sharply. "What do you two think you're doing? I told you to stay there and not cause any problems!" He scolds them, his voice firm but filled with a mix of disbelief and frustration.

Nima let out a muffled protest, her cheeks puffed out from all the food she had stuffed into her mouth. "Ow! Big brother that hurts! We're fine! It's just some monster. You're here, so we're safe! I was very hungry. I told you to come back soon. But you took so long. We got bored."

Auri, her cheeks now full like a chipmunk, tried to give Kent an innocent look. Chirp! "Yeah, we were hungry, and we found free food!" he grinned, his voice muffled by the crackers he was still chewing.

Kent sighed, rubbing his temples in exasperation. "Seriously, Nima, Auri—don't trouble the storekeeper. The city's in turmoil, and here you are eating everything in sight. Come on, we need to find a hotel."

I AM SORRY EVERYONE. IF MY LITTLE SISTER CAUSE YOU ANY TROUBLE. The sea monster has been defeated. You all can go out.

With one last tug on their ears, Kent started guiding them out of the store, though both continued to glance longingly at the free samples table. The storekeeper let out a relieved sigh, wiping his forehead as if he'd narrowly avoided a catastrophe. Other people sighed in relief. We can go home. The monster is defeated.

As they stepped outside, Kent led them toward the hotel for check-in, still shaking his head in disbelief at their behavior. The pink Barbie suitcase—a rather glaring sight in the midst of the chaos—clinked against the ground as they walked.

Just as they were about to enter the hotel, Kent's phone buzzed. He pulled it out to find an incoming call from none other than Jade Monroe.

With a raised eyebrow, Kent answered the call, the tension in his body still evident from the fierce battle. "What now, Jade?" he asked, his tone tinged with the frustration and exhaustion of the day's events.

A familiar voice crackled through the line. "Bro, I'm sorry—I heard what went down at Azure Bay City. You really helped a lot. Your mission here is over. We've finally pinpointed the problem behind that strange evolution of sea life."

Kent's interest sharpened as he leaned against the hotel wall near the azure beach. "What's the cause? What's going on? Now I can have a peaceful vaccination," he replied, half-joking, half-serious.

"Bro, it's the second spiritual wave. That's what's causing everything," Jade explained quickly. "The sea monster you faced? It's a product of the second wave."

Kent paused, his mind churning as he processed the unexpected news. "What the… a spiritual wave? It's happened twice? Explain it to me properly, man."

There was a brief pause on the other end of the line, and then Jade's tone turned both apologetic and brisk. "Oh—right, I forgot you just joined Nexus and Watcher. Listen, I don't have much time, I will tell you in short."
