Chapter 1246: Enter The Garden (Part 2)
Due to Gary noticing the Werewolves, all of the hunters were prepared for what was to come. They quickly moved, using their devices and striking those coming at them quite well.
Just like before, Saiber was moving swiftly, having ducked under two Werewolves' clawed strikes. Although they were fast, his senses for when the attacks were coming seemed to be on another level.
As he had ducked down underneath, he slashed both of them, leaving deep cuts on their bodies. He quickly stabbed them several times on their backs as well, and in the middle of it all, he was still hurling special devices—mainly electrical shocking ones—from his belt at the other Werewolves, helping the hunters in the group as best he could.
'I really can't fight too much, otherwise my disguise will fall off!' Gary thought as he avoided a few hits and then moved until he was close to a hunter who had taken cover. Gary then saw another hunter nearly being struck and pulled the back of his armor to move the man out of the way, narrowly missing the strike.
'So, this is all I can really do!' Gary thought, as he continued to move around.
Thankfully, though, things were clearing up quite quickly. The hunters fought well as a group, and they were highly skilled. As for the Werewolves, due to their low number when attacking, they were relying on the element of surprise, along with their fast speed.
The hunters had stuck together and were ready, which led to all of the attacking Werewolves falling to the ground and all of the hunters managing to survive.
"Hey, that was a pretty good spot there," one of the hunters commented. Gary noticed it was also one of the hunters he had saved from throwing his sword as well.
"He might have spotted them, but he led us right to the Altereds as well!" another hunter shouted. "And what was with that? I didn't see him swing a single sword or weapon. All I saw him do was move around all over the place."
"Yeah, he was dodging all the attacks but not actually doing anything to help."
"Stop it, guys," another hunter said. This one Gary recognized as well. It was one of the hunters he had pulled out of trouble from the attack hitting him. He thought he might have heard an earful from him as well, but thankfully that wasn't the case.
"There will be Altered in the entire Garden," Saiber added. "The fact that we only met with this many of them is a good sign, and we haven't lost anyone. We should keep moving."
The hunters no longer were arguing amongst each other and instead had decided to continue to move through the Garden. But Gary wanted to say one more thing, and as he went to the front to meet with Saiber, he did.
"We should quicken our pace," Gary suggested. "We need to move more. There are a lot of groups in here, but with us having fought the last ones—"
"It means they'll be coming right for us," Saiber noted.
It wasn't his first time where he had fought against a group of Altered, and judging by the appearance of those they had dealt with, he could tell they were some type of dog or wolf Altered. So their sense of smell would be sharp.
With predator-type Altered forms, there was one type of smell that spread out further compared to others, and that was the smell of blood. As they continued to move again, Gary could notice it.
There was a group moving ahead of them and there was one behind. Both of them were the same size as the group they had just encountered. This was going to be hard for them.
"Turn around!" Gary shouted. "Get rid of those on our tail in the back!"
Saiber turned and looked up front. He then, from his side, pulled out a bolt-action bow and fired away up into the trees. Due to how fast the Werewolves had been moving, now even the hunters could see them through their masks.
The hunters turned to attack, and the Werewolves were leaping from above down onto the ground, using their momentum to fight. The hunters were clashing, fighting with all they had, and even Gary had picked up a sword as he started to swing it at some of the Werewolves.
'This is not good, the situation isn't good at all. There's just going to be too many of them on us at any moment. If there were two five-star hunters, or I didn't hide my identity, maybe I could do something.'
Gary, for a moment, used his full strength as he thrust the sword right from the chin through one of the Werewolves' heads. It was no time to just be dodging. If Gary could help the hunters deal with those behind them, then at least Saiber would have a chance to deal with the Werewolves coming from the front.
'Lupus, just how big is your pack, how many people in this city have you turned?' Gary started to think.
"Saiber, from the front of the path, another group!" Gary shouted without even turning around.
There were a lot of questions as to how Gary had eyes at the back of his head, but there was no time for questions. Saiber turned and could see the group coming towards them. One larger one had leaped from the skies and landed a few meters just by where Saiber was, looking at the group fighting.
As the Werewolf stood upright, Saiber looked at its dark-colored, red-like fur, and on its back, it had a giant axe that was bladed on both sides.
"It's one of the Ironfangs!" Saiber commented. "They weren't meant to be here!"
