Chapter 105 Sky Breaker
Inside a carriage pulled by two big six-legged, horned horse-like creatures, Feng Fan, Qian Xiaoli, and Su Liqiu made their way through the bustling streets of the Qian Empire's capital.
A coachman sat at the front, expertly handling the reins to guide the creatures toward their destination, the Golden Horizon Trade Alliance, located outside the noble's district.
The interior of the carriage was both functional and elegant. Two plush couches faced each other, one on the front side and the other on the back. A window adorned the left wall, offering a view of the lively streets outside, while the right side featured a door for entering and exiting.
Qian Xiaoli and Su Liqiu sat on the front couch. Feng Fan, seated on the back couch, leaned casually against the soft upholstery.
'Why are we taking a carriage?' Feng Fan thought, glancing at Su Liqiu. 'Wouldn't it be faster if she just used her spiritual qi to get us there?' Despite his curiosity, he chose to keep the question to himself.
As they neared their destination, Su Liqiu turned to address both her daughter and Feng Fan one final time.
"Remember, do not leave the Golden Horizon Trade Alliance premises. I'll be here when the auction ends. Don't make me regret allowing you two to come along."
Both nodded obediently, not wanting to risk displeasing Su Liqiu.
A few minutes later, they arrived at their destination and stepped out of the carriage. True to its name, the Golden Horizon Trade Alliance was an enormous structure towering over forty meters high. Its exterior gleamed with golden paint accented by intricate black patterns, exuding an air of opulence and grandeur.
"Follow me," Qian Xiaoli said, not bothering to wait for Feng Fan's response before striding confidently toward the entrance.
A long queue stretched outside the building, with many people patiently waiting for their turn to enter. However, Qian Xiaoli bypassed the line entirely, walking along its side.
A clerk dressed in a sleek black-and-white uniform adorned with a golden plaque on his chest quickly noticed her and approached with a respectful demeanor. The golden plaque on his chest bore his name: Sun De.
"Lady Qian, will you be participating in the auction today? May I escort you to one of our private cabins?" the clerk asked politely.
Qian Xiaoli gave a curt nod in response.
The clerk noticed Feng Fan walking behind Qian Xiaoli and asked, "Is this your companion, Lady Qian?"
"Yes," she replied calmly. "He'll be participating in the auction with me."
The clerk gave a polite nod and turned to lead the way. Qian Xiaoli and Feng Fan followed as he guided them through the venue. The main hall featured a stage at the front, surrounded by rows of seats arranged like an Earth-style theater.
Instead of stopping there, Sun De led them up a staircase to an upper floor lined with private cabins, each designed to shield its occupants from view. Upon reaching the top of the stairs, Sun De stepped aside, allowing Qian Xiaoli and Feng Fan to select a cabin.
"If you require anything, Lady Qian, please don't hesitate to call on me," Sun De said with a respectful bow before descending the stairs, leaving them to settle in.
They sat side by side on the couch, and Qian Xiaoli began explaining the auction's mechanics.
"If you want to bid on an item, just press the button in front of us and state the amount of qi stones you're willing to offer. Keep in mind that each item is tied to a specific grade of qi stones. For example, if an item starts with a base price in middle-grade qi stones, only middle-grade qi stones can be used for that item."
Feng Fan nodded, taking in her instructions. "Got it. Thanks."
As he leaned back slightly, he mentally tallied his resources. 'I have about a hundred and fifty thousand middle-grade qi stones and almost ten million low-grade qi stones. Hopefully, that'll be enough for anything worthwhile that shows up.'
Continue your journey on empire
About half an hour later, once all the participants had taken their seats, a strikingly beautiful young woman stepped onto the stage. Her outfit, revealing enough to be considered more akin to a bikini, left little to the imagination.
It was clear she had been chosen for her looks, likely as a ploy to entice the male bidders into loosening their wallets.
'What a shameless and degenerate tactic,' Feng Fan mused, his thoughts tinged with disdain. 'No different from how real estate companies operate back on Earth.'
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, my name is Wan Yun, and I'll be your hoster today. For our first item, we have a top tier Spiritual sword, crafted by the renowned blacksmith Deng Zhong, hailing from outside the Mao Empire. Many of you are already familiar with the exceptional quality of Deng Zhong's weapons, so there's no need to elaborate further."
At the mention of Deng Zhong's name, murmurs rippled through the crowd.
'It seems Deng Zhong is quite a well-known figure,' Feng Fan thought.
As Wan Yun announced the item, a man dressed similarly to Sun De stepped onto the stage from backstage, carrying a sword which he placed at the center. Feng Fan activated his spiritual qi vision and immediately sensed the powerful aura emanating from the weapon.
"Because Deng Zhong wasn't satisfied with the result, he never gave this weapon a name. However, our Golden Horizon Trade Alliance has decided to call it Sky Breaker. The starting bid for Sky Breaker must be ten thousand middle-grade qi stones," announced Wan Yun.
Despite the sword seeming like a subpar creation from Deng Zhong, the crowd remained euphoric, and soon a fierce bidding war erupted.
"Twenty thousand qi stones!"
"Forty thousand qi stones!"
"Fifty thousand qi stones!"
One bid after another rang out, and Feng Fan couldn't help but think, "Trash to some, treasure to others."
"Sky Breaker sold to the gentleman number 50 for half a million middle-grade qi stones. Please proceed to the backstage to collect the weapon and complete your payment," announced Wan Yun.
What do you think?
