Chapter 189 That's Cheating!

When Feng Fan asked where it was planning to go, realization struck the creature like a lightning bolt. Its eyes widened in shock.

"YOU! How can you ask me two questions in a row? That's cheating!"

Feng Fan's grin stretched wider. "Oh? So you finally noticed? Took you long enough."

Mao Shun, who had moved closer, stared at Feng Fan in disbelief. 'How is he doing this?'

Even though Feng Fan had clearly broken the rules, the creature felt an overwhelming compulsion to answer. The Dao laws forced it to respond, if it resisted, death would come within a minute.

"I'm going to the north side of the village!" it blurted out, unable to hold back.

Watching the creature struggle against its own will, Feng Fan was elated. 'So even if they realize I'm cheating, they can't do a damn thing about it!'

"You're telling the truth," Feng Fan stated casually.

The creature's face twisted in despair as more of its life force drained away, leaving it visibly weaker.@@novelbin@@

"N-No, please! Don't kill me! I'll tell you everything I know!" it pleaded, falling to its knees.

Feng Fan chuckled. "You'll tell me whether you want to or not, little lamb. Now, how do we escape this place without using our life force?"

"I-I don't know," the creature stammered.

But its true thoughts betrayed it. 'Kill the village chief and destroy the core in his house.'

Feng Fan's eyes gleamed. 'So that's the real way out of here.'

"You're lying," he declared without mercy.

The creature's life force drained even faster. Its once bulging muscles withered, leaving it gaunt and frail. One more step, and it would be nothing but a dried husk.

The creature was too weak to even stand. It collapsed onto the ground, the last traces of hope fading from its eyes.

'A-Am I going to die?' it thought, terror gripping its mind.

Feng Fan crouched beside it, his voice low and taunting. "Did you enjoy stealing the life force of others?"

The creature trembled, struggling to speak, but it still answered. "N-No… I just wanted to survive."

Feng Fan's smile widened. "You're lying."

With those words, the last remnants of the creature's life force and cultivation drained away. Its body stilled, lifeless.

Mao Shun stepped closer, his expression uneasy. "Brother Feng, didn't you notice something strange? The energy leaving him and flowing toward you… it felt vile."

Feng Fan raised an eyebrow, slightly surprised. Mao Shun wasn't asking how he had managed to cheat; he was actually concerned about him.

"Ah, so you could sense it, Brother Mao," Feng Fan said, a hint of admiration in his voice.

"Don't worry, I didn't absorb it. This kind of energy shouldn't be allowed inside our bodies. I believe this entire game is a trap. The moment you choose to play, whether you win or lose, you end up like the villagers here, nothing more than disfigured slaves."

Mao Shun let out a relieved sigh. "That's good… but we should warn the girls who came with you as soon as possible. I hope they don't absorb it either."

Feng Fan nodded, though he didn't seem too concerned. "I'm sure they'll realize it on their own. For now, let's head back to the plaza and wait for them. Once we're all together, we'll go north and put an end to this nightmare."

Back at the plaza, Feng Fan and Mao Shun sat on the ground, waiting for Huang Xue, Xue Qiang, and Su Xiaoli to return. Though they hadn't arrived yet, neither of them seemed concerned, the agreed-upon time for their meeting hadn't passed.

As they waited, they observed their surroundings. Most people had already left to search for clues about the village, but a handful remained behind.

Many had taken part in the village's twisted game, and some had paid the ultimate price. Corpses littered the ground, their lifeless bodies a grim of what happened to those who lost. But the worst fate wasn't dying.

It was surviving.

Three individuals, now brimming with life force and enhanced cultivation, were watching Feng Fan and Mao Shun like predators stalking prey. The crazed hunger in their eyes made it clear—they were addicted.

The rush of stolen power had consumed them.

Here, the Dao laws didn't simply transfer life force and cultivation. They corrupted it, tainting the energy before passing it to the victor.

The winner became a slave to their desires.

The loser became a sacrifice.

There were no other paths. Anyone who chose to play by the village's rules was doomed to servitude or death.

And the transformation wasn't just mental. Their bodies were changing, slowly twisting into something inhuman.

Something monstrous.

Feng Fan, however, remained unfazed by their hungry stares. Instead, he smiled, taunting them.

That was all it took.

Lured by the promise of more power, the three figures moved toward them, greed burning in their eyes.

The first man spoke, his tone almost casual. "Who are you?"

Feng Fan smiled politely at him, the kind of smile a con artist gives right before taking everything you have.

"I'm Feng Fan. A pleasure to meet you, senior. What's your name?"

The man grinned. "You are telling the truth!"

But nothing happened.

His grin faltered. Confusion flickered across his face. "Huh?"

Feng Fan tilted his head. "Aren't you going to answer my question, senior?"

His voice was calm, almost gentle—but the man felt something cold crawl down his spine. Feng Fan wasn't just looking at him.

He was sizing him up, like a lion would do to a rabbit.

"M-My name is Xu Tao," the man stammered.

"You are telling the truth," Feng Fan replied.

Xu Tao's face twisted in horror. "NO!" he screamed as his life force and cultivation were ripped away.

The other two, who had been scheming how to take advantage of Mao Shun and Feng Fan, barely had time to react.

Before they could make a move, Feng Fan turned his gaze toward them, his smile never fading.

"And what about you two, seniors?" he asked, his tone light and friendly. "What are your names?"
