Chapter 188 I Want Some Answers… And Your Life!

Mao Shun and Feng Fan walked side by side through the village, the fog so thick it almost reached their knees. Even though it was daytime, the village was dark, with no sunlight breaking through.

"Most of the houses look empty. Where do those people stay?" Feng Fan muttered, more to himself than to Mao Shun.

Feng Fan activated his spiritual qi vision. Almost everything in the village was shrouded in an eerie energy. While he could still sense spiritual qi, his vision wasn't as clear as usual.

Then, he spotted a house and noticed a faint energy reading coming from it.

"Someone's in there. Let's check it out," Feng Fan said to Mao Shun

Mao Shun didn't question how Feng Fan knew someone was inside. He walked up to the house and, even though the door was slightly open, knocked.

Feng Fan was caught off guard. He hadn't expected Mao Shun to knock instead of barging in. Without hesitation, he stepped forward and kicked the door open.

Bang!

The door flew off its hinges, crashing into a table. The force sent both the table and the door sliding across the floor until they hit the wall.

Feng Fan glanced at Mao Shun. "Why would you even knock?"

Mao Shun scratched the back of his neck, embarrassed. He didn't have an answer for his previous action.

Feng Fan chuckled before stepping into the house. With his spiritual qi vision activated, he quickly located his target.

He didn't need to approach, though, the man, if he could even be called that, came to them instead.

A headless figure stood before Feng Fan and Mao Shun. Its skin was non-existent, exposing raw, bulging muscles. On its abdomen, a grotesque face scowled at them.

"Why did you break my door?!" the face demanded.

Feng Fan smiled politely. "The door was too ugly, so I thought I'd help with renovations. A pleasure to meet you. I'm with Renovation Constructions, at your service."

Mao Shun and the grotesque figure stared at him, momentarily stunned by the blatant lie. But the creature recovered quickly, and the face on its abdomen twisted into a grin.

"You're lying!" it declared.

It waited, expecting Feng Fan's life force to be drained and absorbed into its body. But nothing happened.

The creature's grin faltered. 'What's going on? Was he actually telling the truth? Impossible, if that were the case, I should've lost life force.'

Feng Fan's smirk widened. "Since you had your turn, it's mine now."

With a lamb practically throwing itself onto his plate, there was no reason not to feast.

"Where are the others who live in the village?" he asked.

The face on the creature's abdomen visibly gulped. "They're on the north side of the village."

"You're telling the truth," Feng Fan confirmed.

The creature's expression twisted in despair as ten percent of its life force drained away. Even with plenty to spare, the villagers here were addicts—desperate for life force, hoarding it like a drug.

Taking it from them was like stealing cocaine from a drug addict.

"Y-You!" the creature growled. "What do you want here?"

Feng Fan grinned. He sensed the creature in front of him had made a mistake. As long as it asked a question, Feng Fan could ask one in return.

Not that it mattered. Since the creature was alone, Feng Fan decided to drain it dry. Even if he cheated and the creature noticed, what could it do?@@novelbin@@

As long as it didn't escape alive, nothing else mattered.

Mao Shun watched from the side with interest. He was curious about how Feng Fan planned to get answers from the creature. These beings had likely been running this "game" for a long time and weren't easy to deal with.

"I want some answers… and your life!" Feng Fan answered.

The creature trembled. It had always been the hunter, and the people who came here were nothing but prey to play with. But the man in front of him was turning everything upside down! Find more to read at My Virtual Library Empire

"You... You're telling the truth," the creature stammered.

It expected to absorb some of Feng Fan's life force, but to its shock—nothing happened.

'This doesn't make sense! If I was wrong, I should have lost life force. If I was right, I should have gained some. Why is nothing happening again?!'

While the creature spiraled in confusion, Feng Fan paid no mind to its silent panic and pressed on with his questioning.

"Who's the mastermind behind this village?"

The question made the creature tremble, but years of experience helped it regain its composure quickly.

"It's… the village chief, the man who spoke to you all in the plaza," the creature answered, but in its mind, another thought appeared:

'It's a demon god. Only a demon god could be this powerful!'

Feng Fan frowned. 'Demon god? What does that mean?'

He knew someone who could create such complex rules using Dao laws would be anything but ordinary. But what was the purpose of this place? Why use these minions to do the work?

"You're lying," Feng Fan said.

The creature's eyes widened, and its body twitched as more of its life force and cultivation drained away, flowing into Feng Fan.

Of course, Feng Fan wouldn't let the tainted energy enter him. He quickly activated the Suppression Relic to absorb it all.

This was valuable energy, something he could store for the Suppression Relic when needed. While he had no intention of using it to boost his cultivation, he wouldn't let it go to waste.

Realizing something was wrong, and that staying here would only lead to further losses, the creature made a swift decision. It turned sharply and bolted toward the window, aiming to escape.

But would Feng Fan let his prey slip away so easily? Of course not.

With speed far surpassing the creature's, Feng Fan intercepted its path, blocking the escape route with a grin plastered across his face.

"Where do you think you're going, little lamb?"

A cold dread crept over the creature. At that moment, it couldn't tell who the real monster was—him or Feng Fan.
