Chapter 472 - 466: The Mongolian Card
Gu Ning really wanted to strangle her, to save himself from being tormented in the future. It would be a simple case of early death making for early ascendance.
"I am going to buy you some food," Gu Ning stood up, ready to leave, only for a hand to reach out and grab his clothes. @@novelbin@@
"Tofu," Tang Yuxin opened her mouth, but no sound emerged. Was it because her voice was so hoarse that he couldn't quite make out what she was saying?
"Alright," Gu Ning acquiesced on account of her being a patient. "I'll go stand in line to buy you tofu," he turned back, his eyes seeming to want to strangle her, "Are you still going to call me Uncle Gu? I think I'll start calling you Auntie, no, I'll call you Granny."
Tang Yuxin nearly choked on her saliva.
Once Gu Ning left, she slowly sat up. She had been feeling a bit better. She could deal with her physiological needs on her own, and even go out to bask in the sunny warmth. She could flirt with the new nurse at the hospital, or chat with Li Jia about what to buy with her next paycheck. But now, she was immobilized once again.
Everything from her waist down felt incredibly heavy. Not to mention standing, even sitting up was difficult.
With much difficulty, she managed to sit halfway up, and lifted the cup on the table to take small sips of water. Then she suddenly felt a little stifled - the medicine was actually poison.
It seemed that she would really have to stop taking it. After this incident, where she vomited blood, she could not risk it again. For the safety of others and herself, the medicine would be dumped in the dustbin.
She didn't know how long she had been asleep. It felt like quite a while.
She set down the cup and pressed the button on the wall. Immediately, a nurse entered.
"Dr. Tang, you're awake."
The nurse came over joyfully, hardly taking a breath, "You don't know how much you scared us. We conducted tests on you and discovered toxins in your blood. Did you consume some poison? Were you driven to attempt suicide?"
Tang Yuxin wore an embarrassed smile. Life was so beautiful, how could she possibly commit suicide? Only a fool would do such a thing. It is easy to die, but the ones who suffer are the family members left behind.
She knew from her past life, death wasn't an option if you can't live up.
She handed the cup to the nurse, "I'm done drinking..."
The nurse nodded, "Alright, I'll put this aside for you," and set the cup aside. Even this small task seemed to be a challenge for Tang Yuxin now.
"Alright, Dr. Tang, I'm leaving now. Call me if you need anything." The nurse left, leaving Tang Yuxin in a confused state.
Couldn't she see that she had wanted another cup of water?
Never mind, she sighed, pulling the blanket down a little. She suddenly felt chilly.
The door opened again, and Gu Ning entered. He placed a tray in front of Tang Yuxin. "This is all for you. You're going to need at least half a month to recover from this illness."
"You can take this table home. Maybe you'll find it useful later."
He then placed the food on the table and filled her cup with water. Tang Yuxin eagerly took the cup and gulped down the water. It was hard having her life under someone else's control, especially without any understanding between them.
After finishing the cup of water, her throat felt much better. It was a welcome relief.
By this time, Gu Ning had opened the lunch box, which contained stir-fried tofu with cabbage from the military canteen, something she had developed a liking for recently. There were also two white steamed buns. Her preferences were strange; she didn't care for delicacies, but liked common food like this.
Tang Yuxin took the chopsticks and began devouring the food. Not only was her throat parched, but she was also incredibly hungry.
"Eat more slowly," Gu Ning tapped the table.
Eating a bit slower now, she couldn't help but wonder why she was so hungry. How long had it been since her last meal?
After finishing the buns, she felt full and satisfied. With her hand on her belly, she read her martial arts novel, while the young Guzi served tea and water.
"Uncle Gu..." It took her a while to find her voice, and it didn't sound too pleasant. She wondered if it was because she hadn't drunk water for a long time that her throat felt so dry. Fortunately, she could speak and make herself understood, and hoped that this situation would improve by tomorrow.
"Yes, what is it?" Gu Ning reached out and refilled her cup.
"Well, it's nothing really," Tang Yuxin coughed and quickly lifted the cup to drink. "Just wanted to ask when you plan to go back?" She needed to think about how she was going to take care of herself.
"I'm not going back for now," Gu Ning barely moved his eyelids. "Let's see when you are able to walk again."
"Uncle Gu, you're really kind," When Tang Yuxin heard that Gu Ning was staying, she felt a great sense of relief. With Gu Ning around, she felt as if anything she needed was at her fingertips, even the fried cabbage and noodles from the hospital cafeteria. She didn't want much, but she particularly liked this simple dish.
She had begun to consider Gu Ning as a family elder, an uncle, although this "uncle" was a bit too young.
"What was the poison you consumed?" Gu Ning moved over and refilled her cup. "Drink plenty of water, your throat is dry."
"An ingredient from an ancient remedy," Tang Yuxin picked up the cup and started drinking. "It was originally meant to revive dying people. It's said to stimulate one's spirit to its peak."
"And you just ate it?" Gu Ning continued, "You're a doctor, and you didn't think about the consequences?"
Tang Yuxin only managed a dry laugh, without arguing.
This time she'd been too naive and neglected to research the drug's properties. Little did she know, the consequences would be so severe, nearly costing her life.
Fortunately, the hospital were giving her half a month's leave. She could eat and stay at the hospital. Besides, there was an additional allowance, given that she had risked her life to take on the hospital's troubles.
A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts.
"Come in," Tang Yuxin put down the book she was reading. She was at an exciting part of the story. She had been engrossed in this martial arts novel that Gu Ning found for her for more than three days now.
What do you think?
