Chapter 432: Strange Files
Chapter 432: Strange Files
Listening to Ma Benshun's words, Yao Ran put the weapons back and said, "I'm going to check the warehouse."
After saying that, she left the side chamber. Following the vague images in her mind, Yao Ran made her way to the warehouse in the back area.
When she stepped inside and saw the empty shelves and boxes, she didn't rush to fill them up. Walking around the spacious warehouse, Yao Ran noticed that each box and shelf had a tag on it.
After inspecting the shelves and boxes, Yao Ran began filling them with supplies according to the tags. It took her fifteen minutes to finish before she noticed a door on the side.
Curious, Yao Ran opened the door and discovered an ice room powered by solar energy. Unfortunately, with the eternal night ongoing, the ice room couldn't be used.
Closing the door, she left the warehouse and proceeded to check other areas. Half an hour later, Yao Ran had inspected everything and finished organizing the warehouse.
Before leaving, she opened the map on her watch. Seeing the red dot turn green, she smiled and said, "Brothers, let's go. We still have two more places to visit."
Seeing that she was done, Ding Jianfeng asked, "Sister-in-law, can we take one gun with us?" Noting their expectant expressions, Yao Ran nodded. "Sure."
Hearing this, Ding Jianfeng's face lit up. "Thank you, Sister-in-law."
With that, the three of them returned to the side chamber to select their guns. Before long, they came back, each holding a new weapon.
Ding Jianfeng grinned and said in a good mood, "Sister-in-law, let's go."
Now armed with new guns, they left the checkpoint in high spirits. After Yao Ran locked the entrance, they boarded the armored vehicle and headed to the second checkpoint.
Inside the armored car, Ma Benshun handed a gun to Quan Yuanwei and another to Sima Yun, who was driving.
"Brother, this is for you."
Quan Yuanwei held the gun and asked in surprise, "Are you sure you want to give this to me?"
Ma Benshun nodded. "Yes. We all already take one, so I get two more for you and Brother Sima."
Seeing his sincerity, Quan Yuanwei accepted it and said, "Thank you."
As they made their way to the second checkpoint, the number of falling satellites increased dramatically.
Two hours later, an emergency warning from The Origin was issued. Hearing the notification sound, Yao Ran opened it and read the warning.
[Attention all personnel: Our satellite has fallen. All agents must report back within five minutes and find safe checkpoints. Stand by and await further instructions.]
After reading the warning, Yao Ran took out the satellite phone Shi Xuan had given her and called Long Yu. The call connected after just two seconds.
Before she could speak, Long Yu's worried voice came through. "Ran Ran?"
Sensing the concern in his tone, Yao Ran replied, "It's me. I just received an emergency warning from The Origin headquarters, so I decided to call you. It says their satellite has fallen."
"I see. How about you? Are you alright?" Long Yu asked again.
"I'm fine. Don't worry about me. What about you?" Yao Ran responded.
Hearing that she was safe, Long Yu finally relaxed.
Leaning against a military truck, he glanced at his comrades, who were distributing water to survivors, and said, "I'm fine. We just rescued a group of survivors trapped under a landslide. Once we confirm no one is left, we will head back to the emergency rescue point."
Knowing the urgency of his work, Yao Ran glanced at the dark sky illuminated by falling satellites and fell into deep thought. After a brief silence, she heard someone calling for Long Yu in the background.
Snapping out of her thoughts, she said, "I will call you later. Be careful and stay safe."
"Mhm. Call me when you go back later." Long Yu replied.
"Alright."
After ending the call, Long Yu pocketed the satellite phone and went to help with the rescue. A few hours later, Yao Ran and her team arrived at the second checkpoint. This time, Ma Benshun and the others decided to stay outside with Sima Yun and Quan Yuanwei.@@novelbin@@
Entering alone, Yao Ran quickly filled the warehouse and prepared to leave. However, as she passed by a small room, she paused. Seeing the plate hanging on the door, she murmured, "Laboratory?"
After hesitating briefly, she opened the door and stepped inside. Turning on the light, Yao Ran saw rows of filing cabinets instead of lab equipment like test tubes or experimental tools.
Feeling curious, she opened the nearest filing cabinet and pulled out a file. After reading it, she frowned slightly and reached for another.
After skimming through several files, Yao Ran thought, 'Why are they documenting events from twenty years ago?'
Although her curiosity was piqued, Yao Ran decided not to dig further since there were still more urgent matters to do. She returned the files, left the checkpoint, and rejoined the team.
On the way to the third checkpoint, Yao Ran remained deep in thought. Seeing her uncharacteristic silence, Ding Jianfeng exchanged glances with his brothers but chose not to disturb her.
By the time they completed their task at the third checkpoint, it was already the next day. Seeing that the number of mutants and deformed monsters had increased a lot, they rushed back to the air raid shelter.
When they were nearing the air raid shelter, Yao Ran looked at the brightly lit mountain in the distance.
"Looks like they managed to rescue a lot of people." She commented after a moment of thought.
Hearing that, Ma Benshun followed her gaze and said, "The Juncheng Military Base had almost two million survivors before the meteorites struck. It would be a miracle if they could save even 5% of the population."
His words brought back the hellish scenes Yao Ran had witnessed two days ago. The group fell silent as Sima Yun drove the armored car into the shelter through the back entrance.
What do you think?
