Chapter 285: | 285 | Operation Retribution Freedom: First War Report
Above the citadel of the United World Government was its crown, there dwelled the Authority, the sole regent of the World Government. His duty was not that much different than that of an emperor of an empire, though he might be an eternal one for he stands above the heavens itself. He was Abraham Shepherd, and now, his eyebrows furrowed upon a piece of paper.
It was a file, the first war report since the beginning of the Operation Retribution Freedom. It wouldn't be the last one, but it was of great importance as the doctrine of the Sentinels remained at their infancy. On the other hand, a lone intelligence officer stood in front of him, awaiting for further commands from the Authority.
Abraham read the file report with scrutiny and went through word by word. The circumstance in the battlefield was a lot better than he had expected. The Sentinel Fleet had utterly crushed the fortress island of Citrus and defeated it in mere hours. It made him wonder whether or not he had overestimated the Colonial Dominions, or perhaps underestimated the Sentinels.
Regardless, it was their first victory after their withdrawal from Dominion Island. And that was enough for the middle-aged man. Obviously, they wouldn't stop. This was an opportunity, and he didn't want it to come to pass without particularly being rewarded some benefits. Of course, these benefits come in the form of sovereignty. It was time for them to expand.
He closed the file report and turned his gaze towards the intelligence officer, whose back straightened immediately upon meeting his eyes. "The Sentinels are effective, perhaps too potent. I'm sure you all have the same thoughts as myself. Directing over two dozen of vessels into a single town or city might have been a bit much. Although, perhaps this works in our favor."
"You are correct, Sir. The capabilities of the Sentinels have been far more than expected. It has been suggested that instead of a fleet, the United Navy could utilize naval squadrons of three for the strategic ships." The intelligence officer nodded in agreement and reported a suggestion from the high command. it made sense and would make it easier for them to manage logistics.
They wouldn't be too spread out, while also wouldn't be too crowded in one single position. The edges of Abraham's lips rose as the new doctrine of the Sentinels and the greater United Navy was finally taking form. There was no doubt that sooner or later, the United World Government would dominate over the Ferus Sea.
"That sounds good. Consult with the high command of the United Military regarding the matter. How about we move forward unto the war report?" Abraham remarked and continued forward. The next part of the war report was regarding the effectiveness of the MECHs. Five MECH Squadrons from a strategic cruiser and a strategic destroyer had been sent to handle the fortress island.
Even though their adversaries were merely the survivors of the bombardment, the potency and the reliability displayed in the battlefield provided valuable detail to the United Military. The ability to navigate through every terrain without issues was of importance alongside the capability to effectively utilize cover in dexterous manner wasn't to be underestimated.
"No casualties have been reported from the MECH Squadrons, Sir. They remained dominant in the battlefield, even against the firepower and defensive capability of the Arcanum Engines. However, only the Assault MECHs could be deployed. As such, the Artillery MECHs remained untested in the battlefront." The intelligence officer reported with utter calm.
"Truly unfortunate it is. I would have wished to observe the effectiveness of the Artillery MECHs, especially against the Arcanum Engines. But the war against the Colonial Dominions is far from over. So, we will have our chances to test their effectiveness." Abraham uttered while glancing at the windows beside him. "I heard about the surrender of the last forces within the fortress island."
Hearing the words of the middle-aged man, the intelligence officer answered. "Over a thousand men surrendered when they were cornered within the northern port of the island of Citrus. This includes hundreds of musketeers, hundreds of cannoneers, dozens of Magi, and the last generals that formed the high command of the Colonial Dominions' armies."
"Oh... Far lower than I expected. It seems that they only surrendered where no paths other than death presented itself to them." Abraham remarked with a cold smile. He wanted them to surrender in massive numbers as it would give him the ability to hold some sway against the continent of Europa. But it wasn't too disappointing. After all, dozens of Magi and several generals were enough.
"They are currently being transported towards the Maximum Prison, Sir. There, they will be interrogated and considered as Prisoners of War by the World Government." The intelligence officer mentioned, earning the nod of satisfaction from the middle-aged man. "I want them thoroughly interrogated, especially the Magus and the Generals. But maintained caution."
"Even when arrested or imprisoned, they are far more dangerous than the usual prisoners. Ensure that their transport remains confidential, and I want them thoroughly checked." Abraham ordered the intelligence officer, who merely nodded in understanding. "I shall do as you ordered, Sir." Hearing him, Abraham smiled and continued. "Good, let's talk about our next strategies."
The next target of Operation Retribution Freedom was the interiors of the Colonial Dominion of Mavors, the neighboring Colonial Dominion of the United World Government. They were the staging grounds of the invasion, and the fortress island of Citrus was considered to be a part of them. In simpler terms, Mavors was responsible for the invasion.
After the collapse of the fortress island, the next phase was for the Sentinel Fleet to systematically conquer the entirety of the sea region. Meanwhile, the United Military would follow from behind and established permanent control over conquered territories. With the utilization of naval squadrons that consisted of three strategic ships, it would be far easier for the sea region to be conquered.
With the fall of the twenty-four armies, there was no doubt that the Colonial Dominions would crumble under their own weight. Though, it remains to be a question. But nonetheless, the possibility was high. As the Sentinel Fleet head deeper, the chances of complete implosion within the governance of the Colonial Dominions would increase.
"Take your leave and begin the invasion of Mavors. I want it fully conquered within a maximum duration of a week. I trust the United Military and the Sentinel Fleet in their capabilities to meet my expectations." Abraham ordered the intelligence officer, who deeply bowed and left his office with a straightened back. Silence enveloped the middle-aged man as he watched the growing city below.
The expansive cityscape of the Citadel was growing ever more stronger. Sooner or later, it alone would be the glory of the United World Government. But that was for the future. For now, the World Government must expand and grow. Resources needed to be extracted and land required to be utilized. Most importantly, those enslaved must be granted their right of freedom.
A little girl soon appeared on top of his table, sitting and swinging her legs with utter calm. She bore a resemblance to the Authority and most importantly the Dragon of Liberation. Her name was Tiamat, the daughter of the strongest individuals within the United World Government. It has been quite some time since she had met her father, especially after touring the entirety the country for a couple of months.
"Father, I heard about the invasion of Dominion Island and the declaration of war. Would you like my assistance." Although she was a little girl, inside her was the blood of the dragoness and the one that stood above the heavens. There was no doubt that the power of her bloodline and her potential would be far larger than he and Laplace combined.
Abraham smiled at the sight of his daughter wanting to help him. He patted her fluffy hair and roughened it up, earning her cute pout. "Children shouldn't bear the responsibilities of adults, besides me and your mom have made it our duty to ensure you wouldn't face the battlefield. Instead of worrying about things, you should learn and grow."
"But I'm far stronger than an ordinary adult." Hearing the words of her father, Tiamat pouted even further as she was annoyed at the fact that her father was treating her like a child. Abraham chuckled at her cute attempts of trying to look angry. "Strength doesn't determine maturity, Tiamat. The nature of war requires you to understand not only yourself but also your enemies."
"You don't fight them out of hate or anger, but out of necessity. Whether it'd be though expansion, pride, resources, people, and many more. These reasonings might bring about conflict, but you must understand that it is the nature of life." He patted her once again, to which she accepted with glee. "And besides, you aren't even a year old yet."
Meanwhile, above the fortress island of Citrus, the Sentinel Fleet have received their newest orders of the high command. They were to separate to the naval squadrons of three and assault received coordinates simultaneously. The repulsive thrusters of the strategic ships flickered as each vessels changed their trajectories. After cleaning up the island, the MECH Squadrons were picked up by their respected cruiser and destroyer.
The next phase of Operation Retribution Freedom had begun. The Colonial Dominion of Mavors was about to meet the all-out invasion of the United World Governments. And they would be the first to fall from the Combined-Technology of the United Military.
What do you think?
