Chapter 286: | 286 | Operation Retribution Freedom: Fall of the Colonial Dominions Part 1
The first to discover the utter defeat which the twenty-four armies had faced was the Colonial Dominion of Mavors. It brought great shock upon the higher echelons of the sea region, and alongside the disturbance was panic. The war effort had required great investment from the Colonial Dominions, and the greatest investor was Mavors.
With the defeat of the twenty-four armies, the colonial military had taken a significant impact. It was during this time when the second resurgence took place. The heretical invasion had invaded multiple islands throughout the outskirts of the sea region. Sadly, the Colonial Navy of Mavors stood no chance against the onslaught of the Sentinel Fleet which soared the heavens above.
In mere hours, every island throughout the fringes had been conquered and their adversaries was penetrating deeper. Various central islands were being evacuated of personnel and military assets. All were directed unto one location. This was none other than the capital city of Mavors, the final fortress of the World Government's neighboring Colonial Dominion.
On the other hand, allied Colonial Dominions were informed in regards to the defeat of the twenty-four armies and the invasion of the heretical nation deep into Mavors. Because of distance and the significant reduction of their capabilities to send armies out of their colonies. None could provide reinforcements or assistance to the invaded colony. In simpler terms, they merely watched.
There was the discussion of the Viceroy of Mavors with the high nobles of Europa, requesting for support from the main land. However, other than words of favors and consultation, it was for naught. The Colonial Dominion of Mavors was alone in the Ferus Sea. And it had been steadily devoured by the United World Government.
Anyhow, the invasion of the Sentinel Fleet were done through a naval squadron of three strategic ships. A lone naval squadron could dominate an entire island with practical ease. Even when it was fortified as bombardment would crushed any resistance that dared to build up their forces against the Sentinels. There was also the deployment of MECH Squadrons.
These MECH Squadrons contained Assault MECHs which scoured the entirety of the bombarded island and ensure that no leftovers would be left to resist against the United World Government. Unfortunately, casualty couldn't be avoided. A single Assault MECH was destroyed after climbing beside a cliff and causing a landslide which buried it alive.
It was nature that brought the first casualty of the MECH Squadrons.
Seventeen hours have gone by since the beginning of the Operation Retribution Freedom. The Colonial Dominion of Mavors had lost most of its territory. Its final dominion was within its capital city, embedded deeply within a fortress island far more defended than even the island of Citrus.
It was filled to the brim with runic barriers rand shielding, which even the Sentinel Fleet couldn't penetrate. Thousands of wyverns roamed its skies alongside Arcanum Engines entrenched throughout the fortress island. Alongside the Colonial Army of Mavors, the Magus Tower also joined the final resistance against the heretical nation that had invaded them.
So, what does the capital city look like? Well...
---
*BOOM!!!*
*BANG!* *BANG!* *BANG!*
*BOOM!!!*
Above the capital city of Mavors, the divided Sentinel Fleet had converged before its skies, emerging throughout the heavens like the spears of god. A battle took place as wyvern riders filled the skies alongside drones that escaped the hangars of the strategic carriers. Cannons blasted, explosions gleamed, and radiance pierced. It was an engagement that deserved its place in history.
The runic barriers and shielding of the capital city remained strong even with the bombardment of the entirety of the Sentinel Fleet. The Colonial Dominion had been prepared and augmented their defenses before the final resistance against the heretical nation of the United World Government. With the help of the Magus Tower, it wasn't impossible.
While the Sentinel Fleet bombarded the runic barriers and shielding, the Arcanum Engines blasted towards the skies, resembling a ground ship of aerial defiance. The Colonial Dominion of Mavors had developed a new type of anti-air technology. Although crude, it was effective. Utilizing the inherent firepower of the Arcanum Engines, they were given the ability to resist the strategic ships.
As such, the battle of Mavors wasn't utterly in the side of the Sentinel Fleet. It was a battle between two colossal forces of the United World Government and the Colonial Dominion. A confrontation that deserved its place in history.
*BOOM!!!*
The bridge of the UNSS Vagabond slightly trembled while the personnel inside were busy in maintaining their offensive and defensive directive that encompassed the whole fleet. Captain Jack stood with furrowed eyebrows, gazing upon the runic shields and barriers that covered the entirety of the island. These intricate defenses covered each other, further augmenting their capability.
*BAM!!!*
Wyverns riddled the skies, passing by the bridge while being hunted by attack drones from nearby carriers. Even their anti-air units were being overburdened by the sheer numbers of their adversaries that had crowded the heavens. It was troublesome, especially when these lizards try to penetrate the exterior of the strategic ships.
After all, even though they were considerably armored. The strategic ships weren't invincible. Sooner or later, a Wyvern and its rider could penetrate through the armor and wreak havoc within the ship. These thoughts filled the mind of Captain Jack. It made him realize the adaptability of humanity, and how troublesome it was.
"Any orders from the Admiral?" Captain Jack questioned an intelligence officer, who merely shook their head. Thousands of wyverns were soaring throughout the heavens and were overwhelming them through sheer quantity. "Damnit! Prepare the MECH Squadrons for deployment! I want them on the ground now! And focus in taking care of those lizards!"
"Understood, Sir!" Hearing the orders of their captain, the personnel worked fast as the deployment of the MECH Squadrons was immediately followed through. The hangar bay below the UNSS Vagabond slid opened as Assault MECHs prepared themselves to be release from the vessel. Missiles streaked across the air hitting nearby wyverns while CRAMs rained down lead upon the lizards.
As the personnel in the bridge worked hard, the Mecha within the Assault MECHs was engulfed with an earie silence. They resided within the cockpit with holographic screens displaying the current status of their walker. The commanding officer had requested for their deployment, and from the looks of it. This would be a tough one.
Inside one of the Assault MECHs, a lone Mecha felt the weight of this deployment. He glanced down, perceiving the chaos that encompassed them. His heart pounded, yet his body remained unshaken. The arms that locked his Assault MECH moved onward, directing his walker to the opened hangar bay. The wind surged inward while his cockpit lightly trembled.
*During the descent, Vagabond will provide cover fire. Prepare for drop in 3...2...1... Releasing locks!*
The arms unlocked as the Assault MECHs fell from the hangar bay. They descended and pierced through the air with the wind flooding the exterior of their walkers. The lone Mecha felt the radiance of the day and was met with a spectacular scene. His pounding heart became quiet as his eyes widened in utter amazement. It was beautiful, to say the least.
Black smoke filled the heavens as explosion ran asunder to every corner of the skies. Crimson flashes gleamed alongside falling corpses of broken wyverns. It was a true battlefield. Not a mere massacre or suppression of one side. Two of equal strength were fighting against one another. And it brought about a scene that deserved to be in a movie.
The Mecha observed his altitude, which was lowering by the moment. The ground was getting nearer, though explosions blasted beneath them as the buildings below was flattened into damnation. In half a minute, the MECH Squadrons made their landing. Dust and smoke enveloped them like a shield that protected them from perception.
*Operation Directive...*
*Destroy the runic generators which maintained the barriers and shielding of the city.*
Returning back to the bridge of the UNSS Vagabond, an intelligence officer quickly reported to the commanding officer. "Sir, the MECH Squadrons have successfully landed 1.25 clicks from the closest runic generator." The strategic destroyer had provided support through bombardment. But despite the amount of firepower they blasted, only a fifty-meter flattened ground could be employed.
"Good, ensure to support them during the operation. Provide them intel regarding their surroundings." Captain Jack nodded in satisfaction and ordered. He turned his attention to the aerial battle and noticed more strategic ships releasing their MECH Squadrons. Withholding a card wasn't a strategic that could be utilize in their current circumstance. After all, holding back could result in their defeat.
'It seems that others also understand the importance of not wasting a moment. The United World Government doesn't fight through attrition, but through complete dominance over its adversary. If we let them begin a conflict of attrition, then there is no doubt that the Authority would be disappointed on us.' He quietly thought to himself, satisfied by the current actions of the Sentinel.
The campaign of the capital city of Mavors had merely begun. It was a conflict between the Colonial Dominions and the United World Government. A mere step towards a greater future.
Assault MECHs clashed within the capital city of Mavors as their EM Rifles pierced through cannon emplacements within the city. It wasn't a stainless engagement, especially when civilians stilled riddled some of the buildings within the vast cityscape of the Colonial Dominion. The MECH Squadrons needed to be careful.
Otherwise, collateral would be a common place within the offensive.
What do you think?
