Chapter 27: Kaya, the Ship Doctor—On Board!
“Kaya, quickly—recall everything you’ve read in medical books!” Ace’s voice carried a sense of urgency as he observed the mystical energy surrounding Kaya. The Realm of Enlightenment, a power born from the fusion of Nika’s imagination and Ace’s unparalleled comprehension, required the will and intent of the recipient to activate its full potential.
“O-Okay!”
Kaya’s voice trembled slightly, but she immediately began recalling every medical book she had ever read. And in an instant, the complex medical knowledge that had once felt dense and difficult. Now, it seemed as simple and intuitive as a childhood game. New concepts and techniques she had never studied before were now etched into her mind—as if they had always been there.
A wave of invisible energy spread outward. Ace’s Observation Haki suddenly picked up something unusual. A white fruit, covered in spiral patterns, was being carried ashore by the waves. His eyes sharpened.
【Superhuman-Class Healing Fruit has been drawn by Kaya’s supreme comprehension!!!】
A message appeared in his mind, making Ace’s grin widen. It worked.
This was why Ace had brought Kaya to the shore. His own Flame-Flame Fruit had once been drawn to him due to his unmatched comprehension. So he had wanted to see if Kaya’s own awakening could attract a Devil Fruit. That theory had been proven true.
……………………………………………………………………………………..
“A… A Devil Fruit?!” Nami’s eyes nearly popped out of her skull as Ace casually picked up the white fruit.
“This… This is a treasure of the sea!” Her hands trembled, her mind racing. “That fruit alone… It’s worth at least one hundred million Berries!” With just one Devil Fruit, she could buy back Cocoyasi Village from Arlong. The thought flashed through her mind, but after a long pause, she remained silent. She simply watched as Ace held the Healing Fruit in his hands.
“Ace… what is that fruit?” Kaya asked hesitantly. Ace smiled warmly. “This is for you, Kaya.” He held it out to her. “The Superhuman-Class Healing Fruit. Once you eat it, your illness will be cured.” Kaya’s lips parted in shock. “A… A Devil Fruit?!” Merry, standing nearby, gasped aloud.
Ace nodded. “Not just any Devil Fruit.” He smirked. “This one is worth at least ten billion Berries.”
“T-TEN BILLION?!”
Nami’s legs nearly gave out. She was frozen in place, her mind completely blank.
That’s more money than Arlong has ever seen in his life…That’s more money than I could ever dream of.
But then, she glanced at Kaya. Her frail frame, her delicate hands, her hopeful yet hesitant eyes.
Nami took a deep breath and smiled. This fruit isn’t mine to take. It belonged to Kaya.
“T-This is too precious…”
Kaya’s voice shook slightly. Even her family’s wealth had never reached this level. But Ace simply laughed.
“It was meant for you.”
“Just like you were meant to be my ship doctor.”
Kaya bit her lip, her eyes moist with emotion. At Ace’s gentle encouragement, she ate the fruit.
The moment it touched her tongue, her face twisted slightly.
“Ugh… It tastes… awful…” She winced. “That’s how all Devil Fruits taste,” said Ace, chuckling. “But just wait.” A soft golden glow spread over Kaya’s entire body. She felt a warm energy surging within her, like a gentle wave of healing washing through her veins.
Her illness was gone.
“I… I feel…”
Her fingers curled into fists. She bounced on her feet, testing her own strength. She jumped, and for the first time in her life, she felt light. She felt free.
“My body—!” Her eyes widened in disbelief. “I feel… amazing!” Ace grinned. “See? I told you—” “This fruit was meant for you.”
Tears filled Kaya’s eyes. She leapt forward and threw her arms around Ace.
“Thank you, Ace… thank you!” Merry wiped away tears, his hands shaking with emotion. “My Lady… You’re… healed!”
Even Nami, who had once doubted Ace’s every word, felt her heart soften.
This guy…He really changes people’s lives…”
Ace gently patted Kaya’s head. “Welcome to the crew.” “My destined ship doctor.”
Kaya pulled back—her face flushed, but her eyes shining. She nodded firmly. “Yes! I’ll do my best!” At that moment, Kaya was no longer just the sickly noble girl from Syrup Village.
She was now a pirate, a healer, a member of Ace’s crew.
What do you think?
