Novel's Extra: The Lost Heir of Dragon Queen

Chapter 39: The Art of Recruitment

After announcing the leaders, Professor Darius stepped forward again.

"Now, we will categorize the remaining students into two groups: sub-leader students and low-leader students....

....

....

The classroom settled into a focused quiet as Professor Serena stood at the front.

She let her gaze sweep across the students before speaking in a calm yet firm tone.

"Congratulations As your evaluation are now done" she said.

"Your next task is to form teams, as structure for team formation are—"

"Firstly a team can have 15 members, if leader category student is not in the group,"

"If your group have one leader then you can have total of 12 members,"

"And if they are more than 2 leader category students in one group—then they will only have 5 members."

"You have 1 day to finalize your team selections. Dismissed."

The room erupted into whispers as students began to strategize.

Some immediately gravitated toward the most popular leaders: Shirone, Elise, and Olivia, whose reputations already shone brightly.

Kael leaned against his desk, quietly observing the scene.

As expected, no one approached him. Despite his performance during the evaluation, he was still a commoner, invisible to the ambitious or the status-driven.

"Figures," Kael muttered under his breath, a small smirk tugging at his lips.

He wasn’t here to win a popularity contest.

This was a game of strategy, and he intended to play it well.

Kael’s first target was Ren.

As Kael looked towards Ren who was sitting beside him.

"....."

"huh"

"Don’t tell me you’re thinking of recruiting me," Ren said.

"I am. I need you on my team.

"Are you serious, Kael? We’ll only have 5 members if we’re in the same team, but having 12 is a much better option."

"Isn’t that too many people? Seems like it might be difficult to coordinate." Kael said.

Ren shook his head, "Yeah, I get the logic, but larger group have more manforce," Ren said.

"It will but large groups also have their drawbacks. You’ll have too many personalities clashing, and more people to manage when things get rough."

Ren frowned slightly, considering the pros and cons.

Kael could see the wheels turning in his head.

"Besides," Kael continued ,"the more people you have, the more you have to rely on them. You won’t have as much freedom, and that means it’s harder to get things done quickly. It’s more about balance than just the numbers. Small, powerful groups work better when you can trust everyone."

Ren nodded slowly.

"So, you’re saying smaller groups are better for focus?"

"Exactly," Kael confirmed.

"Quality over quantity. In a team with multiple students, you’ll have to deal with ego and authority issues. Not everyone wants to listen to someone else who’s just as high-ranked, you know? That’s why you need to recruit wisely. A tight-knit team with trust can accomplish a lot more than a bloated one."

Ren took a deep breath, his gaze sharpening. "Alright, Kael. I see your point."

"Fine, Kael. I’ll join you." Ren added

Ren extended a hand, and Kael clasped it firmly, solidifying their partnership.

’Mission accomplished’

Next target is Marcus.

"Kael who are you going to recruit now" Ren asked As both of them were moving through the hallway.

"Marcus" kael replied.

"Are you serious and how are you going to recruit him"

Kael knew that recruiting Marcus wouldn’t be as easy.

Marcus had always been a calculating individual, always observing and gathering information.

Kael had seen him in action during the evaluation, and he knew that Marcus’s sharp mind and tactical approach would be invaluable to any team.

But he also knew Marcus wouldn’t join unless Kael proved his worth—he wasn’t someone who would follow anyone blindly.

"To recruit Marcus, I need to show him I have something to offer," Kael muttered to himself.

"I’ll need to show him my worth and why he should join my team."

He turned to Ren, "Marcus is all about strategy and intellect. If I want him on our team, I’ll have to prove that I’m not just a fighter, but someone who can match him in terms of strategy and foresight. He’s not easily convinced."

Ren raised an eyebrow.

"So you plan to outsmart him?"

Kael nodded.

"Exactly. He values knowledge and intellect over sheer strength. And once I show him that, I’m sure he’ll join us."

"There he is" Ren said while pointing towards sparring ground.

Marcus was sparring outside.

Kael waited until Marcus finished his bout before stepping forward.

"Marcus," he called out.

The tall student turned, his piercing Red eyes narrowing.

"What do you want, Kael?"

Kael met his gaze without flinching.

"I want you on my team."

Marcus crossed his arms, a faint smirk playing on his lips.

"And why would I join you when I could pick any other leader here?"

"Because you’re smarter than that," Kael

"You don’t follow the crowd. You’ve been watching, analyzing. You know Shirone’s team is stacked with talent, but it’s also full of egos. That kind of team crumbles under pressure."

Marcus raised an eyebrow.

"You think you’re any different?"

Kael shrugged.

"I don’t have a team full of stars. I’ve got people willing to work together."

Marcus was silent for a moment, his gaze unreadable. Then he chuckled.

"You’ve got guts, Kael. Fine, I’ll join. But..."

Marcus crossed his arms and stared at Kael.

"I will be the leader," he declared firmly.

Kael met his gaze with equal determination. "No, I will be."

Marcus’s expression darkened.

"Then I don’t want to join."

Kael smirked slightly.

"Fine. Let’s settle this with a duel. Whoever wins will be the leader."

Marcus’s Red eyes gleamed with excitement.

"You’re on."

Kael grinned. "Wouldn’t expect anything less."

Kael win the duel easily and now Marcus is in the team.

Next target

"Aelina: The Quiet Mage"

Kael’s next stop was the library, where Aelina sat surrounded by stacks of books.

Her blue hair glimmered in the sunlight streaming through the windows, and her pale violet eyes remained fixed on the tome in front of her.

"Aelina," Kael said, his voice cutting through the quiet.

She glanced up, her expression calm.

"Hii ....kael"

"What’s brings you here" she asked.

"A mage for my team," he replied.

Aelina raised an eyebrow.

"Mage?—There are stronger mages than me in this class. Why not approach them?"

"Because strength isn’t everything," Kael said.

"You’re precise, efficient, and you don’t waste energy. That’s what I need—someone reliable."

Aelina considered this, her gaze thoughtful. Finally, she nodded. "Alright. I’ll join you."

Kael smirked.

"This was easy than I anticipated well it might be because of my performance" kael muttered as he was now making his way towards.

The last member he wants to recruit.

"Lira: The Agile Rogue"

Kael found Lira near the dorms, sharpening her daggers with practiced ease.

Her auburn hair was tied back, and her sharp green eyes sparkled with mischief.

"Lira," Kael called, approaching her.

She looked up, a sly smile forming. "Kael. What brings you here?"

"I need someone quick and resourceful for my team," he said.

"That’s you."

Lira chuckled, resting her chin on her hand.

"Flattery won’t get you far. Alright, I’ll join. But don’t expect me to follow orders blindly."

Kael extended a hand, which she shook firmly. "Wouldn’t dream of it."

’Oh this is going to smoothly’. Kael thought

Ren and Marcus was following him.

As the trio make their way towards dorm.

"Guess I’ll follow you, but don’t mess this up, Kael. You’ve got a lot to prove now.". Ren said.

Marcus, on the other hand, crossed his arms and said, "I still think I’d make a better leader, but fine, let’s see what you can do."

Kael nodded confidently. "You won’t regret this, Marcus. Trust me.....
