Chapter 451: Chapter 451: Sound Asleep
“If that’s the case, stargazing and having some food, I’m quite willing to do that. It’s just that I’m not sure if there will be any danger tonight.”
“Looking at the situation, there shouldn’t be much danger. Alright, it’s been a tiring day and it looks like darkness is falling soon,” Heavenly Eye observed.
As he spoke, he looked up and gestured at his surroundings; sure enough, as he had said, the sky was beginning to darken.
The sunlight that had been visible just moments ago had now disappeared.
And the grassland became quiet all at once.
“Well then, let’s sit around here for a while, light a campfire, and plan our route for tomorrow. After that, we can have some food and get a good night’s sleep. We’ll deal with everything else when tomorrow comes.”
As they talked, the group walked over, and Hei Lang took out some items he had prepared in advance. Then, Lin Yi and the hunter collected some dry firewood from nearby.
After lighting the campfire, they instantly felt warmer and much more secure.
While eating their meal, they sat around the fire, planning the next day’s journey.
Of course, the ones feeling the most pressure were probably the hunter and Lin Yi.
The two acted as guides, and every step they took next could potentially be dangerous – it was all under their control.
“Take a look, should we take this road tomorrow? From what I see, going around this way seems like the most convenient route into the deepest part of the mountains,” Lin Yi said, examining the map before turning to ask for the hunter’s opinion.
After all, his own opinion was one-sided, and it was likely that only the hunter in front of him could make the final decision.
The hunter took the map and scrutinized it, but he seemed to disagree with the proposed route, shaking his head slightly.@@novelbin@@
“If you take this path, it looks quite problematic. Haven’t you noticed? This entire area is marked as unknown territory. So, it’s likely unsafe to approach from any direction.”
Yes, Lin Yi knew this all too well. There was a blank space on the map with a large question mark, an area they had never explored before.
“However, we still need to head into this area eventually. And as far as I know, the most valuable medicinal herbs are all found here, in the most dangerous but valuable place.”
“Yes, I am aware of the situation, but your route is definitely not possible. Look at the surrounding areas.”
“Oh, I see now. There seem to be some marshes and lakes around here, right?”
“The closer we get to water and marshland, the more unsafe our situation becomes. Water is the source of life and is likely to attract wild beasts.”
“Didn’t you say that wild beasts only appear deep in the mountains?”
“Yes, that’s generally true. However, we can’t rule out the possibility that they come out at night or during the day to hunt or search for water sources.”
“So, are you suggesting that our only viable routes are these two?”
“Correct, these two paths seem to lead inside, but I’ve walked down this one before, many years ago. I don’t recall much, but this other route is completely unfamiliar to me.”
“Then let’s choose the one you’re more familiar with, the one you’ve traveled before. Even if you don’t remember much now, maybe things will come back to you once we get there?”
“I hope so. Alright then, I’ll continue along that route tomorrow.”
As he spoke, the hunter yawned deeply and then, looking at his watch, realized that it was already 7:00 pm.
Although nightlife hadn’t truly begun, in the middle of the wilderness, this time already felt very late.
“Ah, I can’t help it anymore, I’m too tired. I need to take a moment to return to the tent and rest. If you guys want to keep talking, you can continue here for a while, but make sure not to stay up too late, it wouldn’t be safe.”
After a whole day of hard work, even a hunter with great stamina would find himself exhausted by now.
The hunter picked up his trusty rifle and crawled into his tent.
Lin Yi glanced back; even though he was lying on the ground, his grip on the rifle was still tight.
It seemed he was always on alert.
In such an environment, everyone had to remain vigilant at all times.
“Ling’er, are you tired? If you are, you should also head back to the tent to rest. After all, we’ve been on the move all night.”
“I’m okay for now, not too tired. Do you think our journey tomorrow will be as smooth as today?”
“Smooth? Do you consider today’s journey smooth?”
“Yes, I think it went very well. We encountered danger on the way, but we resolved it quite easily. It’s been a very successful trip so far.”
“Well, if you put it that way, then yes, it’s been quite successful indeed. How about you?”
“Me? I’m fine, big brother. I’m still full of energy. Even if you let me go back to Zhenfeng to sleep, I might not be able to fall asleep.”
“Even if you can’t sleep, you’d better try to get some rest soon. With it being so late at night, I worry that the fire might attract wild beasts. So we should put out the fire soon and quietly slide into our tents. Maybe we’ll be able to get through the night safely.”
Indeed, as Lin Yi said these words, he used the word ‘maybe’.
What do you think?
