Chapter 46: Cute Witch’s First Kisses

Chapter 46: Cute Witch’s First Kisses

My feet dipped into the water. The coolness of the lake beneath the mountain lapped at my toes, and I held the hand of the girl next to me. Mary smiled and looked into the underground lake. Her eyes reflected the glowing from the crystals mirroring off the water.

I wiggled my toes in the cool water. “It really is pretty down here. I bet you never imagined we’d see this sight on Earth.”

“I never thought it would happen either, but remember, I’ve lived here for longer than my Earth life. Actually, you have too when I think about it. Besides, these jewels aren’t even the prettiest thing down here.”

“They’re not?” I asked.

Mary chuckled and pushed on my shoulder with both of her hands. “Of course not, dummy.”

“Then what is?”

She breathed a long sigh. “Sometimes you can be unexpectedly smart. Other times I want to pinch you because with all of that density in that head, there is a lack of a brain.”

“Wow, that’s rude.” I shook my head. “It might surprise you, but I understand what you’re meaning. I’m just very confused. Did you ever indicate such feelings before?”

Mary took a deep breath and leaned her head into my shoulder. “I don’t really know. I was quite confused with my feelings at the time. You know that Earth is not the most accepting of these things?”

“Yeah, but what about this place? Most of the people here are the same.”

“Yet, you can be away from people here. Something that was not really possible where we live. Just look where we are now. We’re trapped in a cave, and I’m stuck with the cutest dummy alive.”

I blushed and waved off the compliment. “It’s still weird to think that you were just a normal receptionist before, and your habit of nagging me never went away.”

“If I didn’t nag you, then nobody else would. Sine would push you even further into corruption. The other people around you would be too afraid to say anything. I do wonder what it was like living all by yourself for all that time. It must have been hard.”

I shrugged and clasped at a book from my inventory before closing it. “There are many ways to make it not a problem at all. Besides, I’m more of a girl that likes to focus on the present.”

“And what does present Eerie think?”

I gripped the hand I was holding tighter. “I know it sounds silly with you being a powerhouse yourself, but I don’t want to lose you. If I can be so shameless, you’re what’s always kept me together. Even on Earth, I don’t know what I would have done without you. It always feels like certain things make more sense when I am with you.”

The wrath demon’s face turned a nice shade of red, and she returned the same squeezing sensation to my hand. “Maybe I ought to stick around then to see to it that you stay put together?”

I looked at the embarrassed girl sitting next to me, hoping that those words would be true. Regardless of what we became, I would always want Mary to be beside me as a friend. But the next thing she did took me off guard.

The demon of wrath grabbed the back of my head and pulled me into a kiss.

My rounded eyes were full of shock. I almost couldn’t fathom what was going on. My best friend from my past life, and the demon of this life was kissing me. Moreover, she was not giving me the kind of kiss that friends were supposed to give each other. Mary had kissed me directly on the lips.

By the time my brain could process it, the kiss had already ended, and she pulled away from me.

I blinked several times, slowly catching up to reality. “Wh-what did you just do?”

“I figure that this way there is no way you can mistake my intentions. Did you hate it?”

My head shook, but I was still reeling. “No, I didn’t hate it at all! But I am just so confused!”

“I was surprised you didn’t stop time or something. The first time I imagined doing that, I believed that the world would freeze in that moment.” She paused and looked down at the water, her voice growing meek. “Are you sure it was okay?”

“No, it...It wasn’t okay.” I shook my head and smiled. “It was amazing. C-can you do it again?”

Mary’s eyes lit up in surprise as she smiled. She placed a tender hand on my thigh and stared into my eyes, slowly leaning in closer. “Of course I will do it again.”

Once again, her cherry lips met with my own, and we engaged in a tender kiss. This time, the world did seem to freeze around us as I captured the moment. My heart thudded in my chest, and I thought I would lose control of my magic.

The sensation was like nothing I’d ever felt before. I’d never been kissed in either of my lives, unless one counted their very own parents. However, now, I was engaging in the second kiss willingly. Tender lips lapped at the edge of my mouth, and I felt her soft hands gripping my cheeks.

Warmth spread throughout my body. The cold water had become nothing but a background sensation. And soon, the girl was on top of me, looking down into my moist eyes.

“Are you crying, Eerie?”

“N-no, these aren’t tears. I just got some of this underground lake water in my eyes.”

Mary smiled and leaned down towards my face once more. “That’s such an Eerie answer. I should have expected nothing less.”

“Wait,” I said, putting my hand up to stop here. “What does this mean for us? I’ve never done any of these things before.”

She put a hand to my lips, stopping me. “Instead of labeling things, what if we just enjoy everything that happens in this moment? All of that we can figure out after.”
