Chapter 169: The True Purpose of Raven Tower
A Gathering Within the Tower
Seraphis stood in the grand hall of Raven Tower, her white hair cascading down her back as she gazed upon the five figures before her.
Aerisiel. Elyndra. Vaelora. Lorienna. Yveris.
Each of them stood silent and poised, clad in the midnight-black uniforms she had given them, the sigil of the White Raven emblazoned on their chests. Their masks concealed their expressions, but their piercing eyes remained locked on her, waiting.
The flickering torches cast long shadows against the stone walls, their light barely reaching the towering shelves that stretched into the upper levels of the tower.
Tonight was different. Tonight, their true mission would begin.
Seraphis took a slow breath, her voice steady as she addressed them.
"The time has come to define the purpose of this tower."
The five figures remained still, listening intently.
"On the surface, Raven Tower will be known as a center for magical research—a sanctuary where spells, tomes, and ancient knowledge are studied and preserved. That is what outsiders will believe. That is what they must believe."
A pause. The flickering flames danced in the silence.
"But beneath that facade, your true task will be far greater."
She took a step forward, her white eyes gleaming like molten silver.
"Your mission is to uncover, study, and master forbidden magic."
A ripple of energy passed through the room, the sheer weight of those words settling upon her five creations.
The Weight of Forbidden Knowledge
Aerisiel tilted her head slightly, her emerald-green eyes glinting beneath the shadows of her mask.
"Forbidden magic…?" she murmured, her voice smooth but laced with curiosity.
Seraphis nodded.
"Magic that has been erased from history. Spells so dangerous, so feared, that entire kingdoms have sought to bury them. Powers that defy nature itself."
Elyndra crossed her arms, her dark violet gaze unblinking.
"And why would we seek what others fear?"
Seraphis gave a faint, knowing smile.
"Because the greatest power lies in that which is forbidden."
Silence followed.
Then Vaelora spoke, her voice soft yet sharp.
"How will we find it?"
Seraphis turned, gesturing toward the towering bookshelves that lined the walls.
"This tower will house every scrap of lost knowledge we can find—every banned tome, every forbidden scroll, every whisper of power that has been silenced by history. You will become the seekers of forgotten magic. You will dig through ancient ruins, decipher hidden texts, and collect every ounce of forbidden knowledge that exists in this world."
Lorienna's blue eyes flickered with intrigue.
"And what of the consequences?" she asked. "There is always a reason knowledge is buried."
Seraphis chuckled softly, folding her arms.
"Fear is the only reason knowledge is sealed away. Kings, churches, and mages alike fear what they do not understand."
She took a step closer, her presence looming over them.
"But we—" she gestured toward them, "—are not like them. We do not fear knowledge. We seek to claim it."
The room felt charged, as if a storm were brewing within the very walls.
Then Yveris, the quietest of them all, finally spoke.
"What will we do with this knowledge once we have it?"
Seraphis met her gaze, her expression unreadable.
"We will decide that when the time comes."
The five figures exchanged glances.
Then, as one, they bowed.
"We understand, Mother."
The Oath of the Raven Scholars
Seraphis extended a hand, and five dark feathers manifested in the air before her. They drifted downward, landing in each of their palms.
"This feather binds you to Raven Tower. It marks you as its scholars, its guardians, and its seekers of truth. The path you walk is one of secrecy and danger, but it is also one of power."
Each of them gripped their feathers tightly.
Seraphis narrowed her eyes.
"Do you accept this duty?"
A moment of silence.
Then, one by one, their voices rang through the chamber.
"I accept."
"I accept."
"I accept."
"I accept."
"I accept."
The air shuddered as the oath was sealed, the magic binding them to their new purpose.
Seraphis smiled, satisfied.
"Then let the hunt for forbidden magic begin."
From this moment on, Raven Tower was no longer just a sanctuary of knowledge.
It was a beacon of lost power, a vault of forgotten sorcery, and the greatest source of forbidden magic the world had ever seen.
And the world would never see it coming.
What do you think?
