Chapter 319: Dragonite Vs Probopass

Chapter 319: Dragonite Vs Probopass

At 10 a.m. on the 15th, Julian arrived at the entrance of the National Rock-type Gym in a car arranged by the hotel manager.

The statues in front of his family's Steel-type Gym were Metagross and Aggron, as those two Pokémon had long been the symbols of Steel-type Gyms.

Meanwhile, the statues at the entrance of the Rock-type Gym were Tyranitar and Probopass—one roaring toward the sky, the other standing still in silence.

Julian took out his phone, snapped a photo of the statues, and posted it in his group chat.

Julian: The Challenge begins.

Will: Which Gym is this? It looks grand.

Luis: Brother Julian, you're so fast!

Hannah: Good luck!

Nicole: When are you coming back?

Without checking the replies, Julian walked straight in as the doors opened.

There was no guide leading the way—after all, there was only one path. The Gym staff clearly knew he was coming; otherwise, they wouldn't have opened the door for him.

Three minutes later, Julian arrived at the battlefield of the National Rock-type Gym. The field was about the size of two soccer fields and was a neutral battlefield, meaning no type advantages were given.

To his surprise, he spotted a familiar face.

"Professor Frank? What are you doing here?"

Seeing Frank, Julian couldn't help but wonder if he was here to oversee his challenge.

Frank chuckled. "My father is the Gym Leader. What do you think?"@@novelbin@@

Julian was slightly taken aback—he hadn't expected that.

On the other side of the battlefield stood an elderly man. Julian had excellent eyesight, and even from a distance, he could make out the man's features clearly.

"You two don't even look alike," Julian said.

Frank's face darkened. What's that supposed to mean?

"I take after my mother."

"Oh"

"Julian, are you choosing a 3v3 or a 6v6 battle?" Frank asked.

"3v3," Julian replied.

This format gave him the highest chance of winning. If it were a full-team battle, his odds of victory would be less than fifty percent.

Frank nodded. He had expected this choice.

As the protective barriers activated, Frank, acting as the referee, stepped into the center of the battlefield. The recording equipment was also turned on.

"The Gym challenge will now begin! Challenger Julian versus National Rock-type Gym Leader Fred. The Gym Leader will send out his Pokémon first."

As the challenger, Julian had the slight advantage of seeing the Gym Leader's Pokémon first.

But in reality, this advantage was limited—it was a Rock-type Gym, so there was an 80% chance that Fred would use Rock-type Pokémon.

As Frank stepped off the battlefield, Fred released his first Pokémon.

A Pokémon with a massive red nose, a red cap-like structure on its head, and a grayish-blue body appeared on the battlefield.

Pokémon: Probopass (Rock/Steel)

Level: 80

Potential: Cyan

Ability: Magnet Pull

Item: Magnet

Gender: Female

Moves: Tri Attack, Magnet Rise, Spark, Magnetic Flux, Gravity, Wide Guard, Tackle, Iron Defense, Harden, Rock Throw, Block, Rest, Thunder Wave, Rock Slide, Power Gem, Rock Blast, Discharge, Stone Edge, Lock-On, Zap Cannon, Earth Power

TMs: Hyper Beam, Protect, Thunderbolt, Thunder, Substitute, Rock Tomb, Shock Wave, Sandstorm, Earthquake, Flash Cannon, Rock Smash, Smack Down, Giga Impact

Egg Moves: Stealth Rock, Rock Polish, Roll Out, Double-Edge

A Peak Elite-level Probopass. If not for its limited potential, it might have already broken into the Pseudo-Champion tier.

In fact, 80% of its Cyan-grade potential had already shifted toward Blue, meaning its breakthrough wasn't out of reach.

Besides Frank, who was acting as the referee, about a dozen spectators stood outside the battlefield. They all looked to be in their early twenties.

"Uncle, isn't Grandpa overdoing it by sending out Probopass first? No matter how strong Julian is, he can't possibly be Grandpa's match."

The one speaking was Frank's nephew—Ethan—a young man with dyed yellow hair. His gaze toward Julian wasn't exactly friendly.

After all, Julian had become "that kid from another family" in the eyes of most parents in Drakoria.

His father often used Julian as an example to lecture him, so naturally, he wasn't too fond of him.

Frank shot his nephew a glare. "I don't know if Julian can defeat your grandfather, but I do know that even a hundred of you combined wouldn't be enough to take him on."

Then, his expression darkened as he noticed the overly dolled-up woman standing beside his nephew.

"And stop hanging around with these shady people. If you dare bring her home, I'll break your legs in front of your father."

The woman looked offended and was about to retort, but Ethan yanked her back forcefully.

"Got it," he muttered in frustration.

In their family, the person he feared most was Frank—because unlike his father, Frank actually followed through on his threats. On top of that, he was the most promising among the family's three sons and was highly likely to inherit the Gym.

The other young spectators came from prominent families in Rockwell City. They were mainly here to watch the match, but their biggest reason for attending was Julian himself.

"Come on, gym leader, give it your all! Teach this guy a lesson and avenge my Leo!"

A 15 or 16-year-old girl clenched her tiny fists, fuming with anger.

Standing beside her was an older woman who bore a strong resemblance to her.

"If you keep running your mouth, I'll have someone send you home," the older woman said with a frown.

"Fine, I won't say anything! But why are you taking his side, sis?"

'Because everyone here has come to curry favor with him'

The older woman kept this thought to herself, choosing not to say it aloud.

Under the watchful eyes of over a dozen spectators, Julian tossed out a Poké Ball. The moment Dragonite emerged, he effortlessly caught the returning Poké Ball with one hand.

Pokémon: Dragonite (Dragon/Flying)

Level: 73

Potential: Purple

Ability: Inner Focus

Item: Dragon Fang

Gender: Male

Moves: Hurricane, Wing Attack, Roost, Wrap, Leer, Dragon Tail, Twister, Thunder Wave, Aqua Tail, Dragon Rush, Safeguard, Slam, Rain Dance, Fire Punch, Thunder Punch, Agility

TMs: Protect, Thunderbolt, Hyper Beam, Icy Wind, Hydro Pump, Flamethrower, Substitute, Iron Tail, Breaking Swipe, Ice Punch, Wide Guard, Dragon Claw, Ice Beam, Draco Meteor, Mega Punch, Dragon Pulse, Earthquake, Superpower, Giga Impact, Outrage, Heat Wave, Focus Punch, Fire Blast

Egg Moves: Extreme Speed, Dragon Breath, Dragon Dance, Outrage

Note: Soaked in Dragon Pool—Dragon-type moves deal 25% more damage.

In just three months, Dragonite had grown from Level 71 to Level 73—a terrifyingly fast improvement.

For a Pokémon at the Elite level, even a single-level increase over half a year was considered fast.

Standing at a towering four meters, Julian's Dragonite dwarfed the barely 1.5-meter-tall Probopass, making the latter look like a mere stumpy runt in comparison.

After making his entrance, Dragonite surveyed his surroundings before looking at Fred with a puzzled expression, as if to say:

"Hurry up and send out your Pokémon already."

"Pass!!"

Probopass: (〝▼皿▼)

Hearing the voice, Dragonite lowered his head—only then did he finally notice the tiny Pokémon beneath him.

Seeing Probopass's furious expression, Dragonite awkwardly scratched his head.

Dragonite: "Sorry, you're just too short. I didn't see you."

Maybe it was because he had spent too much time with Celebi, but Dragonite's way of speaking was getting him closer and closer to a beating.
