Chapter 330: Auction Starts
Chapter 330: Auction Starts
Soon the auction officially began, the auctioneer stepped forward and announced, "Honored guests, let us welcome our first auction item!"
As he finished speaking, a server pushed a small cart to the front of the stage. On it lay the first auction item of the night, and at the same time, detailed information about it appeared on the large screen.
Inside the private boxes, guests had tablets displaying information about the first item.
This Mystery Auction was unique—none of the participants knew what would be auctioned beforehand. Only when they arrived at the venue would they find out.
The first auction item wasn't necessarily the best, but it definitely couldn't be disappointing. After all, if the opening item failed to impress, some guests might just leave.
"Our first auction item is a Pokémon Egg with a 'Cyan' potential rating. The exact Pokémon species inside is unknown, but based on the egg's pattern, our experts have determined that it should be a Water-type Pokémon egg."
A Cyan-rated Pokémon Egg right at the start!
For Julian, a Cyan-potential Pokémon was nothing special. He didn't lack them. In fact, at this stage, he no longer had much need for them.
But for others, even top-tier families like the Drakes, Cyan-potential Pokémon were still rare and valuable.
Afterall, with so many heirs and descendants, it was impossible for every single one to have a Cyan-rated Pokémon—only the very best among them could obtain one.
This auction had gathered the wealthiest people from Rockwell City and even other cities, and among them some families didn't even own a single Cyan-rated Pokémon.
"The starting price is 200 million, and minimum bid increment should not be less than 5 million."
200 million wasn't much—if the exact Pokémon species could be confirmed, the price would soar even higher.
Even without confirmation, the bidding war escalated instantly. Within less than a minute, the price had already reached 400 million, with no sign of slowing down.
It didn't matter whether someone was a Water-type specialist or if their family focused on Water-types—if it was a Cyan-rated Pokémon, they had to grab it.
Of course, if it turned out to be a Magikarp or a Feebas, then forget it.
In reality, the egg could very well be a Magikarp or Feebas—after all, they were Water-types too.
But gambling instincts were strong. When the odds weren't terrible, and the potential reward was huge, people were willing to take the risk.
"Young Master, don't you want this Pokémon Egg?"
At 600 million, the bidding finally slowed down, Dawn glanced at Julian, who was still looking at his phone, completely uninterested in the Pokémon Egg.
"If it were Blue, maybe I'd take a look."
Julian was busy checking out Gallade, the newly released Pokémon in Glory. As the top laner of the game, he felt that this assassin-type Gallade would be a great fit for Slowking.
'It's going live at midnight. I'll let Slowking rank up with it, my Metagross is only 400 points away from the national top 50'
Seeing Julian completely absorbed in his phone, yet still casually demanding a Blue-grade Pokémon, Dawn was speechless.
A Cyan-grade Pokémon was already extremely rare—even noble families fought fiercely over them. If it were a Blue-grade Pokémon, it would be valuable enough to ruin entire families.
"Aren't you a Water-type trainer? You can buy it." Julian said without looking up.
He had just used his Probing Eyes to scan the egg. It was indeed Cyan-grade, and the Pokémon inside was a Corphish.
Once it evolved into a Crawdaunt, it would be a solid choice—a Water/Dark-type with decent offensive power.
Interestingly, Crawdaunt's claws frequently fell off and regrew. However, the meat inside had a strong odor, making it unpopular as food.
On the other hand, Crabrawler and Clauncher also shed their claws, but their meat was considered delicious.
Some Pokémon had body parts that were edible and could regenerate. The most famous example was Tropius, whose banana-like fruits growing under its chin were far tastier than real bananas.
Others included Cherubi's pink fruit and even Slowpoke's tail, which had a subtle sweetness and would regrow after being eaten.
Different countries had varying laws regarding the consumption of Pokémon with regenerative body parts.
Some allowed it.
Some completely banned it.@@novelbin@@
And some simply didn't care, as long as it tasted good.
In certain regions, Pokémon with edible traits were hunted to near extinction.
For example, Farfetch'd, which naturally came with its own leek, had been eaten to near-protected status in some countries.
In Drakoria, eating Pokémon with regenerative body parts was legal, but the breeding of such Pokémon was strictly regulated by the government.
Because of this, ordinary people could barely afford to eat them.
"I have bad luck. If I buy it and it hatches into a Magikarp or Feebas, I'll just be wasting food." Dawn shook her head.
In this world, the most common Cyan-grade Pokémon weren't Bug-types—they were Magikarp and Feebas.
They could survive anywhere there was water, thriving in rivers, lakes, and even dirty ponds.
Yet, to this day, no one truly understood how they evolved into Gyarados or Milotic.
Even a Cyan-grade Magikarp or Feebas would be useless if it never evolved, just sitting there, wasting food.
There was once a Water-type Elite trainer in Celestria who trained a Magikarp all the way to Elite level—
—and it still never evolved.
Thus, the world witnessed the birth of a Splash only, Elite-level Pokémon.
Many trainers had attempted similar things.

Bad luck!
Julian glanced at Dawn. The hesitation in her voice was obvious—she was probably just as unlucky as he was.
A sense of shared misfortune formed between them.
"Buy it. Don't worry, it's not a Magikarp or a Feebas." Julian assured her.
Dawn hesitated. She didn't know why Julian was so sure, and he didn't seem interested in explaining. After a brief moment of uncertainty, she finally placed her bid.
After a few rounds of bidding, Dawn won the egg for 800 million—a Cyan-grade Pokémon egg that would hatch into a Corphish.
If the Pokémon had been confirmed beforehand, the price would have been around 1 billion. If it had been a powerful Water-type, the price would have gone even higher.
Dawn was actually lucky to get it for 800 million, and it was all thanks to Julian. Many of the other bidders hesitated once they realized that Box #8 belonged to Julian. Even though it was Dawn who was bidding, they still backed off out of respect for Julian.
Shortly after, the Pokémon egg was delivered to the private box, Dawn transferred the payment and carefully took the egg into her hands.
"I wonder when you'll hatch."
She muttered, curious about the Pokémon inside.
"Soon. Probably in about three days." Julian replied.
Even without using Probing Eyes, the flashing frequency of the egg's white glow made it easy to estimate how many days were left until hatching.
