Pokemon: Reborn Rich Alternate Earth

Chapter 385: Battle Arena

The newly evolved Doublade was still a bit unaccustomed to its new body. It had been an only child before, but now, after evolving, it had essentially become a set of twins.

It flew several laps in the air at high speed—so fast that it was difficult to track with the naked eye, and this wasn’t even its fastest speed.

Julian waved it over, and Doublade immediately flew down, obediently stopping in front of him.

"I'm taking you for some training. That way, you’ll get a better grasp of your new body," Julian said.

After instructing Slowking to watch the house, Julian left with Doublade, Metagross, and Arcanine. The rest of his Pokémon remained in the backyard.

Why bring Arcanine along? The reason was obvious—if he left it at home, there was a good chance it would end up tearing the place apart.

Checking his phone for available battle arenas, he found that all the fields reserved for the Special Recruitment Class were occupied.

The level of competition within the Special Recruitment Class was incredibly intense. No one wanted to be kicked out, so the only option was to keep improving the strength of their Pokémon.

Improving a Pokémon’s strength mainly came down to two factors: resource investment and battling—gaining combat experience and leveling up.

As a result, nearly all ten battle arenas designated for the Special Recruitment Class were in use every day.

Ironically, despite being the top-ranked student, Julian was one of the least frequent visitors to these arenas.

He booked Arena 20 for two hours, the walk there would take about half an hour.

At the same time, he posted a battle invitation on the university forum, looking for challengers with Pokémon around level 40, with no type restrictions.

Within ten seconds, registrations started flooding in, and the number of applicants kept increasing.

Following the first-come, first-served rule, Julian selected the first five trainers who signed up.

As a well-known figure at Imperial University, and even considered a leading figure among the younger generation of trainers in Drakoria, getting the chance to battle Julian was a dream for many young trainers.

It wasn’t uncommon for people to challenge him randomly when they saw him walking around campus.

Of course, he rejected them all.

If he accepted every challenge, he’d never get anything else done.

When he arrived at Arena 20, the five trainers were already there, and a crowd of spectators had gathered around the field.

Many eyes were on Doublade, hovering at Julian’s side—it was clear that this was the Pokémon Julian would use.

Julian gave Doublade a look, and it gracefully floated into the battlefield.

Across the field, a trainer was already in position. Without much conversation, they tossed out a Poké Ball, and a level 40 Ampharos appeared on the field.

Its fur was smooth, and its eyes were sharp—evidence that it had been well-trained.

Ampharos was a strong Pokémon with a Mega Evolution, making it a favorite among Electric-type trainers.

Additionally, Mareep, Ampharos’ base form, produces extremely soft and delicate wool. Coats and scarves made from this wool are highly sought after.

"Doublade, Fury Cutter!"

Julian took the initiative and launched the first attack.

As Doublade flew toward Ampharos, its two blades suddenly split apart, each taking a separate curved path—one to the left and one to the right—rapidly closing in on the target.

Julian was the first trainer in the country to own a Doublade, meaning that most trainers here were unfamiliar with its battle style.

Even those who had read about it in books would likely have forgotten over time.

At most, seeing Doublade separate into two weapons might suddenly remind them of that fact.

With an attack coming from both sides, Ampharos was momentarily at a loss for how to respond.

Ampharos: "This is cheating! It's a two-on-one fight!"

Doublade: "へ( ̄◡ ̄)へ"

"Ampharos, move! Use Fire Punch on the left!" its trainer commanded.

The strategy was clear—take down one of Doublade’s blades first, then deal with the other.

As Ampharos moved, it quickly closed the distance to the left blade, swinging a flaming fist straight at it.

Clang!

Fire Punch

collided with Doublade's Fury Cutter, sending sparks flying.

"What the—? He just got this Pokémon not long ago, and it's already this unscientific?"

Ampharos' trainer was stunned.

Even though Doublade’s power was split in two, making each blade weaker than when they were together, it still didn’t get knocked back.

Just as the trainer finished complaining, a pained cry rang out.

He turned to see the right blade of Doublade had already reached Ampharos and slashed across its back.

"Ampharos, Discharge!"

With both blades now close, Ampharos’ red gem on its forehead flashed, releasing a surge of yellow electricity that engulfed Doublade.

But the very next second, the electrical field shattered from within.

Doublade’s two blades began spinning rapidly, merging back into one.

"Slash!"

A brilliant arc of light slashed downward, striking Ampharos right on the forehead.

Its eyes rolled back, and its body collapsed to the ground. A red mark was visible on its head—left by Doublade’s hilt rather than its blade.

Had Doublade used its actual sword edge, even if it held back, there was a real chance it could have split Ampharos’ skull open.

With the sharpness of Doublade’s blades, it could easily cut through a meter-thick steel plate.

In less than three minutes, Ampharos had been defeated. Its trainer sighed.

Without much delay, the second challenger stepped onto the battlefield, sending out a level 41 Medicham.

This Pokémon made Julian’s eyes light up slightly, because it had Cyan-grade potential.

A Pokémon with Cyan-grade potential might be common in the Special Recruitment Class, where every student had at least one, but in the Regular Class, it was still rare.

Of course, this opponent might not be from the Regular Class. They could very well be from the sophomore or junior year Special Recruitment Class instead.

As for seniors, whether they were from the Special Recruitment Class or Regular Class, almost none of them were still on campus. As graduation approached, they were all off completing their graduation assessment task.

Only by finishing this task, along with all the university’s four-year evaluation tasks, could they graduate successfully.

"Doublade, Fury Cutter!"

This time, Julian did not have Doublade split apart. Instead, it remained fused, attacking as one.

"Medicham, Detect!"

Doublade’s rapid, flowing slashes seemed completely unpredictable—like a wild, untamed stallion or a mountain goat leaping effortlessly across cliffs.

Yet, despite the impossible angles and blinding speed, Medicham weaved through the attacks effortlessly—like a butterfly dancing through a field of flowers.

No matter how Doublade struck, Medicham always dodged at the last moment, each attack barely grazing its body.

As the saying goes, "A miss by an inch is as good as a mile."

In just a few seconds, Doublade had already unleashed dozens of slashes, yet not a single one connected.

It was as if Medicham had completely seen through Doublade’s attack pattern.

Doublade: "I'll chop, I'll chop, I'll chop you to death.!"

Medicham: "Whoop, dodged! Dodged again! And again!"

"Medicham, Fire Punch!"

A faint blue light flashed in Medicham’s eyes as it pinpointed the smallest pause in Doublade’s relentless attack.

A burst of flames exploded from its fist, and-

Boom!

Doublade was sent flying through the air.
