Chapter 386: Top Breeder
As Doublade was sent flying by Medicham’s Fire Punch, the watching students couldn't help but gasp in surprise.
Just moments ago, Doublade had easily defeated Ampharos, proving its impressive strength.
But now, against Medicham, it had already been sent flying by a single punch—and Medicham’s assault wasn’t over yet.
The moment Doublade stabilized itself, Medicham had already closed the distance, its fist once again blazing with fire.
Even though Medicham wasn’t a Fire-type, the flames radiating from its attack were so intense that the air around it distorted from the heat.
"Protect!"
The fiery punch came crashing down, but it was blocked by Doublade’s Protect.
Despite the overwhelming force of the attack sending Doublade nearly a hundred meters back, it remained unscathed.
This time, Medicham did not chase after it. Instead, it stood on one leg, calmly watching Doublade. Julian could feel Doublade’s frustration. Those two punches had already unsettled its focus.
With a serious tone, Julian spoke: "Calm down."
Doublade hadn’t been with him for long. While it had made great strides in strength, its mental resilience was nowhere near that of Metagross or Dragonite.
Even Arcanine was steadier in battle.
Julian’s voice carried the power of Aura, gently soothing Doublade’s emotions.
"Use Metal Sound!"
As Doublade’s twin blades scraped together, an ear-piercing screech echoed across the battlefield.
A distressed expression appeared on Medicham's face.
"Shadow Claw!"
A sharp whooshing sound filled the air. In an instant, Doublade closed the gap, gathering Ghost-type energy into a meter-long spectral claw.
But just as the attack was about to land—it froze midair.
Psychic.
Medicham’s mental force halted the Shadow Claw in its tracks.
"Aerial Ace!"
"High Jump Kick!"
The two trainers issued commands almost simultaneously.
But the moment Medicham’s trainer spoke, his expression changed.
Because just as High Jump Kick was about to land, Doublade’s body suddenly vanished, and the next second, it reappeared behind Medicham.
With its blade tip glowing with piercing power, Medicham felt a sharp pain in its lower back—as if it had been stabbed through.
With a thud, Medicham collapsed to the ground.
High Jump Kick was one of the most powerful Fighting-type moves, but if it missed, the user suffered heavy recoil damage.
Now, with both agonizing knee pain and a sharp ache in its lower back, Medicham lay on the ground, struggling to stand up—but each attempt ended in failure.
"Slash!"
Medicham’s vision blurred, and it lost the ability to battle.
Julian's opponent recalled Medicham, looking frustrated. He had clearly been in an advantageous position, yet Julian had read his move first, completely turning the tables and even securing a decisive victory.
"Your Medicham is trained really well."
As the opponent retrieved Medicham, Julian's voice came from across the battlefield.
To be fair, if it weren’t for his better battle command, Doublade wouldn’t have been able to defeat Medicham based on strength alone.
Sure enough, even with the system's support, he couldn't afford to underestimate anyone—this battle had almost slipped from his grasp.
"It's going to be my ace in the future, I've spent an entire year training it."
Julian's compliment lifted the opponent's mood a little. After all, being acknowledged by Julian Walker was no small feat.
However, he was still a bit upset. His Medicham had been carefully trained for a full year, while Julian’s Doublade had barely been with him for three months—and it wasn’t even originally his.
The gap was clear, and any momentary joy he felt vanished.
The next three opponents were about the same strength as the first. Doublade finished each battle in under five minutes.
This made Doublade a bit unsatisfied—but opponents like Medicham were rare finds.
And thanks to the training manual Julian had received from Kaide, he had managed to avoid many detours in training the Honedge line.
"Alright, let's go."
The whole point of these battles was to help Doublade get used to its new body. Now that the goal had been achieved, there was no need to continue fighting.
If he had time, it could be better spent grinding ranks with Slowking and Celebi.
He was currently pushing for the top 50 in the ranked tournament, and with the season ending soon, he needed to climb fast.
"Arf!"
Arcanine looked at Julian, as if to say, 'That's it? I didn't even get to battle!'
Julian patted its head and said, "I didn’t bring you here to fight, I brought you here to keep you from tearing down the house."
Arcanine: "You are the real dog."
---
After coming out of Secret Realm No. 98, Julian had been at Imperial University for nearly a month. Aside from occasionally visiting the library, he spent most of his time relaxing at the villa, living the life of a happy shut-in...
'If not for this woman.'
Julian watched as Nicole measured Lucario’s height, weight, chest circumference, and other physical stats.
Lucario sat there like a lifeless puppet, letting her do whatever she wanted.
Julian ignored its pleading gaze.
'Just endure it—all of your teammates have been through this.'
Steelix: 'This is nothing. Just wait till she asks for fur, blood, and saliva samples.'
"How old are you?" Nicole asked.
Lucario: 'Why does this sound like she's talking to a little kid?'
“In three more months, he’ll be two years old,” said Julian who was standing beside them.
Lucario was his second Pokémon, and unlike the others, he had hatched it from an egg. The bond between them was exceptionally strong, with their Aura perfectly synchronized.
Nicole wrote "21 months" in the age column.
"Not even two years old, yet already at the peak of pseudo-Elite level… And he’s not the only one. How exactly are you training them?"
Having spent a lot of time at Julian’s villa over the past month, Nicole had grown quite familiar with him. If not, she wouldn't have asked such a direct question.
"You’ve seen it yourself. What else do you need me to explain?" Julian rolled his eyes.
He had never hidden what his Pokémon ate. In fact, Nicole had even taken some of his Pokéblocks for testing.
The results had shocked her—these Pokéblocks were leagues above anything on the market. Even more surprising, they contained unknown components, substances that didn't match any currently cataloged ingredients.
Perhaps those unknown ingredients were the secret behind his Pokémon’s overwhelming strength.
“…You’re really a top-tier breeder?"
Nicole still found it hard to believe. When Julian first told her he made the Pokéblocks himself, she had been skeptical.
"Otherwise, where do you think they came from?" Julian stretched lazily on the sofa. "I doubt I have the kind of connections to make those three big shots personally tailor Pokéblocks for my Pokémon."
Rumors about his Pokémon's "unnatural" strength were spreading fast and were becoming more and more outrageous—so much so that they had begun to become a threat to the Walker family in some ways.
So Julian figured he could use Nicole’s identity to provide the outside world with a more plausible explanation.
