Chapter 396: Cavendish Family
Since Duke had already woken up and there was nothing wrong with his body, Julian was ready to return to university. However, before heading back, he planned to visit his grandmother.
Julian’s grandmother was from the Cavendish family of Orient City, the city's most prestigious family and one of the top families in the entire Drakoria.
Since he was already in Orient City, it would be unreasonable not to visit her.
Just as he was thinking about this, his phone rang. It was his grandmother calling.
"Hello, Grandma."
"My dear grandson, are you in Orient right now?"
His grandmother’s affectionate voice came through the phone, and her way of addressing him was exactly the same as John's.
"Yes, I'm at the Gardevoir Hotel right now, I'll come see you soon," Julian quickly replied.
But the next second, his grandmother's slightly displeased voice came through: "If I hadn't called, would you have just ‘forgotten’ to visit me?"
She felt that it was only because she made this call that Julian remembered to see her.
"How could that be, Grandma? I was just thinking about coming to see you," Julian reassured her.
Women, no matter their age, always had a bit of stubbornness.
"That's more like it, don't pick up bad habits from certain people."
By "certain people," she was referring to Julian’s grandfather.
His grandparents had divorced before he was even born, but Julian had always made a point to visit his grandmother in Orient City every year, so they remained close.
After chatting for a while, Julian hung up the phone.
Celebi flew over and asked, "Are we not going back to university?"
"Not yet," Julian nodded.
Hearing this, Celebi seemed a little disappointed. It wasn’t that there was anything at university it particularly missed, but in university, it could stay in the villa, but once Julian left campus, it had to spend most of its time inside a Poké Ball.
Julian patted its small head in reassurance. "I'll let you play the top lane tonight."
Hearing that, Celebi immediately perked up and quickly said, "Then you have to be my support!"
Julian’s face darkened, playing top lane but still wanting him as support? Had Celebi eaten too much fried chicken and lost its mind?
After packing his things, Julian sent a message to his grandfather, letting him know that he was heading to his grandmother’s place.
Leaving the hotel, he took one of its cars and arrived at a grand estate in the outskirts of Orient City.
This was the Cavendish family estate. His grandmother’s family was huge, with many descendants—unlike the Walker family, which barely filled two hands when counted.
His grandmother had already informed the staff in advance, so the car entered the estate without any trouble and soon arrived at her residence.
As Julian stepped into the house, he saw that aside from his grandmother, most of the key members of the Cavendish family were also present.
“My dear grandson is finally here! I’ve missed you so much!”
Evelyn walked over with a warm smile, her slightly aged hands gently stroked Julian’s cheeks as she looked him up and down.
“You’re getting more and more handsome! As expected of my grandson.”
Evelyn looked at Julian proudly.
“Not only is he handsome, but now, who in the entire Drakoria doesn’t know Julian? He’s the number one trainer of the younger generation!”
The one speaking was the current head of the Cavendish family—Evelyn's nephew and her elder brother's son.
Ever since Julian became a professional trainer, he had accomplished many great feats. He made a stunning debut by winning first place in the individual competition of Silver Conference.
Then came the Shu University Exchange Match, where he defeated an Articuno. After that, he participated in the Hundred Schools League, where he, as a pseudo-Elite trainer, defeated an Elite.
His owning a Mythical Pokémon like Melmetal had shaken the entire country, and later, his Dragonite officially became an Elite.
With all these achievements, Julian had become the youngest Elite trainer in Drakoria’s history.
“You flatter me, Family Head.”
“Call me Uncle,” the man corrected with some displeasure.
He was the son of Julian’s grandmother’s older brother. By family hierarchy, Julian was indeed supposed to call him Uncle.
However, among all the members of the Cavendish family, the only one Julian was truly close to was his grandmother, Evelyn.
Despite the warm smiles on everyone's faces and their seemingly enthusiastic gazes, Julian could sense otherwise. Thanks to his Aura abilities, he could tell that their auras weren’t filled with genuine warmth.
In fact, they were indifferent at best—and some even carried hints of hostility.
Before awakening his Aura, Julian had thought the Cavendish family treated him warmly. Now, he could see that their enthusiasm had been nothing more than an act.
Apart from his grandmother and the family head, there were also a few younger members around Julian’s age present.
Julian recognized all of them. After all, he had visited the Cavendish family estate every year and knew them by name, but his bond with them wasn’t even as close as the bond he shared with Luis.
“How long are you planning to stay?”
His grandmother held his hand and asked expectantly.
Seeing the hopeful look in her eyes, Julian smiled and said, “Three days.”
“Only three days? You used to stay much longer!” she complained.
“Grandma, I’m in university now, I can’t take long breaks,” Julian explained.
In truth, though, it wasn’t just about university. He could clearly feel that aside from his grandmother, the rest of the Cavendish family didn’t particularly welcome him. Naturally, he had no desire to stay any longer than necessary.
“My dear grandson is now a student at Imperial University—and he was specially recruited, no less!”
“He’s far more promising than these few.”
As she spoke, her face was full of pride.
The ones she referred to were the descendants of the family head and other elders—the direct bloodline of the Cavendish family, who were standing nearby.
Imperial University was the top institution in Drakoria. Getting in required true talent and hard work; there was no way to buy or bribe one’s way through the admissions process.
Even if you were a civilian trainer, as long as you were talented enough, Imperial University would welcome you with open arms.
Imperial University didn't look at a students status, family background, or influence. The only things that counted were talent and hard work.
So if you weren’t one in a million, you had no chance of getting into Imperial University—let alone being specially recruited.
For a top-tier family like the Cavendish, it was quite embarrassing that not a single one of their descendants had been admitted to Imperial University in recent years.
Of course, this was also a reflection of the family’s gradual decline.
Every top aristocratic family in Drakoria had, at some point, produced a Champion-level trainer.
The Cavendish family’s Champion was his grandmother's father, but he had passed away decades ago, and his legacy had long faded.
Over the past ten years, no new Elites had emerged from the Cavendish family. While there were still a few elder trainers at the Elite level, they were all advanced in age.
And one of them was Julian’s grandmother.
For the past ten years or so, the younger generation of the family had either been spoiled troublemakers or complete disappointments. Even those with some talent fell short of being able to uphold the family’s prestige.
This decline had made the family appear increasingly weak.
If not for John silently supporting them from behind the scenes, some of their resources would have already been carved up by their rivals.
“Auntie, our family still has outstanding members. My youngest son, Lance, has already been admitted to Modu Academy in advance,” the family head said.
The young man named Lance was also present. Upon hearing his father praise him, he immediately puffed up with pride. He even cast a provocative glance at Julian.
“You must be itching for another beating,” Julian said casually.
Hearing this, Lance’s face stiffened instantly, remembering that ever since he was a child, he had been beaten up by Julian every year without fail.
