Chapter 437: Unown
Catching the book, Julian’s eyes immediately fell on the cover, where he noticed two shapes resembling an exclamation mark and a question mark.
He didn’t think much of it and was about to open the book when his hand suddenly froze.
To his shock, the exclamation mark and question mark on the cover eerily opened their eyes and stared straight at him.
A sense of foreboding instantly rose in his heart.
Perhaps sensing his unease, Metagross, who was behind Julian immediately flew over to him.
The Poké Ball on his waist containing Lucario also reacted, feeling Julian’s flustered aura, it swiftly emerged.
Both Pokémon were very fast, but they were still a step too slow against the exclamation mark and question mark, which were right in front of Julian.
Before he could react, the two symbols turned into streaks of black light and shot straight into his body with such force that Julian doubted even his Mega Pallet Town physique could withstand it.
However, the expected pain didn’t come. Instead, the exclamation mark and question mark directly burrowed into his body.
“Meta!”
“Luca!”
Celebi: "Are you okay?"
Magearna also looked at Julian with concern.
Julian touched his chest, not answering right away. Instead, he removed his shirt, revealing two palm-sized marks on his chest.
The marks were shaped like an exclamation mark and a question mark.
Then, under Julian's puzzled and panicked gaze, these two marks slowly faded away, and the skin on his chest returned to normal.
Although they disappeared, Julian could still feel their presence inside his body. However, he didn’t experience any discomfort for the time being.
“I’m fine.”
Julian reassured his Pokémon, and noticed Magearna’s guilt-ridden expression, he patted its head and said, “It’s okay, this isn’t your fault.”
“Maybe this is some kind of fortunate encounter for me.”
He chuckled, trying to lighten the mood.
His laughter eased Magearna’s guilt.
After all, in its eyes, it was because it had opened the pocket dimension that Julian ended up having two unknown entities invade his body.
"Maybe this really is a fortunate encounter," Julian murmured to himself.
Then, he stretched out his hand toward the bedroom door. With a loud bang, the door suddenly flew off its hinges.
Staring at his palm, he muttered, “My psychic abilities have advanced to the next level.”
Previously, his psychic ability was only at the intermediate level. While he could control objects, their weight couldn’t exceed ten kilograms, making his attack power rather limited.
Moreover, his psychic ability was a reward from the system, not something he was naturally gifted with. Even with training, he knew he would never become an advanced-level psychic in this lifetime.
Yet just now, he discovered that his psychic abilities had advanced.
Celebi: "I think I’ve seen those two things before, but their forms were different."
Celebi stroked its chin with a thoughtful expression on its face. It pondered whether it had encountered them a hundred years ago or perhaps two hundred years ago.
Julian said, “They’re Unown.”
At first, due to the suddenness of the event, he didn’t immediately recognize them. But now that he had calmed down, he remembered what they were.
Unown, as the name suggests, have mysterious and unknown abilities and have yet to be discovered by humans.
Julian knew about them thanks to his memories from his previous life.
According to what he recalled, there were 28 different forms of Unown—26 representing Latin letters and 2 representing an exclamation mark and a question mark. These two were unique in that their eyes were half-open, unlike the others.
Among all Unown, these two were the most special.
By some bizarre twist of fate, Julian had encountered them and, even more unexpectedly, they had merged into his body.
Whether this was a blessing or a curse remained to be seen. So far, he had only noticed the benefits—his psychic power had advanced—but no drawbacks had appeared yet.
It was said that when two or more Unown were together, they could create incredible phenomena.
In the Pokémon movie, a swarm of Unown had even created Entei, whose strength surpassed that of the real Entei.
Julian bent down, picked up the book from the ground, and stored it in his system space.
“Meta…”
Metagross felt guilty, blaming itself for failing to protect Julian.
“It’s not your fault.”
Julian said softly.
“Let’s leave this ruin today.”
Since he had already found the book on creating Magearna, and with the unexpected incident involving the Unown, Julian no longer felt like staying.
What he needed now was a full-body examination to ensure nothing was wrong with him.
He would be lying if he said he wasn’t worried.
After all, having two Pokémon suddenly enter your body—even if they boosted your psychic power—was unsettling. The anxiety from such an incident would only grow stronger.
Sometimes, when a sudden benefit fell into your lap, it often came with unforeseen consequences.
Without wasting any time, Julian left the ruins and sent a message in his family group chat, assuring them that he was fine.
The Ancient Kingdom Ruins were located near Southlake City, where the Walker family owned a private hospital.
As the young master of the Walker family, Julian was naturally given priority access. The hospital staff performed a series of complex tests in less than an hour.
All the results came back normal—in fact, they were exceptionally normal.
All of Julian's test results were within the perfect range.
“Mr. Walker, I’ve been practicing medicine for decades, and your body is the healthiest I’ve ever seen.”
The doctor said, holding the test report with a look of surprise, he wasn’t just flattering Julian—the results were genuinely flawless.
“Are you sure there’s nothing wrong? Could the machine have made an error?”
Julian frowned, with two Unown inside him, seeing such perfect results made him doubt the accuracy of the test.
“Rest assured, Mr. Walker. All the machines were replaced this year and are regularly inspected. There’s absolutely no chance of error.” The doctor reassured him.
Still feeling uneasy, Julian insisted, “How about running the tests again?”
Seeing Julian’s serious expression, the doctor’s face grew solemn as well, “Mr. Walker, do you feel there's something wrong with your body?"
“Yes,” Julian nodded.
'If nothing was wrong, why would I even be here? I clearly saw the Unown enter my body with my own f**ing eyes!'
“Mr. Walker, maybe you should consider seeing a psychiatrist,” the doctor suggested.
“…Psychiatrist?”
Julian was momentarily confused, but then he understood, and his expression darkened, “You think I’m crazy?”
“No, no! You might have somatic symptom disorder, which makes people constantly feel like something is wrong with their body, even when they’re perfectly healthy. Patients with this condition often visit hospitals repeatedly.”
“It wouldn’t hurt to get checked out,” the doctor explained.
From the doctor’s perspective, Julian’s results were too perfect—the healthiest he had ever seen. Yet Julian remained convinced he was ill.
The doctor could only conclude it was a psychological issue.
“No need.”
Julian glared at the doctor before leaving the hospital.
“I’ll just go to another hospital for a second opinion, the family hospital is no good, they are all quack doctors."
Julian muttered under his breath as he walked out of the hospital.
