Chapter 464: Metagross Vs Heracross
Although Julian was the youngest among the five, his battle record was solid and undeniable—especially since he had even defeated a national-level Rock-type Gym Leader, a Trainer at the peak of the Elite level.
“I’ll go first, you cowards.”
A pale-faced man stepped forward from the group of five. The other four looked frustrated but didn’t dare to argue.
Julian had already sent out his Pokémon.

“Meta~”
The silver-white Metagross hovered silently in the air.
The Walker family’s signature Pokémon, and also their trump card.
“Heracross!”
The challenger, Murphy, sent out his Pokémon.
Seeing a Bug-type Trainer, Julian was slightly surprised.
It wasn’t that he looked down on Bug-types—it was just that among the eighteen types, Bug Pokémon were one of the hardest to train, comparable to Dragon-types in terms of difficulty.
Due to natural limitations, most Bug Pokémon were often considered weak, and this perception was largely justified.
To raise a Beedrill to Elite-level required as many resources as training two or three Grass-, Water-, or Rock-type Pokémon.
If ten units of resources were used, Pokémon of other types might gain twenty levels—but a Bug-type would only gain ten, as its body simply couldn’t absorb too many resources at once.
Dragon-types had the opposite problem—while they could absorb all ten units of resources, their growth was just as slow, making them notorious for being late bloomers.
Bug- and Dragon-types were complete opposites.
One grew rapidly in the early stages but struggled later on, while the other was a late bloomer that required immense patience.
Among the eighteen types, Bug and Grass Pokémon were the most common choices for civilian Trainers—Bug-types grew fast, while Grass-types were easy to feed.
Among noble families, unless they were a lineage specializing in Bug-types, very few would choose them.
Of course, not all Bug Pokémon were weak. Some had high training value, with a select few standing out as particularly powerful.
Notable examples included Scizor, Heracross, and Volcarona.
However, Volcarona was incredibly rare, comparable to Togekiss in scarcity. While not a Legendary Pokémon, some regions even revered it as an incarnation of the sun.
So, most Bug-type Trainers would usually have a Scizor and a Heracross in their lineup.
Pokémon: Heracross (Bug/Fighting)

Egg Moves: Seismic Toss, Bug Buzz, Focus Blast, Bide
---
This was a very well-trained Heracross—and a bold one at that.
Looking at Heracross provocatively taunting Metagross, Julian came to this conclusion.
Most Heracross had timid personalities.
Even when they were stronger than their opponents, their natural disposition often made them hesitant in battle, preventing them from fighting at full strength.
For Heracross Trainers, timidity was the biggest headache.
“I didn’t expect Murphy to draw Julian as his opponent.”
“People say Julian has terrible luck... and I have to admit, they might have a point.”
Even Victor, who was usually cold, cracked a joke.
Julian: 'Is my reputation as an unlucky guy that widespread now?'
Among the twenty-five challengers, if they were ranked based on strength, Murphy would undoubtedly be number one.
That meant he had the best shot at defeating Julian and earning the spot to the Top-tier secret realm.
“That kid’s good, I’ll give him that—but he’s still got a long way to go before he can compare to my grandson,” John said, he then shot a glare at Victor and continued, “And my dear grandson is very lucky. He even found a Dratini on the roadside. So don't talk nonsense.”
Victor gave him a 'Do you take me for an idiot?' look.
Finding a Dratini just lying around? If that was possible, he might as well go searching for a free Beldum.
Hearing John's words, even Duke couldn't stand it anymore, and said angrily, “At your age, you’re still telling nonsense like this? Do you really think anyone with a brain would believe that?”
“Believe it or not, that’s what happened.”
John then muttered under his breath, "Anyway, that's what my dear grandson told me."
---
“I heard you were injured, but I won’t hold back,” Murphy said.
Everyone knew about the assassination attempt on Julian, and many were aware that he had suffered mental damage.
Not only that, but his psychic abilities had also been exposed.
Aura and Psychic powers—learning that Julian possessed both special abilities made many noble families green with envy.
“Three minutes.”
Julian held up three fingers.
Murphy was taken aback for a moment, not knowing what this meant, but then, as realization dawned, his expression darkened with anger.
Julian was saying that he would defeat him in just three minutes.
'Don't think you're amazing just because you've defeated a Peak Elite Trainer—I’ve defeated one too.'
Heracross was at the late stage of Elite, so overcoming a few levels to defeat a Peak Elite opponent wasn’t too difficult.
"Meta~"
The moment Julian raised three fingers, Metagross moved.
Since its Trainer had said three minutes, it figured it should put in some effort and end the battle in two minutes and leave the last minute for the opponent to come in turn with their defeat.
Faced with Metagross's Teleport and Meteor Mash combo, Murphy seemed to have been prepared in advance.
In fact, anyone who studied Julian’s battle style closely would notice that Metagross often opened its fights with this exact combination.
For those weaker than Metagross, this combo was practically a guaranteed K.O.
As the Meteor Mash came crashing down, Heracross met the attack head-on with its long, powerful horn.
This horn was Heracross’s greatest weapon—the hardest part of its body—and it possessed immense strength.
It could easily lift objects a hundred times its own weight and send them flying high into the air.
Meteor Mash streaked through the air in a dazzling rainbow arc.
Meanwhile, the Horn Attack glowed with a bright white light.
When the two moves collided, a deafening explosion echoed through the battlefield, sending shockwaves rippling outward like a hurricane.
Murphy’s calm expression suddenly stiffened.
Because he saw Heracross get sent flying by Metagross.
The mighty Heracross, known for its incredible strength, had actually lost in a pure test of power.
